Classes ended in a flash and it was already lunch time. Elektra was right in front of her locker, opening it as she turned the knob, getting the code right.
"Move, you annoying crows!" She heard a familiar voice shout at those girls who were conversing about nails and hair in the middle of the hallway.
Elektra's lips twitched into a small smile. She didn't have to turn to know who it was. Walking down the hallway towards her was her best friend, Chelsea Lamar. Chelsea Lamar is a tall and beautiful black girl with a gorgeous face and body. Her pretty brown skin and her beautiful face made girls jealous of her. Her killer legs made men drool and chase her. She was gorgeous, way gorgeous than her stepsisters. She could be in the popular group if she wanted but she didn't.
Chelsea was also different from others. She's straightforward and a little bit crazy but Ela loved her. She had always been there for Ela and she understood her like no one does. Ela didn't understand why Chelsea would stick with her but she was glad.
"Ela!" She called excitedly, her eyes wide opened as she stopped in front of her friend and enveloped her in a tight crushing hug.
"Chels." Ela replied with an amused smile as she hugged her best friend back tightly. She had missed her so much and she was glad to see her again.
"I missed you!" Chelsea exclaimed as she let go of her. A smile crossed her face as she looked at her friend. She was beautiful as always and she was stupid not to notice it.
"Girl, where have you been? I didn't see you this morning." She asked, curious to where she were as Chelsea was unable to find her in the school area this morning.
Ela stuffed her books in the locker as she replied. "I was late."
Chelsea frowned at her statement as she somehow had figured out her reason."You're still riding that bicycle, aren't you?" Chelsea asked with a stern look.
Ela gave her a sheepish smile and nodded. "Well, I had no choice."
Chelsea let out a sigh as she leaned forward. It was sad for her to see her friend ride that bicycle. It took her a lot of energy to cycle every day to school and by the time she reached school, she would be tired. Chelsea wished she had a better life and those evil witches can go rot in hell. Ela deserved better.
"Elektra, you know I could pick you up." Chelsea said. Her stern look on her face didn't leave her face. She had a car and picking Ela up was not a problem to her at all.
"I know but I just don't want to trouble you." Ela spoke.
Chelsea snorted as she rolled her eyes. "Oh please, Ela. It's no trouble at all! It's not like I have to push the car to get to you."
Ela shrugged before closing her locker. "I know...but still..."
Chelsea held up her hand, stopping her from saying a word. She didn't understand this girl sometimes. Why couldn't she just let her help her?
"No. I'm not going to listen to you. You are going to ride with me starting tomorrow and I'm not going to take 'no' from you. Alright?"
Ela stared at her friend for a while and Chels did the same thing. Ela didn't want to burden her friend. She had done so much to her but she was getting a feeling that Chelsea wouldn't let her decline her offer. Soon, Ela let out a small sigh and nodded in defeat. "Fine."
Chelsea beamed as she took Ela's hand. "Great!"
Ela looked at her friend in awe. How did she get so lucky to have a friend like Chelsea? "Thanks Chels." She thanked sincerely.
Chelsea waved her hand dismissively and smiled. "It's fine, Ela. Plus, I wanted to see that cute little sister of yours."
Ela smiled widely as her heart melted just by thinking of Darcy, her little sunshine. "Yeah. Darcy misses you too." She told.
"Tell her I miss her too and she didn't have to miss me that much anymore since I'm going to be picking her up too." Chelsea said as they both started walking to the cafeteria.
The cafeteria was crowded as usual but they were able to sit and have lunch since they had their own table. Chelsea somehow conquered the table few years ago and it had been hers since. No one ever sits there unless it was them. Ela didn't know what her friend had done but she was glad she did it.
They sat down, placing their trays of food on the table as they ate their lunch while conversing. Chelsea had tons of topics to be talked about and Ela knew she could never get bored whenever Chelsea talked.
"So, have you heard?" Chelsea asked Ela eagerly.
