Chapter 2616
Night of Destiny
âI think Imogen has something to do with the kidnapping,â said Shirley curtly.
Zacharias looked up in shock. âDoes she have something to do with it?â
Shirley nodded. âI asked Roy to give me the security footage, and thereâs footage of me and Imogen
going shopping. My gut tells me that Imogen has something to do with the kidnapping.â
âWhy would she do this?â Zacharias was frowning, taking this seriously.
âPerhaps it has something to do with money. Imogenâs family isnât all that rich, but sheâs an ambitious
lady,â said Shirley. She was reminded of when Imogen told her that she wanted to gain Zachariasâ
attention. She told Shirley that sheâd fallen in love with Zacharias at first sight, and Imogen even hinted
to Shirley that she wanted to woo Zacharias. Thatâs proof of her ambition.
âIf she is involved, then we have to deal with her!â Zacharias cursed himself. He had a meeting that
day, and Imogen requested to stay back with Shirley. He gave her that permission, leaving a snake by
Shirleyâs side. âIâm sorry. This is my fault, too. I shouldnât have let her go shopping with you.â
Shirley wrapped her arms around Zachariasâ neck and kissed his forehead. âItâs not your fault. If I
hadnât gone through this whole ordeal myself, Iâd never have realized Imogen is a traitor.â
Zacharias held her in his arms. âI wonât let anyone I donât trust stay with you ever again.â
Shirley should be glad she went through this, or she wouldâve never seen Imogenâs true colors. Simply
put, she might even end up in a worse state after this. âWeâre keeping this a secret for now. After we go
back, weâll come up with a plan,â said Shirley.
âI can keep her under surveillance right now.â
âNo, not for now. Iâm trying to set her up so that sheâll expose herself,â said Shirley.
âWeâll go with your plan, then.â Zacharias patted Shirleyâs head, feeling for her. It must suck to be
betrayed by a friend.
Shirley was upset. She lay in Zachariasâ embrace and rested her head on his shoulder. Zacharias held
her, kissing her hair. âItâs alright. Iâll be with you forever.â
That soothed Shirleyâs heart, and she looked at him with determination. âReally? Forever?â
âForever,â said Zacharias honestly.
Shirleyâs heart was filled with warmth. She smiled and brightened up like a blooming flower again.
Captivated, Zacharias held the back of Shirleyâs head and kissed her.
Shirley had her arms wrapped around Zachariasâ neck, kissing him back as well. Whenever she was
with him, she could forget all the bad times.
Meanwhile, Imogen was in her room, unable to sleep. She kept thinking about the whole case. If she
couldnât confirm that Shirley didnât suspect her at all, she couldnât rest easy. What did the kidnappers
tell her? Nonetheless, she had confidence they wouldnât betray her.
The next morning, after Shirley woke up, Imogen asked her out to have coffee at the hotelâs coffee
shop. Shirley agreed to it like she usually would. Concerned, Imogen asked, âYou said you bumped
your head. Are you better now?â
Shirley smiled. âYeah. My head didnât hurt this morning, and I feel better now.â
âDo you remember everything the kidnappers said?â
âYeah,â said Shirley, nonchalant.
âWhat did they tell you?â Imogen asked, nervous. She thought she acted natural enough, but Shirley
saw through her facade. It was all things that Imogen let slip.
âThey said they couldnât split the money because there was another kidnapper who didnât come. I think
they had an accomplice. Not all of them died, it seems.â Shirley guessed with a frown.
