Chapter 19
Ex-Husband Turned Boss
I arrived at work, exactly when the clock struck 7. Since the day I had a run-in with Tatiana, I've been receiving weird looks from my fellow workmates. Some seemed curious and some where condescending looks.
The most irritating thing was, the people didn't even know me yet they were already judging me.
I rode the elevator all the way to the fortieth floor, alone.
Quite a number of people were bustling about, a clear sign that Bryce wasn't yet in.
I treaded to my desk and took a seat, immediately immersing myself in my work.
A few minutes later, everything became very quiet. Bryce surely was here now.
"You didn't wear slacks?" Boomed a deep, velvety voice.
I didn't bother to look up from what I was doing. "Good morning to you too, sir. You have a hectic schedule awaiting you." I ignored his question, handing him some paper work. "These need your signature."
He grabbed the papers, brushing my hand in the process. The skin he had touched began to tingle.
"You're in a professional mode today, aren't you?" He teased, still looking at me with his hypnotic grey eyes.
I finally looked up at him, making sure to bat my eyelashes seductively at him. "Would you like some coffee sir?" I purred.
He smirked. "Make it hot." He pronounced huskily, entering his office.
I stood up to get him his coffee. I made it with caution, in order to avoid humiliation like last time.
Back at the fortieth floor, I didn't bother to knock when I entered his room. When I saw what was happening in there, I dropped the mug of piping hot coffee.
Tatiana was sitting on his lap, jamming her tongue down Bryce's throat. He had his hands secured onto her exposed thighs.
I wasn't expecting to see that at all.
They stopped what they were doing when the shattering of the cup echoed throughout the office.
Nobody said anything.
Bryce pushed Tatiana off his lap, attempting to adjust his neck tie. He didn't make eye contact with me.
Tatiana, on the other hand, was stroking her smeared lips, shooting me a smug facial expression. She didn't even bother to pull down her skimpy pink dress that had ridden all the way up to the top of her thighs.
"Get out," Bryce barked at Tatiana, diverting his attention to his computer screen.
She pouted, but listened anyway. She finally pulled down her 'fabric' (because it was way too short to be a dress), grabbed her purse and sauntered out. She also made sure to bump into me on the way out.
How mature.
Once the door clicked shut, my initial shock turned into anger. "Really, Bryce? At the office?" I asked in disbelief.
He looked up at me, blank faced. "It's my office, isn't it. Plus, I found her in here waiting for me."
How had she gotten in without anyone noticing?
"Why didn't you chase her out as soon as you saw her? Gosh, are you always that horny?"
"Why do you care what I do? My love life is none of your business." He snarled, still penetrating me with his icy grey orbs.
I scoffed very audibly. "That's rich, coming from you. Didn't you prevent my date with Logan the other day?"
He rolled his eyes, turning to face the window behind him. "That was different. Logan is a dirty son of a bitch."
So are you, I wanted to shout but refrained from doing so. "So you were going to screw her?" I found myself asking.
He didn't reply for a couple of seconds. "If you hadn't come in and interrupted, probably."
His words cut me deeply. Hot tears threatened to spill out of my eyes. I took that as a cue to leave. I made sure to give the door a loud bang behind me.
Through blurry eyes, I semi ran to the bathroom and locked myself in a stall. The flood gates flew open and the tears viciously trickled down my cheeks.
How could I have been so stupid to think he still loved me. I mean, clearly he did not if what had just transpired meant anything.
I felt pathetic, jealous, weak and angry all at once. I had never been so vulnerable in my life.
I swiped a stray tear with the back of my hand. "He will pay for all the heartache he has caused me."
Third Person's P.O.V
As soon as Aubrey angrily stalked out of the office, Bryce released a breath he didn't even know he was holding.
What had just happened was not his doing. He had not expected Tatiana to be in his office, waiting for him.
But he had been extremely weak, failing miserably to resist her advances.
Maybe if he had not been so sex starved, he would have avoided all that had transpired.
To an extent, he believed he had in truth imagined Tatiana to be Aubrey.
"Fuck," he hissed, swerving his chair back round to face his desk.
He couldn't get Aubrey's pained expression out of his mind.
I screwed up, big time, he thought angrily to himself.
But wasn't that what he had wanted, to push Aubrey away? Not to lead her on? After all, she had broken his heart into a million pieces when she left him five years ago.
He was brought out of his thoughts when Aubrey returned, a mug in one hand and a mop in the other.
She walked over to his desk and placed the mug on it, avoiding making contact with his eyes.He knew she had been crying. "Your coffee, sir." She mumbled lowly.
She went to the spot with the split coffee and shards of the broken mug, and began to clean up.
"You don't have to clean up, there's a janitor for that." He said, looking at her with unreadable eyes.
But she didn't stop. "No need, I made the mess so I must clean it up. Besides, I too am just an employee here." She gritted out, picking up the broken pieces.
No, he thought, to me you're more than just that. You're the love of my life.