Ela shook her head and replied. "Heard what?"
"Dude, Blake Conrad is here." Her friend said excitedly as she took a bite of her sandwich.
Ela gave Chelsea a blank stare as she was totally clueless to whom this Blake Conrad is. Chelsea being her best friend understood her and started to explain but not before rolling her eyes at her. "Ela, he's like one of the richest people in the world. His dad owns so many businesses, he put Donald Trump to shame."
"Oh...then, it's his dad that's rich...not him." Ela said as she munched on her burger.
"Well, he's still considered rich." Chelsea said in response. "...but that's not the point. The point is that he's one hunk of a dude!"
Ela smiled at her friend's enthusiasm. "Oh really?" She asked, raising her eyebrows.
Chelsea nodded. "He's supremely handsome, Ela. It's not possible to not drool over him!" She exclaimed, flinging her hand in the air.
Ela could only smile at her friend. Chelsea was that kind of girl that would eye guys like a kid in a candy store but Ela knew her friend. She's not the usual kind of girl that does one night stand. She's more of a relationship kind of girl but that never stopped her from appreciating sexy men.
Chelsea kept on talking about this Blake guy for a while and Ela could only listen to her. She enjoyed listening to her friend and let her do the talking. Chelsea understood Ela and she knew that she's not that girl who talked much but she's a very good listener and she was glad. She needed a friend who could listen to her and not judge her and Ela was that girl.
Out of the sudden, the cafeteria went quiet but not for long. Soft whispers could be heard in the cafeteria. Ela and Chelsea turned to look at what everyone was looking. A gasp left Ela's mouth as her heart skipped a beat. It was him.
Ela watched him as he made his way to his table. There was a guy next to him, taller than Blake. He had a built body and a handsome face. His eyes were green and he had a shaggy blonde hair. He was handsome but not quite as handsome as Blake was. Blake's coffee brown eyes that were so mesmerizing and that sexy-
Whoa, hold on there. Did I just compare them both? And did I just think he's sexy? Ela thought.
"Ela?" She heard her friend called her, her hand waving in front of her face.
"H-huh?" She snapped out of her intense gaze at Blake and turned to look at her friend who was looking at her with a smirk on her face.
"Ooo...so there's finally a guy who catches Elektra Potter's eyes." Chelsea teased.
Ela rolled her eyes at her friend's comment. Leave it to Chelsea to tease her. She hated to admit it but Chelsea's right. Blake was the first guy that actually caught her attention long enough. Well, not technically. She had a huge crush on Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice but that man was a fictional character.
The fact that Chelsea had noticed her staring at Blake made Ela uncomfortable. Was her staring really obvious? "I-I...um..."
"And he got her stuttering too." Chelsea smirked.
Ela blushed furiously as she bit her bottom lip, a habit of hers that she does whenever she gets nervous. "I-I don't know what you're talking about." She stuttered.
Chelsea's smile grew wider. "Oh, you know what I'm talking about."
Ela groaned and replied, "He's in my history class."
Chelsea's eyes grew wide at her statement as she let out a squeal. "No way! You get to look at Blake Conrad every day!"
"Wait...he's the guy?" Ela asked, dumbfounded.
Chelsea gave her the 'you've got to be kidding me look' and nodded furiously. "Yes, that is Blake Conrad!" She exclaimed in a loud whisper. "Now, you could see the man that catches your attention almost every day!"
Ela let out a grunt and Chelsea laughed in response. "Relax buddy, I'm just teasing...but you know you got the hots over that sexy fine man over there."
Ela grunted again, making Chelsea laughed louder. "Aww...come on. It's not wrong to appreciate that sexy body."
Ela smiled. "Yeah." She admitted as sip on her drink. She did appreciate his fine and mighty body. She just hoped that he wouldn't catch her attention too much.
Chelsea raised an eyebrow at her answer. "So, you do agree he's sexy?"
Ela could only smile shyly as she shrugged. Chelsea didn't need to ask more to know that Blake had caught her friend's attention.
