"Hey, Laine have you seen Mason?" I asked as I shut my locker.
"No, I haven't. Why?"
"He wasn't in first period. I guess he decided not to come?" I said unsure.
"Maybe. He's never really seemed fond of school so that's most likely the case. Are you ready to go to math?" She asked with a smile.
"Yeah, let's go."
I thought as we walked.
"You know... I've been complaining about how I didn't get to go to high school, but now that I'm here... it sucks." I laughed.
"It's not that bad," Laine said as she playfully pushed me.
"Well, that's only because..." I paused.
I had sensed something. It wasn't food and it wasn't Mason. It was something I'd never smelled before.
"Hey, are you okay?" Laine questioned, snapping me out of my trance.
"Um, yeah. How about you go on ahead? I'll catch up in a bit."
"You're going to be late." Laine sang teasingly.
"Tell the teacher I had to use the restroom?" I smiled hopefully.
Laine rolled her eyes. "Anything for you." She teased once more.
The bell rang as Laine ran off to class. I followed the scent curiously. When I turned the corner I ended up running into someone.
"I'm sorry," I said quickly.
I looked up at the person in front of me. She was what I had been smelling but how? Why?
"It's alright." She smirked.
I suddenly grew nervous under her intimidating gaze.
"A-are you new? I-I don't think I've seen you around before." I asked.
"Of course, you haven't." She smiled as she stepped closer.
"I guess you could say I'm new, but I won't be here long." She held out her hand to me.
"I'm Katherine. It's nice to meet you." She seemed different well aside from the weird scent I got from her.
I cautiously took a small step back as I met her hand. "I'm Cassy."
"Oh, I know." She smirked once more. "You should get to class. I'll be seeing you again soon enough."
She began walking away before I could even ask how she knew my name or what she meant. I had gone to class and sat by Laine still dumbfounded by the situation.
She has long curly brown hair and hazel eyes. I didn't fail to notice her dimples. I still couldn't understand why I was able to sniff her out. She didn't have that smell werewolves did nor humans. She clearly knew me, or at least my name, which added to my confusion.
I heard the classroom door open and I looked up wondering if it'd be her. Instead, I was met with Heather's sharp glare directed at me.
"She's kind of been ignoring me lately," Laine whispered to me.
Heather walked over and sat next to me.
"Hey... is everything alright?" I asked trying to have a friendly conversation.
She looked up at me. Her eyes were still sharp with... Anger?
"My dad got attacked by some wolf the other day."
"Oh... I'm sorry to hear that. Is he alright?"
It couldn't be... could it?
"He'll be fine but his hand was badly injured."
My eyes widened.
"Did they catch the wolf?" I asked.
"No. My dad wasn't as prepared as he should have been. The white wolf got away." She said I could almost hear the anger in her voice.
I couldn't say anything in response. I excused myself and went to the restroom. It was all too much for me to handle. Had I not had that smallest amount of control I could have killed her dad. Not only that but for some reason, the way she looked at me was as if she knew it was me that had hurt him. I was starting to panic
"Funny meeting you here. I guess soon was a lot sooner than either of us thought." I looked over in surprise to see Katherine by the door.
"I have a few things to tell you." She said as she walked up to me.
"Listen-" I started.
"Now's not a good time. Blah blah blah. I don't care this is important." She interrupted.
"What is it?"
"Not here. Let's go elsewhere."
"And where exactly is that?" I asked with a raised brow.
If she thinks I'm just going to blindly follow her she's crazy. I don't even know her.
"On a date back to my place." She winked.
I was caught off guard by her forwardness it made my heart thump.
"I-I have classes," I said nervously.
She raised a brow and smirked. "As if you've never ditched."
Before I could reply she grabbed my hand and dragged me away. I was too confused to resist and before I knew it I was in the forest.
"So, tell me little wolf..." She started.
"Wolf?" I questioned quickly.
"Oh please." She stopped walking to stare at me.
"I'm not that stupid and it's obvious you know what I am as well." She said as she leaned against a tree.
"Actually, I don't... I mean I sniffed you out but- Wait. How do you know what I am?"
She shrugged. "I know of others like you... but you really don't know what about your- About what I am?"
I noticed her stutter but didn't comment. I just shook my head in response.
"Man. I suppose if I really wanted to I could..." She walked behind me brushing her fingers through my hair as she passed. "Have some fun with you."
"Cassy!" Mason yelled.
"Get away from her!" He told Katherine as he pushed me behind him.
"Oh come on Mason. You know I can't do that." She smirked unfazed by his aggression.
"Is that why you came back?" Mason asked.
"Yes. The first time I had no luck in finding what I needed."
"Mason who or better yet what is she?" I asked.
"She's a vampire." Mason spat.
As I went to turn my gaze back to her she was gone. Looking back to Mason he was suddenly lifted off the ground by Katherine. She was holding him up by his throat.
"Mason you ruined my fun. I wanted it to at least last the day." She pouted as she dropped him leaving him gasping for air.
She smiled in satisfaction at the scene.
"Cassy, I think it's about time we leave."
"We?" I questioned as I rushed to help Mason.
Katherine rolled her eyes. "Yes, we. As in me and you and not that liar. Do you think the two of you are friends? He's been lying to you ever since you two met. Isn't that right Mason? Too afraid to tell the truth."
I looked over at Mason for confirmation. He looked down in shame.
"I-I had to." He struggled to say.
"Wait. What?" I question as I step away from him. "What the hell did you lie about?!" I yelled.
"Everything," Katherine said.
"Not everything!" Mason shouted.
"Cassy, if you come with me I would be more than happy to tell you the truth. I'll answer any and all questions without hesitation about your family and who you really are." Katherine said as she held out her hand to me.
Did Mason lie about my family? Myself? Why? I finally let someone into my life for them to lie to me?! He didn't even try to deny it either.
"Don't Cassy. Please." Mason said as he struggled to stand.
At this point, I didn't even care anymore. I didn't care if Katherine was lying to me as well, or if she was a threat to me. I just didn't want to be here with Mason.
I grabbed Katherine's hand and before I knew it I was in a house.
"Where....?"
"Welcome to my temporary home!" She said with a smirk.
"So... Are you going to tell me everything?" I asked bringing up the reason why I was here.
"Of course. Let's start from the beginning." She smiled as she sat down on the couch.
I now realized that she had on the shortest shorts I have ever seen.
"Like what you see?" She purred, laughing when my face became red.
"Anyway. Let's get this over with." She continued.
Hopefully, I will finally get the truth and some real answers.
