She was nervous.
And slightly frightened.
As she pressed the code to open the door to her lair, thoughts on what Blake would say after she told him the truth ran in her mind. Oh god, she hoped that he wouldn't leave her. She couldn't hold it together if he left.
Entering the lair, she saw Henry treating Angela's wound. He turned to Elektra and gave her a small smile.
"She's okay. She just nee to rest." He said.
Looking at Angela, she saw how her cheeks were flushed and how her eyes seemed to look everywhere, except them.
Well, something was going on.
"This is like a real live bat cave...only brighter." Blake said, breaking the silence among them. His eyes were everywhere. His mouth was slightly open as he took in the place with awe.
She smiled before taking his hand in hers. "Come on. Let's go talk at the pantry."
With that, she led him to the small pantry. Blake took a seat down cautiously while his eyes still wondered around restlessly.
She took two bottled water from the fridge and made her way back to him. She sat across him, handing him a bottle.
"Wait here. I'm going to change." She gave him a small smile before disappearing from the pantry.
He waited for her patiently, looking around the place as he tapped his foot to the ground. She later returned with a comfortable black t-shirt and grey track pants.
She took a seat across him and they were silent for a moment. None of them spoke. Their eyes not meeting each other's.
Even though she knew this moment was going to come, she somehow did not know where to start or what to stay. She was nervous, clearly. She was scared, definitely. She just hoped that this goes better than she expected it to be.
"I-" They both blurted out at the same time.
Chuckling as they let their eyes met, Blake gave her an encouraging look. "Just start from the beginning."
With that, she nodded and started to spill her secret.
"Do you know the tale of Arthur?"
Looking at her with his brows furrowed in confusion, he nodded. "King Arthur?" She nodded. "I'm familiar with it."
She started talking again, calmly with her eyes on his. "As you know, Arthur was a brilliant king. He was very powerful. He had a lot of enemies...but the thing is, humans weren't the only enemy he had."
"This world is filled with magical creatures, creatures that we learned from fairy tales and fiction. Dragons, warlocks, vampires...they are all real. Humans just don't know about it. Well, some humans do but we kept it a secret to keep the peace in this world."
"The thing is about magical creatures, is that they're like humans. Some are bad some are good...and if they're bad, they're the worst. Defeating evil magical creatures are difficult. Not many normal humans can beat them. They wouldn't even stand a chance."
"Arthur, with his Excalibur, the sword burnished in the breath of the Great Dragon, is the only human strong enough to fight these monsters. With his friend Merlin, the warlock, they were able to beat the monsters and keep the peace alive in this world."
"Arthur died and there was no longer a king...but someone with his blood, still needs to keep the peace in this world."
Elektra paused, searching Blake's eyes. They gave her nothing, which worried her. She pulled her eyes away, taking a deep breath as she continued her story.
"His only child, raised as a normal person, kept the peace in this world, fighting off the monsters. And this must pass on and on in order to keep this world safe. The descendants. They're called the Protector, the one who is able to fight these monsters just like king Arthur did. There is only one Protector. If the Protector dies, the new one, with Arthur's blood, will be chosen."
Pausing, she looked at him, her eyes meeting those dark brown pools. Her hands were shaking and she could hear the her pulse ringing in her ears.
"I am Arthur's descendant. The Protector. The one who kills these monsters at night. This is who I am."
She couldn't keep looking at him, scared of the rejection in the future, she broke their eye contact. Then, she waited. She waited for him to say something, but she heard nothing. Every second of silence was killing her slowly.
Glancing at him with the corner of her eyes, she saw him staring at the table, his head sunk down and she couldn't read his eyes like she always could and it scared her.
It scared her so freaking much.
"You should leave." She said, breaking the silence between them, as she couldn't take it anymore.
Might as well be broken than be lied to.
"Do you want me to?"
She turned her head towards him and saw him looking at her, his eyes still unreadable.
"No."
She took a step back when he stood up suddenly. He made his way to her and stood right in front of her, only a foot apart.
"Then..." He said, with a gentle smile. "I'm not going anywhere."
Elektra stared at him with disbelief. He's staying. He was supposed to run, he was supposed to hate her. That's what everyone does. They would leave once they found out whom she was.
"Why?"
"It doesn't really matter." He answered.
Frowning, she replied, "Of course it matters! Were you even listening to what I said? Aren't you afraid?"
"Of you? No. I'm a little freaked out about the fact that monsters are real and the Arthur legend is true. That might take a while for me to get used to it." He said nonchalantly.
She blinked, her wide eyes still staring at him with utter disbelief.
"You're nuts."
He chuckled, smiling gently at her, before taking her hand in his. The sensation of her skin touching his was enough to make her heart speed up.
"Fighting monsters doesn't change who you really are. I still see the same lovely girl I see everyday. It doesn't matter because you're still the same person. The sarcastic, entertaining, weird, caring Elektra Potter."