They finished their lunch easily as they're both girls who loved to eat and headed to their class. It's a good thing they had the same class after this. They both hated to be apart with each other.
"Oh yeah, my mom asked you to come over and have dinner sometime again." Chelsea said, as they both were walking to their classroom.
Mrs Lamar is an amazing, warm-hearted, forty-nine year old woman. She worked as a nurse in the local hospital, supporting her and her children's' life. She was an amazing mom and a kind hearted woman that supported her children and gave her best to make sure that they're happy. She even treated Elektra as one of her own and Ela treated her as her second mother.
Ela smiled and gave Chelsea a nod. Dinner at the Lamar's was always amazing and entertaining. She wouldn't miss it out for anything but due to her stepmother, it was hard to attend them. "Tell her I said thanks and I'll try my best to come over."
"So...there's this party tonight..." Chelsea started talking.
Raising her eyebrow, Ela looked at her friend, amused. "And..."
"And...I was hoping that you could go with me?" Chelsea asked, giving her a pleading look.
Ela gave Chelsea a knowing look before answering. "Of course, I'd go with you. It's not like I don't have an evil stepmother that doesn't let me go out and have fun." She said sarcastically.
Chelsea smiled as she bent her body slightly towards Elektra with her hands clasped together. "...and there you have it ladies and gentlemen, Elektra Potter's famous sarcasm."
Ela rolled her eyes at her friend as Chels looped her arm with hers. "You know I can't go, Chels. It's not like I have a choice."
Chelsea frowned and gave her friend a sympathetic look. "I know...but maybe you could sneak out or something?"
"And be dead by tomorrow? Sure." Ela answered with sarcasm.
Chelsea chuckled as she leaned her head on Ela's. "God, I love your sarcasm."
"Thank you." Ela said with a proud smile on her face.
"Yeah. You could win a Grammy for it." Her friend said as they got into their class and took their seats.
Having Chelsea, as a friend was something special. She's a bubbly, fierce, entertaining and awesome girl and a very good friend. Ela still didn't understand why Chelsea would stick with her but she was happy that she did. It pained her to keep her identity as the Protector from her best friend but she had to. She wanted Chelsea to be safe and truthfully, she's horrified that if Chelsea knew she wouldn't be friends with her anymore.
She cared for Chelsea so much. She looked at her as her sister, her own family member. Losing her would be devastating. People like Chelsea, the relationship they had, made Ela more serious in the Protector business. She would not let those monster hurt Chelsea or anyone that she cared about. She bet her life on it.
***********************
"So, it's still a no huh?" Chelsea asked as they walked out of school. Classes finished in a flash and Ela was glad that the first day wasn't so boring. She had two classes with Chelsea, she was grateful for that, and what made the first day even more interesting and surprising was that she had three classes with Blake Conrad.
She was surprised to see him in those classes and tried her hardest not to stare at him. However, she felt his gaze on her a few times. It got her wondering and curious. Was her outfit today really bad or was she really that hideous? Putting Blake aside, the first day at school was actually okay.
Ela gave Chelsea an apologetic smile and nodded. "Yeah...sorry Chels. You know I would love to go with you...it's just that I can't." She said.
Chelsea gave Ela a comforting smile as she placed her hand on her shoulder. "Hey, it's fine. I understand." She said. "You need a ride to work?" Chelsea asked.
"Nah, I got my bicycle." Ela replied.
Chelsea gave Ela a knowing look as she shook her head. "It's quite far, Ela. Let me give you a ride and I'll ask Lance to take that bike for you and send it home." Chelsea said.
Lance was Chelsea's older brother. He was a tall, buff man with a handsome face. He's really nice and gentle. He had an incredible personality that made people love him immediately. He worked at school as a basketball coach, helping their mother lift the entire load ever since their father had died in a warzone.
Knowing Chelsea stubbornness, Ela could only agree to her. "Alright...but you have to buy me lunch tomorrow."
