Chapter 25

Ex-Husband Turned Boss

Third Person's P.O.V

Logan had taken Aubrey to some pompous Italian restaurant she couldn't even pronounce. There ride there had been fairly quiet, with the occasional question from Logan that she hadn't even bothered to listen to but answered anyway.

He had even taken it upon himself to order for her because he felt that she wasn't even capable of doing it on her own. She wasn't being good company. When the food came, all she did was poke it around with her fork and stare off into space.

"What happened?" he asked, bringing her back to reality.

Aubrey blinked, looking at him. "Hmm? I didn't hear what you said?"

"You're usually very chatty but today you barely speak. And, you haven't even touched your food?" he said, pointing at her plate.

Just to satisfy his curiosity, Aubrey finally took a big bite of her food, managing to look very sloppy whilst doing it. She moaned fakely at how tasty the food was. Don't get her wrong, it was tasty, but her appetite was currently on vacation.

"Yum, this tastes so, so good," she replied, smiling at him but it didn't quite reach her eyes.

Logan rolled his eyes at this, seeing right through her lie. "Bollocks. That bastard Bryce has something to do with your spontaneous change in demeanor. I find it quite offensive that I've invited you out to dinner, yet your so mute. I could have been doing a million other things but I chose to be here, with you."

At his rant, Aubrey felt immensely guilty because he was very right. But how was she just supposed to act normal, to act as if Bryce hadn’t kissed the living daylights out of her just a mere hour ago? Her heartbeat was yet to return to normalcy and the tingling sensation on her swollen-ish lips was taunting her.

But why had he even kissed me, and seemed so confused about it afterwards? If anyone should have been confused, it was me!

Logan pushed his seat back. "You know what, screw this. Can I get the check please." He yelled, and a waiter came scrambling to their table. He gave Logan the check and he cleared it. Logan rose from his sit, threw the napkin that was on his lap onto the table and began to exit the establishment with long, angry strides.

Aubrey wasted no time in doing the same, and following after him. Why did it seem like one way or another, she was always tailing behind a man. This needed to end soon.

When she got his car, Logan had already brought to life so as soon as she got in, he sped off without a second glance. He was silent as he drove, keeping his cool gaze on the road but she knew he was angry and Aubrey knew he was damn well justified. It took approximately 10 minutes for him to get to her apartment complex, better yet, Bryce's apartment complex.

"We're here, you can get out now," he sliced, his tone devoid of any emotion.

She exhaled loudly. "Logan, I truly am sorry for being such shitty company to you. Not just today, but every other time you've asked me out. I've hurt you and I hate myself for it. There's no excuse for my actions lately, but all I can do is apologize. If you're still interested, I'd like to start something...with you." she managed to rev in one breath.

He remained quiet for a couple of seconds, before a ghost of a smile appeared on his face. "Of course, I'm still interested, Aubrey. How can I not be after just a heart-felt apology?" he beamed, reaching out to grab her hand and placing a kiss on her knuckles.

More like half-heartedly felt apology, she wanted to say but held back. "Want to accompany me up?" she asked innocently, hitting him with doe eyes.

That was an offer Logan would never refuse. He switched off the engine and they both walked to the elevator, hand intertwined. When they got to her door, Aubrey shuffled around her bag for her key and inserted it into the door.

"You want to come in for a drink?"

He shook his head. "No, I need to head back to the office. I left some things unfinished but maybe another time."

Aubrey tucked a loose strand behind her ear, looking down at the floor. Logan took the moment as an opportunity to lean in close and place a lingering kiss on her cheek but when he headed for her lips, she knew something was amiss. A second later his lips were on hers. It ended almost as quickly as it happened.

Logan cleared his throat. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that." he said sheepishly, rubbing his nape awkwardly.

But Aubrey leaned back in, giving him yet another kiss. It was sweet and slow, nothing like the kiss Bryce had given her earlier. It's like Bryce was the measuring rod for everything in her life, as if he were some kind of 'ideal man'.

At the thought of this, Aubrey leaned back and offered him another fake smile. "Good night, then." she mumbled, opening her door then disappearing behind it.

If she had stayed a second longer, she would have seen the smug expression that instantly wiped across the clever sod's face. It was wicked, almost cruel.

"One day, my dear, I'll have you in my bed." he smirked, then he sauntered off to the elevator whistling a tune to himself. What a self-righteous prick he was, if only Aubrey knew.

In her condo, Aubrey had kicked off her heels and had plopped down onto the leather couch in a very unladylike manner. She fished her phone out of her purse, then called Bryce's pilot to inform him of his early mystery flight to her hometown Minnesota tomorrow and afterwards, she smacked a pillow into her heart shaped face.

I kissed two very different men today. God, what am I turning into?

When she had kissed Logan, she felt absolutely nothing. Yeah, he was quite the kisser (nothing compared to Bryce though), but he lacked passion. He didn't have fire in him but she had to admit she was attracted to him, better yet, his outward appearance. He tasted like ravioli and scotch, but Bryce had tasted like honey and mint. And there she went again, comparing the two guys again.

What she needed to understand was that these two men were total opposites. Bryce was honestly very sexy, brooding and domineering. Logan, however, was insanely handsome (not very sexy like Bryce), mysterious and dark.

"You've made you choice, Aubrey. Bryce clearly is just confusing you. Give Logan a chance," she chanted to herself, getting of her couch and making her way up to her room.

If only she knew that Logan was just after one thing, and he would stop at nothing to get it.