She didn't even realize that a tear had escaped her eye as Blake wiped it away with his thumb. Cupping her cheek, he leaned forward, his eyes locked on hers. "You're still my Elektra Potter and it doesn't change a damn thing."
She chuckled at his cursing before launching herself towards him, wrapping her arms around his neck, hugging him tightly.
With his arms on her waist, she felt her feet left the ground as he held her close to him, kissing her temple before burying his face into her neck, never letting her go even once.
At the corner of the room, near the glass tube, Henry and Angela looked at them hugging each other with happiness on their face.
Everything worked out better than expected. Angela knew that the boy loves her but he was too afraid to tell her and vice versa. They were just adorable and they were meant to be together. Blake stayed. It was one of the good enough reasons for him to be the one for her.
With a smile on her face, she turned her head to Henry and saw him looking at them with his eyes masked with unreadable emotions.
Her smile fell and she took all her courage to ask him the thought that popped in her mind. "You love her." She stated but sounded like a question.
"Of course I love her." He answered, his eyes still looking at Blake and Elektra who were laughing about something Blake said.
Releasing a breath, she shook her head. "No, you love her more than a friend."
"She's family."
"You love her like a lover." She replied quickly, her eyes never left his face.
Henry chuckled and turned to look at her. "Once, I thought I did..." He said before looking back at those two teenagers. "...But I couldn't really see her more than a family to me. She saved me in so many ways. She turned this sad, angry old man into a good one. She's the only one I have left. I love her but not romantically. She has someone else to do that and he would love her passionately."
Smiling, he looked at the couple chuckling while holding hands, smiles on their faces and happiness in their eyes. He had no doubt that he would love her right and she would love him just as much as he does.
***********************
So, you can only kill these monsters with that sword?" Blake asked.
Lying on her bed with his white shirt that showed her those muscles that were tempting to be touched, his slacks off, wearing one of her father's shorts, Elektra felt her face getting warmer and finding it harder to swallow the lump in her throat.
God, he was just so beautiful.
Turning away, she stared at her blue sheets and answered his question. "Um...well, not really. You can use other weapons but you can only kill them at the parts that will directly kill them."
"Like a heart for a vampire?" He asked.
Smiling, she nodded. "Yeah, but when you use Excalibur, you can practically kill them easily without having to attack at the parts that would make them dead directly."
He was silent for a while, which made her lift her head and look at him, finding him looking at her in awe.
"Can I just say how cool that is?"
Elektra laughed, shaking her head in amusement. "Leave it to you to think that's cool."
"It is pretty cool...despite the scariness of the monsters and stuff."
"What...Big strong Blake is afraid of monsters?" She teased.
Chuckling, he let out a gentle smile before taking her hand in his. "We are all afraid of something."
Glancing at their entwined hands before returning his gaze, she smiled and patted his cheek gently. "You are okay with this?" She asked, slightly nervous.
"I'm fine with this, Ela. If it means having my Elektra Potter, I'm fine with it." He answered, grabbing her hand that was on his cheek, giving it a gentle squeeze of reassurance. "I'll always be here. No more insecurities."
With that breathtaking smile he sent her, it was impossible for her to not smile back. It was also impossible for her to not leave a chaste kiss on his cheek before getting off her bed and headed to the tube.
"I'll be right back. I just need to check on some things."
He smiled as he let his head fall on the pillow. "And I'll be right here."
And again, he left her breathless.
***************************
"Ange, you're still up." Elektra stated as she got out of the glass tube. She went to the lair just to make sure everything was okay before going to bed. She was surprised to see Angela still up at the late hour, seated with her eyes scanning a book in her hand.
Angela tore her eyes from the book and lifted her head to meet Elektra. "Just for a while. I'm going to."
"What are you reading?' Elektra asked as she took a seat next to her, peering at the book she was holding.
"Stuff. Something Magnus said bothered me and I thought I looked it up."
Furrowing her brows, Elektra asked, "What did he say?"
Angela closed the book, placing it onto the table gently, stroking the hard cover with her thumb. Tearing her eyes from the book, she met her confused gaze and answered her.
"When I come back, I will be so much stronger."
Elektra saw a flash of fear in Angela's eyes before her eyes turned serious again. "He's up to something."
"When is he never." Elektra stated, rolling her eyes along the way.
Angela chuckled before continuing. "He's going to make himself stronger, so much stronger that it'll be harder to stop him."
"With what?"
A sad smile appeared on Angela's face as she replied. "That's the thing. I don't know...but I remembered you about the zombies and other creatures under Magnus getting stronger. It must be the same thing...but maybe the thing he used on them are just prototypes. I don't know."
Elektra fell into silence at Angela's words. If he were to become even stronger, she might not be able to stop him at all and it made her afraid. Magnus will become invincible and they would all die. She needed to stop him before things get worse.