"Sure." Her friend replied.
As they reached the parking lot, they saw a crowd at the corner of the parking lot. Giggles and flirty voices were heard. The two best friends weren't surprise to see Blake Conrad leaning against his car, surrounded by girls. However, they were surprised to see that there was a scowl on his face and he looked annoyed. Ela felt herself smiling. He looked cute when he's annoyed.
Whoa, whoa, whoa...did I just think he's cute?
"Ely? Ely?" Ela felt the hem of her shirt being tugged on and heard a voice from below, calling her. She quickly snapped out of it and looked down to find Darcy who was looking at her with confusion.
"Hey Darcy." She greeted, smiling at her softly as she bent down and hugged her sister. "How's school?"
"It was okay. I made friends." She said with a happy smile on her face.
Ela smiled, knowing that her sister was happy and doing well in school. She didn't want her to be miserable and alone.
"Hey Darcy!" Chelsea exclaimed as she grabbed Darcy into a hug.
"Hi Chels!" Darcy replied with the exact eagerness. Her eyes went to the car that was behind the two best friends. In result, her eyes grew wide in excitement, as she seemed to figure out about the ride.
"Are you going to give us a ride?" She asked.
Chelsea grinned and nodded. "Yup. Come on, kiddo. Let's go before your sister gets late for work." She said, emphasizing on the word 'work'.
Ella nodded in realization and agreement as they got into the car and drove off.

Blake's patient was on the edge. It took him everything not to growl out in to anger to these girls around him. Didn't they understand his silence meant that he wanted to be left alone? And where in the world was his bodyguard right now? He waited for him since the bell rang and he still wasn't there. Just because he was his friend, it didn't mean he could take advantage him and lay off on his job. He let out a silent grunt as he shifted his legs to make himself comfortable.
"...You should hang out with us sometimes." A girl in front of him said in a flirty tone. Blake held back the urge to roll his eyes.
She was pretty. Nice legs, gorgeous face, seductive body, nice blue eyes but he wasn't interested in her. He wasn't looking for a girl right now nor did he liked going on one night stands. Yeah, maybe sometimes his lust took over him and he did it but he was not the 'do it all the time' guy. He wasn't a player. Besides, his mind was playing images of the beautiful girl he saw this morning. He couldn't quite get his mind off her and if he saw her, it would be hard to take his eyes off her. She captivated him somehow, intrigued his mind. She made him want to know her better.
Just when he was thinking of her, he saw her a few metres away from him. She was hugging a small girl tightly with her lips curved into a soft smile. She looked beautiful smiling, he thought. He still wished that he could see her eyes clearly. He was sure it would be beautiful just like the owner. The girl next to her hugged the little girl as well and exchanged a few words before they got into the car and left.
"So, there's a party tonight..." The girl in front of him purred, snapping him from his stare. "...It would be great if you go. The party is going to be more awesome if you're going." The girl said. The girl  next to her nodded and smiled seductively. They look the same but with different hair colour. He assumed they're both twins but the other girl didn't talk as much as her twin here.
A party? Well, he could use that right now. He needed to take his mind off things for a while. Maybe he would go.
"Where?" He asked, his eyes never meeting hers.
The girl smiled as if she had won something and innocently brushed her hand on his arm. Blake frowned, feeling disgusted at her simple touch.
"Oh, it's just nearby." She replied as she started to explain its location.
Blake nodded numbly while he listened to her. Soon, the girl started ranting about other topics, getting him even more annoyed. When he saw the figure of his friend, relief washed over him.
"We have to go." Blake said shortly as he quickly moved and got into his car, not waiting for any reply from the girls. His friend got into the car as well and Blake immediately drove off.
"Sorry man. I swear the casserole from the cafeteria is poisonous." His friend, Owen said.
Blake glanced at him and saw his friend's sweating, pale and tired face, his back leaning against the seat. He looked horrible. Concern filled him.
