***********************
Two days. Two days left till the war and she was panicking. She had been training the past few nights and days, sometimes with the army but most of the time alone. She focused better when she trained on her own but sometimes she would ask Henry to help her with her training in speed, senses and defence. Alfred would train her on sword wielding and she was getting better or so.
At the same time, she also managed to spend more time with Darcy, taking her out with Kate and Blake, her boyfriend. She somehow still couldn't get use of the term 'boyfriend' on him. Blake would tease her, asking her to tell him whom he was to her, which made her blush and punch him playfully.
He had been so wonderful to her. He treated her the way every girl should be treated. He made her feel wanted and so loved. He would stay late at night just to see her train and kept her company. He would sometimes fell asleep and she had joy watching him sleeping with his head on the table.
He was so wonderful.
He had been there for her for the whole process, supporting her and she couldn't be thankful enough for having him as the love of her life.
She knew she was still seventeen, almost eighteen and Blake was her first love but she had that feeling, the feeling where you just know that the person is the one and Blake is the one for her. She had fallen in love with him ever since she laid her eyes on him. The day they spent their time at his mansion's garden, dancing in the rain, that was when she knew she really loved him. It wasn't just a confused feeling. It was real.
She would do anything to protect him. Winning this war would protect him and everyone she loved. She had to win.
"Keep your feet steady, Elektra. Balance yourself and keep your posture straight." Alfred commanded.
Training with Alfred helped her. She needed to excel with her sword fighting skills and since Alfred was one of the greatest sword wielders she had ever known, she had no doubt that she would be better with it as she had a great teacher.
Elektra did as told before lifting the sword up to block Alfred's incoming attack. She felt her muscles tightened as Alfred's blade hit hers and with a huge amount of strength, she pushed the blade away. Taken aback with the force, Alfred lost his footing and his torso was left unprotected. She kicked his chest, which made his grip on the sword weaken. Swiftly, she hit his sword and it flew away from his hand. Without a chance to fight back, Alfred's eyes met the tip of the sword.
"Well done, Ela. Your strength and skills have increased. It would be a huge privilege for you." He said.
Grinning, Elektra let her arm fall to her side. "I hope so because I need to win." She said.
Smiling, he met her determined eyes. "And you will, Protector. Just take it easy for these two days left. You need a lot of rest."
"But I need to be better." Elektra answered, her lips pressed together forming a thin line of displeasure.
"You are better, Ela. You've gotten so much better. You've been training non-stop and you finally managed to beat me. You're better than me at sword wielding."
"You will always be better at it, Alfred." She said with a soft smile.
Alfred chuckled as he patted her head gently. "Rest Ela. Trust me when I said that you've done enough."
Seeing the determined look he was giving her, Elektra had to agree with him. She won't stop training but she would cut them down.
"Fine." She said in a defeated sigh.
Her answer got Alfred smiling widely in satisfaction. Picking up the sword that had fallen away from him, he placed it in its place and grabbed his coat from the wooden chair set up with the table in the middle of the lair.
"I'll better be off now. I'll contact you if there's anything...and put some ice on your arm and back. It'll help with the soreness." He said, smiling briefly before exiting the room through the main door that separated the lair and the tunnel.
Just as he left, she heard the sound of the moving lift of the glass tube that connected the liar with her bedroom. A smile appeared on her face as her eyes met the person who was walking out the glass tube.
"Hi." Blake said, walking towards her, looking ever so dashing with a smile on his face.
"Hi." She replied, placing her sword back into its sheath. She picked up a towel from the bed before meeting him in the middle. The front of theirs shoes touched, his scent filled her nostrils and her eyes stared at those autumn leaves-coloured eyes.
"How's work?" She asked.
"It was fine...the same thing as usual." Blake replied, eyeing her.
Elektra suddenly became self-conscious. Sweat covered her face and her body, strands of hair stuck to her forehead. She was sure she didn't smell as nice as him and she was sure she looked horrible.
Just when she lifted the towel in her hand to wipe her messy face, his hand caught her wrist.
Confused, she lifted her eyes to look at him. She found him looking at her with gentleness in his eyes and a soft smile on his lips.
