Chapter 19
How to Run Away from Obsessed Men
Despite the negative reactions from the people, Lindsey remained unfazed.
Raysis glanced at her and then sat beside her.
âEveryone seems to be full of energy this morning. I guess your assigned tasks must be quite light.â
Those who had been gossiping about Lindsey fell silent under Raysisâs gaze. Their faces turned pale.
Raysis looked at them with a mischievous smile.
âHe must be truly crazy.â
Lindsey shook her head as she looked at Raysis. He had been saying strange things earlier, and now it was clear his mind was not right.
He was smiling while exuding a menacing aura towards people.
âWhy is he emitting killing intent unnecessarily?â
A madman can be spotted anywhere. Lindsey really hated the people here.
And among them, the ones she particularly hated were gathered in this place.
It was a situation where her mood couldnât possibly improve.
At that moment, the doors to the banquet hall opened, and Crain entered. The family members looked at Crain with expectant eyes.
âTheyâre probably waiting for him to scold me. Thatâs what he usually does.â
Crain liked to reprimand Lindsey publicly when she made mistakes.
People expected Crain to harshly scold Lindsey, who was sitting at the head table. But Lindsey was confident.@@novelbin@@
âI know that man better than anyone else.â
The more you suffer, the better you understand someone. So, Lindsey knew what Crain was going to do without even watching.
Crain approached Lindsey. His seat was near hers, so he had no choice. People watched him silently.
They were probably expecting him to say something to Lindsey Kesion.
To see Lindsey, with her dirty blood, get scolded for sitting in such a seat. But Crain completely betrayed their expectations.
Crain looked at Lindsey with a broad smile.
âWelcome back, Lindsey!â
Lindsey smiled back at him.
Truly⦠he was a simple man to the point of being creepy.
A man who acted purely based on the logic of power. He could recognize someone with dirty blood as his daughter if they were useful to him.
With Crainâs reaction, the people of the Marquis of Kesion household understood immediately.
Lindsey Kesionâ¦
The dirty blood they despised had truly manifested divine power.
She really healed Michellan? Their gazes shifted in an instant. Lindsey nonchalantly ignored their looks.
It must be surprising.
No one had any expectations of her. No one expected her to manifest divine power after becoming an adult.
And to think she healed Michellan as soon as she became a priest? Crain, who had been laughing heartily at Lindsey, suddenly had his face stiffen.
He turned his gaze to one side of the meeting room. Kenyan Radian was there.
âHe didnât expect him to come.â
Lindsey could clearly see what Crain was thinking. In fact, the talk about Lindseyâs annulment had come from the Duke of Radianâs side first.
They wanted to break off the engagement because Lindsey Kesion hadnât awakened her divine power.
But an annulment between nobles was not that simple.
âThere are formalities to follow.â
So, as a courtesy, they must have sent a message to attend the meeting.
If he came, he came. If he didnât, Crain could handle the matter as he wished. But Kenyan attended the meeting.
This was unexpected for Lindsey as well. The annulment between Lindsey and Azhet was already a planned step.
Crain was just putting on a show to follow proper procedures.
The Radian family had requested the annulment before Lindsey had manifested her divine power, so they had no other option now.
âYoung Master Kenyan, itâs been a while.â
At Crainâs words, Kenyan gave a cold smile.
âYes, it has been a while.â
âYou always disliked waiting and long speeches.â
Kenyan didnât deny it. He met Crainâs gaze with cold eyes.
âLetâs get straight to the point. We wish to proceed with the annulment.â
ââ¦â¦â
âThere should be no objections since the Radian family initiated this.â
Kenyan and Crainâs gazes clashed in the air. It was like lightning striking. Lindsey inwardly clicked her tongue at their pointless power struggle.
âI have no objections, but⦠thereâs something I need to ask first.â
âWhat is it?â
âDoes Lady Lindsey agree to this annulment?â
âDoes Lindsey agree to the annulment?â
Crain looked at Kenyan with a puzzled expression. He couldnât understand why he was asking about Lindseyâs opinion.
