☾ 2: Questions ☾

Azure

I opened my eyes to find myself outside. My head was still pounding but not as bad thankfully. Getting up I realized I still seemed like I was kneeling. I looked down in confusion and saw white paws.

Freaking out I jumped back.

"What the hell?!" I tried to say but all I heard was a bark.

I looked around to see if maybe I just landed on a dog or something but there was no living thing in sight. I closed my eyes.

Do I dare look down again? Do I dare look... No way! I must be dreaming. There is no possible way I'm a dog!

I needed to find a mirror. I looked around and saw a puddle in the near distance. I head over to it and look down.

Well, I'm not a dog... That much is obvious. Instead, I'm a wolf.

This is insane! Sporting white fur with my normal colored blue eyes... Again... This couldn't be possible, could it? Wolves don't even have blue eyes naturally. Only the mixed breeds would, but I seem way too large to be any mixture of some common house dog.

Wait what am I even thinking?! I can't be an animal! I was a human before I passed out!

I take a deep breath. I just need to wake myself up from this nightmare. Without a second thought, I dunked my head into the puddle.

I sneezed a few times from the water going up my nose so quickly. I wiped my face with my paw and sat down.

Well, now what? Am I really a wolf? Is this how I have to live out the rest of my life? Maybe that's what James was trying to do. But why? Even if it worked, which apparently it did, what's the point in turning people into animals if they can't turn back... or maybe I can? But how?

This is all too confusing and absurd... Wait. What happened to James? I quickly darted for the laboratory. Taking note of how quickly I was able to run this way.

I hopped in through one of the windows and saw that the liquids were all soaked up, the place was still trashed but things were moved... someone was here.

The door flew open which startled me. I quickly noticed it was James. I never once thought I'd be so happy to see him.

"James are you okay? What happened to this place? More importantly what the hell happened to me?!" I questioned but quickly realized he couldn't understand me.

He seemed startled at the sudden barking.

"Cassy? Is... is that you?" He held out a hand as if to block me in case I attacked him.

I barked again.

"Yes, it's me you idiot."

I sat down and wagged my tail hoping he would make the connection that I was agreeing.

"Oh, Cassy thank god! I was looking all over for you!" He sat down in relief.

"So I guess you can see I've failed a bit, huh?" He let out an exasperated sigh.

"Wait right here I'll be back." He said as quickly as he left. James soon returned and sat in front of me.

"Okay, listen. I'm going to ask you some questions and you just bark once for a yes and twice as a no okay?"

I barked once.

"Alright, do you see in color?" I never really noticed but everything was still in color for me maybe it was the case for other dogs and animals as well.

I barked again.

He wrote stuff down on some paper.

"Are you feeling okay?"

After another bark, he continued his writing.

"Any... Um... Cravings?"

I grew confused. Perhaps he was wondering if I craved meat as a natural carnivore would.

Barking twice he proceeded to ask a few questions and then took out some toy blocks with letters on them.

"Listen, I want to answer your questions and hear some things about your experience but I know you can't talk right now so this will have to do. There is one thing I can tell you though you should be able to transition from human to wolf. Well, in theory, it seems possible anyway."

I grabbed the blocks with my mouth and spelled out 'how'.

He scratched the back of his head in thought.

"That you'll have to figure out yourself. Sorry, but I have no idea." His phone began to ring.

"I'll be right back." He left and shut the door behind him yet again. Before I wouldn't be able to hear him when he would leave the room unless he yelled. Now that I'm a wolf I quickly realized I could hear everything he was saying even as he started whispering.

I wouldn't normally eavesdrop but I couldn't help myself.

"Yes, I found her... Yes, something finally happened we need to hurry before..." He is obviously talking about me.

"You can't do that. That's too dangerous! You can kill her! No, I don't know what exact time it happened. I understand... I will bring her over to you tomorrow. However, if I end up having to face his wrath have no doubt that I will drag you along with me!"

Shit, what are they going to do to me? I have to get out of here. As soon as I stand up the door opened.

"Hey, sorry about-." I interrupt him with a low growl.

"Hey, now! Calm down. What twisted your fur?" I saw him slowly reach for something behind his back.

Taking no chances I ran for the window just quick enough to hear a shot. A tranquilizer dart landed just next to me.

"Fuck! Wait! Cassy, don't go! We could talk! Don't do something you'll regret! He'll kill me if he knows I went behind his back!"

I didn't bother to wait and continued to run as fast as my new wolf legs could take me.
