Chapter 11-First Aid

Roweena

Roe was startled to see Savage, Parker, and Mr. Accent standing in the doorway. Savage was the first to speak with a scowl on his face. "Boudreau here says that you were creating quite a commotion down here. What do you want now?"

"I need medical supplies. They're not conscious yet, and I'm afraid it's because there are still bullets inside them, or whatever it was you shot them with." Calm down Roe, being ugly to him isn't the way to get what you need. Be nice, be calm, act human.

"What kind of medical supplies?" Savage snapped at her.

Roe looked at the floor, trying to act submissive. "I need something to cut their shirts off with so I can see the wounds. I also need to be able to get the bullets out, if they're still in them. It would be nice to know exactly what you shot them with, so I know what I'm looking for."

"Why the hell should we trust you with a sharp object?"

"You don't have to. If you want, you can come do it."

"I'm not doing anything to help those monsters. If you want it done, do it yourself."

"That's what I'm trying to do. That's why I asked for those supplies." Roe said getting exasperated.

"I really don't care what happens to them. You're not getting anything from us."

"Fine." Roe tried a different tactic. "All I know is that Mr. Marsden wanted me to keep them alive and get them to do what he wants them to do. I've asked for supplies. I've asked for help. I can't do what he wants if they die from the injuries that you gave them. I will not take responsibility for what happens, I've done my part." She shrugged and started to turn away from the door.

Up until this point, Parker had stayed silent. "Sorry Savage, but I'll have to check with Major Marsden. I know he wants them alive, and if she thinks they'll die without treatment, he may want to allow her to do it." He shook his head. "I can't not ask him, even if his answer's the same as yours."

Savage looked at Parker, shock evident on his face. "What?!" He exclaimed angrily.

He looks like he's about to attack Parker. Roe thought as she turned back toward the door. This may turn out better than I had hoped. I can see that these two don't see eye to eye about what's going on here. Savage is, well savage, and Parker seems to want to follow this Marsden guy. We may can use their discord to our advantage in getting out of here.

At that moment Mr. Accent, or Boudreau as Savaged called him, interrupted the staring contest going on between Savage and Parker. "Savage, ya know tha' Parker's right about this one. The Major'd wanna know before his test subjects bit the dust. Especially if'n there's a way ta save 'em."

The longer Boudreau talks, the thicker his accent gets. Or, maybe it's because he's upset? Hmm, I'll have to keep an eye, no an ear on that. Roe laughed at her joke in her head.

"Damn it Boudreau." Savage sighed. "I hate it when you're right."

"I just don' wanna be blamed if'n they die." Boudreau smiled an easy going smile at the two men.

Parker gave a wry half grin at them. "I'll go ask the Major what he wants us to do. Then it's his choice, and none of us get in trouble."

"Tha's what I was a thinkin'." Boudreau nodded at him.

Savage turned to Roe and snarled "You stay right here. Make a list of supplies you want. Hopefully, you won't get them." He smiled an evil smile at her, and slammed the door in her face.

Well, that was nice. He sure has a bad attitude. I really hope Marsden sees that I can't do anything unless the guys get well. I hope there's not a major problem with them. I'd still love to know exactly what they shot them with. I wonder if I can do a healing spell or something on them and find out if there are still bullets in them.

Roe walked into Shane's room and over to him. Hmm, what spell do I know that might show me what doesn't belong. She looked over her shoulder toward the door. I don't dare get my grimoire out when they could be back any minute. Maybe I can do a search for metal. It's almost impossible that Shane has metal inside his body that's supposed to be there. Werewolves heal way too fast to need pins or screws or anything medical like that.

Roe closed her eyes and concentrated, saying the spell as quietly as she could. All of the metal objects in the room started slightly glowing. She looked around the room at all the glowing metal things. Well, that worked better than I expected. Now to see if I can actually see if there's something inside Shane that's glowing.

Roe got extremely close to Shane, but couldn't see anything glowing. I wonder if his shirt is effecting my ability to see, or if the spell just didn't work like I thought it would. She raised Shane's shirt up as far as she could. Hmm, still nothing. Would the bullet be closer to the back of him than the front? That would make sense.

She moved around to Shane's right side, lifted the back of his shirt as much as she could, and peered between him and the wall trying to see his back. The more she looked at his back, the more she could see a slight glow coming from under the skin on the left side of his back. Hey, maybe this is actually working. I need a better view.

Roe quickly walked around to his other side and lifted his shirt up past where she'd seen the glowing. It's much more evident from this side. It looks like it's just under the skin. If I touch it, will I be able to feel it? She ran her hand across the glowing part of Shane's back. Yep, I can feel a lump there. At least now I know how to explain me being able to find the bullet to Marsden's men. Roe released the spell then walked back to the hallway door, pressed her ear to the door and tried to hear if anyone was coming down the hall.