"It's fine. Are you okay?" He asked, feeling the need to ask that.
Owen smiled tiredly and nodded. "Sure man. I'm just dandy. Lunch lady's casserole wouldn't stop the amazing Owen." He spoke.
Blake chuckled at him. "Go home and rest, Owen. I'm not going anywhere later but there's this party tonight and I'll be fine on my own."
"No way, Blake. I'm your bodyguard. Wherever you go, I go." Owen said.
"Owen, you're sick. You need to stay in and rest...and besides, it's just a party. I can take care of myself." Blake replied. "I'll be fine...and I'm not going to take a 'no' from you."
Owen let out a sigh as he placed the back of his hand over his eyes. "Fine...but if anything happens, call me and I'll be there straight away."
Blake grinned and agreed. He let his friend sleep as he drove to his destination.

After a few minutes of singing in the car and listened to Chelsea's ranting on how evil her stepmother and her little minions were, they finally arrived at the daycare. She kissed Darcy on the forehead, told her to be safe and Chelsea gave Ela a tight hug and told her to call her when she was done before she drove off.
Ela let out a sigh as she looked at the small house in front of her. Sunshine Daycare was the name. The daycare was her mother's pure hard work. She loved children and get along easily with them. So, she decided to build a daycare when they moved into this town.
It was originally named Helianthos (which meant sunflower) Daycare since her mother was Greek but of course, her evil stepmother took over the business after her dad died and renamed it. Ela had to work here and earned money as the witch thought that she had to do something since she's taking care of her.
Taking care my ass, Ela thought as she opened the door to the daycare.
"Hey, it's our favourite employee." A man with curly blond hair and gorgeous grey eyes said.
Ela smiled and gave him a small wave. "Hey Dan."
The man smiled warmly at her as he waved back. Daniel Isaac is a medium size, lean and handsome twenty-two year old man. He was not buff but he had muscles. His cute baby face was one of his good traits and his loving personality makes everyone falls in love with him. Kids loved him right away when they met him. He had a bubbly character in him, charming and fun being with.
He had worked at the day care ever since Ela's mother handled it. Her mother loved his personality and immediately hired him as manager and he'd been there since even when her evil stepmother came and took over the day care. Daniel stuck with the day care and didn't leave Ela alone as he knew how evil her stepmother was. He felt bad for the kid. She was a good girl and the evil witch had to ruin her life. The least he could do was to be with her and support her like any kind of brother would.
"So... the queen told me that you had to work extra hours?" Dan asked as he put down the little boy in his arms, running away to his playmate.
"Yeah." Ela answered.
He looked at her and frowned. "What was it for this time?"
Ela gave him a sad smile as she put her old bag in the small locker next to the counter. "Breaking one of her plates."
Daniel let out a sigh. Why did this amazing girl have to go through so much? "Come here you." He said, holding out his arms for her.
Elektra smiled as she went into his embrace and hugged him back. Daniel's hug was always comforting. It made her happy to know that there were people who cared about her.
"I wish it could be better...and I know that one day it'll be." Daniel whispered as he broke the embrace.
Ela smiled and patted his cheek. "I'll hold on to your words then." She said.
"So, what's new?" She asked as re-tied her hair into a ponytail.
"Well, I have a date with a lovely lady tomorrow." Daniel replied. Ela rolled her eyes and chuckled. He was a total ladies' man but she loved him. "...and there's a new kid today."
"Really?" Ela asked as she pushed the bridge of her glasses.
Daniel nodded as he went to her side and pointed his finger to the child. "There she is." He spoke.
There was a small girl sitting next to Ryan; one of the kids in the day care and they seemed to be in a deep conversation. Her pale blonde hair shone beautifully and her cute face made Ela think that she would grow up to be a real beauty. Her eyes were dark brown and it sparkled in happiness. She was a true beauty. However, she seemed familiar.
"She's pretty." Ela muttered, her eyes fixed at the girl.