"Hey..."Angela's voice broke her deep thoughts. She faced her and Angela placed her hand on Elektra's shoulder comfortingly.
"Don't think so hard on it. We'll figure it out. We have an annoyingly powerful vampire, an incredibly smart sorceress and a kickass monster slayer. It'll be alright."
Elektra smiled, deciding to drop the topic as she had enough of worrying today.
"So, what's the deal between you and Magnus?" Elektra asked in a careful tone.
She saw sadness and rage in Angela's eyes as soon as she mentioned the topic. The sorceress gave her a sad smile, staring at thin air as she spoke. "You remember I told you that one of the warlocks betrayed us?"
"That bastard!" Elektra gasped.
"Yeah...None of us knew, he fooled everyone." Angela stated and chuckled dryly at the end.
"He was a whole different person...Charming and sweet...and I was stupid enough and easy enough for him to trick me. I've always wondered what made him choose me over the girls of our group...I knew now."
Silence fell between them. None of them looked at each other. One filled with regret and sadness and the other one fired with rage.
"I'm so going to kill him." Elektra spoke, breaking the silence. The fury in her tone made Angela smiled.
"Well, join the club." Angela chuckled. She gently patted Elektra's head and spoke. "You don't have to worry about me, Ela. I'm fine now. I'm so over him."
Elektra's angry expression shifted into a sad one. She could imagine what was like for Angela, the betrayal, and the sadness. She thought he loved her and he just threw her away. It made Elektra have another reason why she wanted to kill him so badly.
"Now, put those sad eyes away. You should go to sleep. I'm sure the sexy billionaire in your bed is getting restless waiting for you." Angela smirked.
Elektra blushed wildly at Angela's comment. "S-shut up. He insisted on staying."
"Whatever makes you sleep at night." Angela sang.
Elektra rolled her eyes and tried to be annoyed but failed as her lips twitched upwards. "Besides, he makes the nightmares go away." She smiled.
Angela smiled, patting Elektra's head. She knew Blake was good for Elektra. He made her happy and he made her feel safe. With Blake around, he could at least take Elektra's mind of her work. The poor girl was young and bearing so many burdens on her shoulders. She could use some cheering up, comfort, and love like no other and Blake was the one who could do that.
"Goodnight Ange. I'll see you tomorrow. Please don't stay up too late." Elektra said, hugging her briefly before making her way to the glass tube.
Smiling, she replied, "I won't...and make sure you use protection!"
"Angela!" Elektra gasped, blushing furiously,
Laughing, she watched the glass tube elevating with a red face girl in it before returning to her reading.
***********************
Blake looked at the lovely girl lying next to him, snuggling close to his chest. Her exhaustion made her fell asleep quickly but he didn't mind. He had joy just by looking at her while she slept.
All the words that she told him tonight played in his mind again and again. He was still a little afraid and shocked to know that monsters were real and the legend of Arthur was true. He was absolutely surprised when she told him who Angela really was, a sorceress. At that part knowing her teacher was a sorceress , he wasn't really surprised anymore since so he learned so much.
She also told him about Henry, which cleared a few things for him. However, it didn't erase the jealously he had for him, though it did soften it a little bit. He just couldn't help it. Henry's a hunk and he's just...well, he's just ordinary Blake. There was nothing really special about him anyways.
Looking at her adorable face, he lightly brushed her cheek with his finger. She smiled and it warmed his heart to see it.
She made him feel special.
He loved her, he really did and knowing who she really was made him proud of her in every single way. He was amazed but there was one thing that bugged him since she told him the truth.
There was a possibility that she might be killed.
This possibility made him terrified. Knowing the danger she goes through every night added worry in his heart. He couldn't bear seeing her despite how experienced and how strong she is. He just didn't want to see her wounded. He could lose her any day and he couldn't take the thought of it. He didn't want to lose her.
He just couldn't.
**************
"So, I just have to take a blood sample from a zombie and kill it?" Elektra asked, zipping up her jacket as they entered the graveyard.
"Yup, that's pretty much it." Angela replied nonchalantly.
Angela didn't stay up the whole night yesterday. She couldn't come up with what was making Magnus and his troupe stronger but she did come up with an idea that might let them figure it out. She surprised them all by telling them to get a blood sample from the zombies. She later explained that it might solve the mystery on what Magnus was using to make them stronger.
Elektra agreed and surprisingly Henry as well. However, the surprise didn't stop there. Blake decided that he wanted to join them tonight and that made Elektra went ballistic.
"No! Are you mad?!" She yelled. What in the world was he thinking, wanting to follow her on her hunt?
"I'm completely serious. Please, Ela. I won't be a trouble, I promise." He told her.