Ignoring Crainâs gaze, Kenyan stared intently at Lindsey.
In fact, since entering the meeting room, he hadnât taken his eyes off her.
His gaze clearly conveyed, âDo you dare to annul the engagement with Azhet?â.
Since he asked, she had to answer. Lindseyâs eyes curved into a rare, genuine smile.
It was a smile so captivating that everyone in the meeting room held their breath.
âYes, I agree. I want to annul the engagement as soon as possible.â
ââ¦â¦â
âIt seems we both think alike. Sir Azhet must also want to annul the engagement with me.â
Crain nodded in satisfaction at Lindseyâs answer.
âExactly. Thatâs why the Radian family sent the annulment papers first.â
Crain raised the annulment papers in front of him.
At that moment, Kenyan looked as if he had been struck. He stared wide-eyed at Lindsey, unable to believe she had declared the annulment so officially.
Stunned, Kenyan remained silent.
The meeting room was so quiet that even a breath could be heard. Crain intended to conclude the meeting quickly.
He wanted to finalize the annulment without any objections from the Radian family.
Had Kenyan not spoken up, it would have ended that way.
âThe annulment canât proceed.â
Crainâs face twisted in anger.
âWhat do you mean it canât proceed? What nonsense is this?â
âLindsey Kesion has never fulfilled her duties as a fiancée.â
ââ¦â¦â
âAll she did at the Radian household was indulge in luxury and abuse the servants.â
Crainâs face turned red. He thought it absurd to make an issue out of a few trivial servants being mistreated.
âAnd thatâs why weâre annulling the engagement.â
âNo. We need to be compensated.â
Lindsey looked at Kenyan in disbelief.
âSend Lindsey Kesion on a mission with me. You know that the Radian family is undertaking a northern subjugation, right?â
ââ¦â¦â
âWe were already short of a saintess, so this works out well.â
Crain turned to Lindsey. She gave a slight nod.
Lindseyâs eyes were filled with fury as she looked at Kenyan.
âYouâre really going to make my life miserable until the end, huh?â
The annulment would proceed as planned. Kenyanâs actions were solely to torment her.
âDoes he think Iâll cry in fear?â
Lindsey was resolved to join the subjugation. Kenyan might be expecting her to tremble in fear at the sight of monsters.
âThings wonât go the way you want.â
Kenyan and Lindseyâs eyes met. It was as if a fire was blazing in his eyes.
It was as if he felt betrayed by her.
âWhy you?â
Lindsey smirked at him. Her words about breaking off the engagement with Azhet seemed to have provoked Kenyan.
She didnât know why he was acting this way.
And she didnât want to know.
Lindsey just wanted to sever this tiresome relationship.
ââ â
After the meeting ended, Lindsey planned to return to her room immediately.
Today had been exhausting. She just wanted to go back to her room and sleep all day.
âI wish I could wake up back in Korea.â
But knowing it was impossible, Lindsey stopped imagining it.
Imagining it only made her feel miserable. The fact that there was no one here who loved herâ¦
Even if there was, it would be a false affectionâ¦
Itâs fine.
I wonât love anyone either, she thought.
At that moment, someone roughly grabbed her wrist. Lindsey turned her gaze and sighed.
Doesnât this guy ever go home?
Kenyan, who she thought had returned to the Radian family right after the meeting, was there. He was holding her wrist.
âYou⦠what are you up to?â
âWhat?â
âAre you really going to break off the engagement with my brother?â
âDo you think Iâd fake it?â
Kenyanâs face was filled with shock.
Was it really so shocking to him that she was breaking off the engagement with Azhet?
Lindsey tried to shake off Kenyanâs hand to get away from him. But she couldnât overpower Kenyan, a transcendent.
âLet go of me!â
At that moment, Kenyan inexplicably let go of her hand.
Lindsey quickly turned away. Without any hesitation, she started to walk away. Watching her retreating figure, Kenyan felt a sense of unease. The thought that he shouldnât let her go consumed him.
Kenyan reached out for Lindsey. But someone grabbed his arm firmly, stopping him.