"What?" She asked, her eyes wide with anxiousness.
Grabbing the towel from her hand, he wiped the sweat on her temple gently. "I didn't tell you yet how beautiful you are today." He said with his eyes focused on his actions.
Elektra felt her cheeks warm. She knew better to be self-conscious with him. He seen her at her worst and he still was in love with her. She still didn't understand why he chose her. Any guy would have been running far from her when they saw her at her worst and know the truth about her.
"There." He said, after he finished wiping off the sweat on her. He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, which made her cringe since she knew how sticky and smelly she was.
Blake chuckled softly when she cringed. She stared at him baffled and said, "You shouldn't have done that. I'm sticky and sweaty...it's gross."
"I wiped the sweats away and it's not gross kissing my girlfriend's forehead. Besides, we've done things way grosser than that."
Hearing his words made her cheeks bright red with embarrassment. "We haven't-"
"I meant making out, Ela...and here I thought you didn't have such a perverted mind." He teased, chuckling.
She was sure now that her face was as red as an apple. Looking at his gleeful eyes and him laughing happily, she frowned as punched him on the arm.
"Ow." He yelped in the middle of his laughter, the towel in his hand dropped to the floor. "I forget how strong you are sometimes." He said.
Sensing her annoyance towards her, he pulled her closer to him till she was standing between his feet. "Don't be mad. I was just teasing you." He whispered in her ear, sending shivers down her spine.
Oh, darn it. She could never be angry with him so long. Screw his charming ways.
"You can't do that." She grunted.
"Do what?" He asked innocently while kissing her neck.
"Use your charms and make me not mad at you." She breathed.
He laughed softly, burying his face into her neck. "But you love my charms and it's working."
She couldn't help but smile at his comment. She turned her head and kissed his temple while her fingers sank into his hair. "Idiot."
"So...are you free tonight? Do you want to go get dinner?" He asked after he lifted his head from her neck.
"I'm almost done for today. I just need to practice hand-to-hand combat."
"Seeing how tired you look, I think you've done enough for today." He said with concern in his eyes.
Seeing the worry in his eyes, she touched his cheek comfortingly and said, "I know. I'll cut it down tomorrow. I just need to practice fighting and I'll be done for today."
Knowing that he wouldn't win, he nodded. "Fine...but one condition. I'll be your opponent."
His words startled her. She stared at him dazed and confused. She knew he was strong. She didn't have to see him in action to know. She was surprised at his request to be her opponent.
"Are you sure?" She asked.
Her question made him raise his eyebrow towards her. "What? You think I couldn't fight and maybe win?"
She rolled her eyes, though her lips curved into a smile. "Fine. But don't say I didn't warn you." She said playfully.
She made her way towards the training site and he followed behind her. There were keyboards and screens at the side of the site that allowed her to train virtually. She took of her shoes and he did as well before stepping on the black mat.
She stood at the other end and created a distance between her feet, her arms held up in front of her, aligned with her shoulders.
"Charge at me when you're ready." She said, staring at him with a determined look on her face.
"Don't go easy on me." He said. He charged at her, swinging his fist to her stomach. She managed to block it but his other fist came straight to her shoulder abruptly. She barely managed to stop him from hitting her by placing her palm in front of his fist.
"Wow, you're not going easy on me, are you?" She asked, staring at him.
"Knowing that I would get my ass kicked? Nope." He chuckled.
Sensing it's time, Elektra started to attack him. She threw a few punches that he managed to block skilfully. She pushed her elbow towards his torso but Blake blocked her attack by holding her elbow firmly.
She had to admit she was surprised. She knew he was strong but she didn't know that he was skilful at fighting. The way he stood, the way he charged at her and the way he blocked her attack told her that he knew very much of what he was doing.
"With your skills there, I'm not surprise if you're an undercover cop." She teased in the middle of the fight, blocking his kick before kicking him away.
Her kick sent him a few steps back. Staring at her, he wiped the sweat on his forehead. "After I was kidnapped, I took fighting lessons. I wanted to be able to protect myself." He said before he charged at her, attempting to kick her torso. She moved to her side and fired her fist towards his torso but he managed to hit her chest, sending her a few steps back.