Daniel nodded and hummed in agreement. "Yup, she's a sweetheart. Her name is Kate. She's three."
"Well, it looks like Ryan's getting his groove on." Ela remarked.
Daniel chuckled as he slung his arms on her shoulder. "Yeah. He couldn't take his eyes of her since he saw her. Anyway, she's a good kid. Not much trouble and all. She's sweet. Want to say hi?" He asked.
Ela nodded and they walked to the corner where the two kids were. The kids seemed to notice their presence as they turned their head towards them. The smile on Ryan's face widened as he stood up and ran to Ela.
"Ela! Ela!" He called her excitedly.
Ela smiled as she went down on her knees and hugged the child. "Hey Ryan." She said before breaking off the hug and patted his head.
"I made a new friend today!" He shouted, his face beaming with happiness.
Ela raised her eyebrows, smiling at the little boy. "Really? Would you care to introduce me to your new friend?" She asked. Her eyes went over to the girl who was looking at her shyly.
Ryan went on and introduced her to Ela. Kate was very shy but polite as she greeted her and threw her a shy smile. Ela liked this little girl already. After that, Ryan went on talking about what they did today and Elektra sat down on the floor and listened to them while Daniel entertained other kids.
The sound of the bell coming from the door chime caught Ela's attention but she still didn't move from her spot. Soon, she heard footsteps nearing her, stopping just behind her.
"Ela, Kate's ride is here." Daniel spoke.
Ela got up from the floor and turned to meet Daniel but stumbled when she hit something hard. A strong arm wrapped around her waist which ignite sparks in her, caught her from falling. Ela let out a small gasp when her eyes met a pair of gorgeous coffee brown eyes.
Her heart skipped a beat and her eyes widened in surprise when she saw Blake Conrad in front of her, their faces a few centimetres away. She could feel his warm minty breath on her face. His face did not move and his eyes stared at her. She didn't expect him to be here and this surprised her incredibly.
A soft cough was heard and it brought them both back to the world. His arm around her waist loosened and Ela took a few steps back, her face heated and flushed. Blake's eyes were still on her and a small smile crept up his face. She looked adorable and it took everything for him not to caress her flushed face.
"Blake!" Little Kate exclaimed as she went running to him and hugged his feet tightly.
Blake bent down his body and picked her little sister up. "Hey Katie." He said. His deep husky voice sent shivers down Elektra's spine. God, even his voice was sexy.
Oh, curse him for having this effect on her.
"Were you good?" He asked.
Kate nodded furiously. "Yup! I made new friends." She spoke excitedly.
Blake's eyes shone in happiness as he pushed a lock out of his little sister's face. "That's great." He said.
"And this is Ela. She's my friend too." She said as her head turned to look at Ela.
Ela gave Kate a smile. Blake looked at her and Ela felt her beating heart picked up its speed. Why was she acting like this? Damn him, she cursed.
"She's pretty, right?" Kate pointed out.
Ela blushed at the little girl's compliment. She looked over to Daniel and he was looking at her with an amused smile on his face. Her face went redder as she bent her head down shyly.
She bit her bottom lip due to her nervousness as she felt Blake's heated gaze on her. She silently wished that this would be over soon. She couldn't handle so much attention from him. It was burning her. She glanced up and saw him looking at her with an unreadable expression on his face.
"Yes, she is." Blake finally replied to Kate.
His compliment made butterflies in her stomach fluttered and felt the heat crawling up her neck. She was sure she was as red as a tomato right now. She wasn't used to compliments and to get compliments from such a handsome man made her swoon.
Blake cleared his throat several times, breaking the awkward tension. "Um...we have to go. Thank you for taking care of her." He said, his eyes meeting hers once more before he turned, giving Daniel a nod and left.
She let out a breathy exhale when the figure was no longer in sight. She sat down on the nearby chair and ran her fingers through her hair.
Oh, curse that man once more for having this effect on her. Curse him.