I don't hear anything, but I'm not sure how well I can hear through this door. I haven't heard much of anything through it, except for Boudreau yelling and walking away earlier. But at that time, I was really listening and expecting what I heard. I hope no one is coming right now. I need time to cast the spell on Adrian, though I'm not sure how well it'll work on him, since I'm not sure what they shot him with. I'm just going to assume they were wooden bullets, since they used silver on Shane.

Roe hurried into Adrian's room and cast the same spell in there that she had in Shane's room, except looking for wood instead of silver. More of the room glowed this time than in Shane's room. Apparently there's a lot of wooden things in here. Are the bullets in him going to be toward his back, like Shane's were? Let's see if they are, since I'm not seeing anything glowing on his front. Roe moved around to his side as far as she could and lifted up his jacket and shirt. Upon seeing a faint glow coming from his lower back she thought, There's one. She ran her hand across the glowing spot on his back, and like before, she could feel a small lump where the bullet was. Is this the only one, or are there are more still in him? I guess I'll have to wait and see since I can't see enough of him to be able to tell.

Just then Roe heard something rattling at the hallway door. She dropped the spell and quickly walked back into her room in time to see Parker, Savage and Boudreau coming through the door. Parker looked concerned, Savage looked extremely mad, and Boudreau didn't seem to be showing any emotion.

"Are they still unconscious?" Parker asked her. "Do you still need supplies?"

"They're just like they were, so yes I still need supplies."

"Okay, what do you need?"

"I need scissors or a knife to cut their shirts off, so I can see how many bullet holes they have. I also need a knife so I can cut out the bullets if they're still in them. Other than that, a basic first aid kit should suffice; gauze, tape, bandages." She shrugged. "You know, that kind of stuff."

"Why should we trust you with a knife?" Savage ground out, looking even more mad than he had when he came in the door.

"As I said before, you're welcome to do this yourself. Really and truly, I'd prefer if you'd just take over for me, and let me go home. I don't want to be here, or do any of this." I hope I sound human and exasperated. I don't actually want to leave unless I can take the guys with me.

"We've got to do something." Parker argued. "The Major wants us to do whatever we have to in order to keep them alive. We don't have much choice."

Parker's argument just made Savage madder. "They're prisoners! We shouldn't be catering to their every whim!"

"Saving their lives isn't a whim!" Roe exclaimed. Who does he think he is? Either of the guys is worth a hundred of this savage Savage. What does he have against supernaturals?

"We can't just let them die. The Major would have our heads!" Parker exclaimed before Savage had a chance to respond to what Roe had said. "If you want to argue with him about it, be my guest, but I for one am doing what he said to do."

Savage looked like he was going to attack Parker or Roe at any minute, then Boudreau distracted him again by saying "I know some first aid, I c'n go collect what she's needin'."

Savage looked at him. "No, we'll all go."

"What? Do ye not trust me?" Boudreau asked, sounding offended.

"It's not you I don't trust. It's her."

"She's human." Parker stated, confused. "I understand not trusting her, since she was with them, but what can she do?"

"I don't know, there's just something about her that I don't trust." Savage said, looking at Roe with narrowed eyes.

"Are you sure that it's not just that she was with a vampire and a werewolf in a hotel room?" Parker asked suspiciously.

"It's not that." Savage said defensively. "There's just something about her that I don't trust."

"What could I have ever done to you?" Roe demanded. "I have more reason to not trust you, than you have to not trust me."

"What? That's stupid." Savage replied, sounding affronted.

"I haven't done anything to you. But you on the other hand, have basically kidnapped me, shot me with a tranquilizer dart, then locked me in here! There's no way I trust you at all."

Savage started for her "You little-"

"Enough!" Parker practically yelled. "We need to go get the supplies she needs because that's what Major Marsden said to do. He gave her a job, Savage. She needs to be able to do it, so you can't hurt her."

Savage glared at Parker. "What's so important about her?"

"I'm not sure." Parker replied. "The Major said something about her being in the hotel room with them, so they might trust her, and do what he wants them to do. At the very least, they like her." He shrugged. "If they didn't, they wouldn't have had her with them."

"I guess." Savage looked at Roe. "For now." He stormed out of the room.

Parker and Boudreau looked at each other, then back at Roe. "We'll go get the supplies you need." Parker sighed. "And try to come back without Savage."

"Yea," Boudreau looked at Parker and nodded. "Tha' sounds like a good idea."

Parker and Boudreau walked out of the room, and locked the door behind them.

Well, that was interesting. I wonder if Savage has issues with everyone around here. He seems to have a problem with me and Parker to some extent, but seems to listen to Boudreau. However, he acts like he isn't really interested in what Major Marsden wants to do. Hmm, there may be a way to get rid of Savage, if I can get Marsden to think he's becoming a problem for him.
