eight

The next day I was home from school, and I sat on my bed in the living room. Trying to do some assignments and just keep my mind occupied.

I was deep in thought when my phone vibrated, I picked it up and looked at the screen.  There was a message from an unsaved number.  That was never a good sign.  I opened it and saw the text ..  even more suspicious.

"Look outside, " it had written on it. I placed my phone down and walked towards the window. Now I debate whether or not I should look outside due to the situations I had been through but eventually I decided to just peek.  So carefully I reached out and moved the curtains a bit. That's when I saw Rei,

"What are you doing?"  I asked as I opened the window and looked around.

"I came to see if you were okay after yesterday."  He shouted.  My face heated up slightly.

"I'm alright..  I guess."  I responded. He seemed so nice now,  I was surprised he knew where I lived. But then again,  Darcy would have told him.

"That's good,  I uh -can I come inside?"  Rei asked.  I looked around once more. I had to make sure no on odd was around the area before I let him in.

"Sure." I replied, "Wait there."  I closed the window and headed downstairs to where my bodyguard was sitting.

"I know he's outside."  Ms Flynn said, "Don't let him in."

"Why? He's just Rei."  I said as I was about to go towards the door.

"I said no."  Ms Flynn said. "You know what happened yesterday, do you want a repeat of that today? We both barely know Rei so I think we shouldn't let him in."

"But.."  I looked back at the door, "Can I at least talk to him a bit?"

The older woman stood up from her seat and leaned against the wall.

"Fine, but I'm right here." She stated.

Why was she becoming so suspicious of everyone?  He's just a guy my age - nothing is wrong with him right?

Bang! Bang!

There was a loud banging on the door.  I glanced at MS Flynn and then back at the door.

"Don't answer it."  She said as she ran ahead of me and stood by the door. "Who is it?"  She asked.

Bang!

This time the noise was ear-splitting.  I gasped and stayed away from the door.  But the older woman didn't hesitate.  She took out her gun and unlocked the door before pulling it open.  Almost immediately someone fell inside. She caught them in time.

It was Rei.

He had blood spilling from his limp body.  His hands gripped her shoulders as he slurred.

"Help.. Me.."  Those were the last words he said before he collapsed onto the floor. It all happened so quickly that I didn't even realise it was me who had screamed.  My hands shook as I ran to the phone and dialled the police.

"Don't look."  Ms Flynn shouted. I turned away and gripped the phone tighter.

Someone killed him.  Someone killed Rei right on my doorstep.  My heart raced and chills raced through my body.  I could barely form words as the person on the other end asked for information.

How could this happen? What was going on?