Gritting her teeth, she shook her head. "I'm not worried about you being a trouble, Blake. I'm worried that you might get hurt, or possibly killed." She barked.
"I won't get hurt. I'll be careful and stand at a safe distance. Please, Ela." He lifted his hands and gave her an innocent look.
Elektra pinched the bridge of her nose and closed her eyes. She felt so frustrated at the moment she wanted to hit something. "Blake... please, don't argue with me. I don't- I can't lose you, okay? So, please, just stop asking."
She heard him sighed and suddenly, she felt a hand shoulder. His finger lifted her chin, making her look into his pleading eyes.
"I know that you worried but I promise you I'll be fine. You won't lose me." He said with so much intensity in his eyes that she found her guard falling apart.
Oh, she was so going to regret this.
"Fine." She sighed. "But Henry will stick with you."
The smile she received from him nearly blinded her and made her stomach all mushy inside. "Thank you, Ela. I promise you I'll be fine." He said before hugging her.
She hoped the decision she made that morning wouldn't be something she regret. A part of her was very worried that he might get hurt and another part of her is just scared of him actually seeing this side of her. She was going to be violent ad covered in blood. She was pretty sure it wasn't attractive and if anyone sees her, they would run away.
"Don't worry. I'll back you up if anything." Angela said, breaking her thoughts.
She stopped at the safe distance from the field that was going to be covered in blood later. "Stay here and take care of him." She commanded Henry, which gave her a nod in return.
Turning to Blake, she furrowed her brows and gave him a stern look. "No matter what happens, don't come for me, alright?"
He smiled boyishly, making her stomach all weird again. "Yes, ma'am." He saluted.
She turned back to the scene, walking away from them and towards the centre of the graveyard. Crackling sounds filled her ear and automatically her hand went to her sword as she drew it out from its sheath.
"Ready?" Angela asked, glancing at her with a small smile.
"As I'll ever be." She answered before turning around, charging at the incoming zombie.
Swinging the sword as she goes, the zombies groaned in defeat, as they were cut and slayed into pieces. One by one she slayed, swiftly, barely giving them a chance to fight back.
In a safe distance from the scene, Blake stared at her as she fought. Her hair twirled and her movements were fast. She seemed so unreal.
"Is it weird that I find it insanely hot seeing her fighting zombies?" He asked Henry while her eyes stuck on her.
He heard Henry chuckled before answering him. "Not at all, my friend, not at all."
Stumbling back as a zombie leaped on Elektra, she placed her sword between them, making it unable to bit her. A fist her face and that was enough to piss her off as she knocked the zombie with her head before she hastily turned her sword and shoved it towards its chest.
Releasing the zombie from her sword, she quickly turned as she felt a presence behind her, raising her sword to stop the incoming attack.
The zombie in front her was holding an axe. Its face was half flesh and skull, and one of its eyes sockets it empty. The sight was enough to make her stomach uneasy. She still never get used to how awful they looked.
"Well, you certainly didn't come out from your grave." She mumbled as she pushed her sword, sending the zombie stumbling a few feet back.
She took out the syringe in her pocket and stabbed it onto the zombie's chest before pulling it away as she swung her sword through the zombie's neck.
Looking at her surrounding, she found that there were no more of the dead. Looking down at the syringe in her hand, she was happy to find it filled with zombie's blood.
"Got it." She shouted to Angela, turning to find her.
Angela dropped into her view, unharmed and well, making her way towards her. "That's great. You okay?" She asked.
"Yeah, fine. Are you?"
"A little bit bruised and cut by a knife on my arm...nothing a little bit of magic couldn't help." She said.
"Wait, you can actually heal?"
"Yeah, I can but the bigger the wound is the more energy we used. So, we try our best to avoid doing that. Anyway, let's get some rest and check this beauty out tomorrow. You know anyone who's really good at determining elements?"
Nodding, she answered her. "Alfred can help us."
****************
The next day, in the lair below the normal house ran under Elektra's stepmom, they were all sprawled out on chairs and the single bed in the lair as they waited for Alfred to get the result. Since Alfred was a great scientist, Elektra figured he could tell what made the zombies stronger from the blood and Alfred was nice enough to help them.
"Thanks again for the help Alfred." Elektra said as she took a seat next him who was looking focused on the microscope.
"It's not a problem, Ela. You know I'll always help you."
She smiled before swirling her cup of tea before taking a sip.
"That's not...that's just not right." She heard Alfred mumble.
Dropping her cup on table, she stood up and went nearer to him, trying to see what was wrong. "What is it?"
Alfred lifted his face from the microscope and she was surprised to see that his face slightly turned pale. It made her worry that something was wrong.
Frowning and anxious, she repeated her question. "What is it?"
Letting out a shaky breath, Alfred spoke of words that Elektra never thought she would ever hear. "The drug that your father was working on, that no one but him and I knew about, is in that blood."