She quickly recovered, blocking his incoming attack. His fist came towards her shoulder, which she pushed to the side with her arm.
They froze for a moment. Their faces close to each other that their noses touched. His breath mingled on her face and his eyes gazed at her.
Elektra realized that she was standing in a good position. One of her legs was in between his feet and her arm and hand were blocking any further attack from his hands.
Seeing that Blake somehow was distracted, she lifted her foot that was in between his legs and kicked the back of his knee. Blake's balance faltered as he fall to the ground, however, bringing her along with him.
She groaned, opening her eyes to find that she was on top of him.
"Are you okay?" She asked, slightly smiling.
"Just dandy." Blake replied, chuckling. His face was close to hers that she could his eyes dancing with happiness.
"I have to admit, I was surprised. I didn't know you were skilful at fighting." Elektra said.
"Wait till you see my ninja costume. You will be surprised."
She laughed, her eyes locked with his. "Well, I'm sure it adds the hotness."
"Now you know how I think of you when you fight monsters." He replied.
They laughed and their eyes met once more. Slowly, their laughter died and it seemed as if time had frozen and that they were - once again, the only two people in the world.
"I never told you this before...your eyes are exquisite." He whispered, holding a lock of her hair in his fingers before placing it behind her ear.
She couldn't help but smile at his words. She leaned forward and placed a loving and lingering kiss on his forehead. As their faces were inches away from each other, she traced his face with her fingers, mesmerizing every curve and inch of it. She may never get the chance to do this again. She wanted to remember and death wouldn't be too painful.
"Ela, have you-Oh no, bad timing!"
Henry's interruption broke them apart. She groaned before getting off Blake, handing out her hand for him to take.
"What is it?" She asked while she pulled Blake up. Her face was red with embarrassment, which added fuel towards Henry's amusement.
"I was looking for Angela. Have you seen her?" He asked, as he stepped into the lair through the main door.
"I haven't. Why?" She asked, raising her eyebrow slightly.
The embarrassment shifted towards Henry. He hung his head low, staring at the marble floor while he combed his hair with his fingers. "Just wondering. Need to ask her about...stuff."
Chuckling, she gave him a nod and a look, which made Henry even more embarrassed. "I think she went to the store. Not sure which one. I'll tell you if I see her."
"Okay." Henry nodded, before turning around and left the lair.
She stared at the door, slightly confused and amused.
"Well, that was weird." Blake spoke. "I swear...he has the worse timing ever."
She turned to him, grabbing his hand. "Why? Were you going to do anything just now?" She asked, raising her eyebrow at him.
Blake's lips curved into a smirk. "I was loving the moment. Do you have any better suggestions?"
"Pervert." She muttered, rolling her eyes with a smile playing on her lips as she led him to the glass tube, with him laughing behind her.
**********************
Tonight was the night. It is the battle of the world she fought to defend. Her fate had been sealed the moment she took over this duty. She knew her future would not be like others. She wasn't normal. It bugged her before but she realized this was her destiny. This was who she was. The Protector. The descendant of king Arthur but at the same time, she was Elektra Potter.
She debated who she was for years. She didn't know if the person she was when she fought monsters and the person who goes to school and takes good care of her sister were the same. However, she realized that Elektra Potter and the Protector were one person. They both care about this world and protecting the people that she loves and she would do anything to keep them safe.
She woke up early today and went down to the lair to get everything ready. She checked all the weapons that were going to be used, refill the bullets and trained for about two hours to be prepared for tonight.
Her sister was upstairs playing with Kate, Blake's sister whom Blake brought over to her house. Blake was here as well. He was upstairs with Chelsea, looking after the kids and preparing lunch for all them.
It was as if nothing big was happening tonight. They were living their normal lives.
However, they all had worries but worries never solved anything. It was better to put them aside and focus on what was happening, the moment that they were living right then. The least they could do before tonight was have a wonderful normal day with the people they loved the most in this world.
Elektra lifted her sword that she just had cleaned and stared at it. The sword shone and she saw the reflection of her face. The sword begotten by the great dragon's breath, her weapon that had accompanied her through every fight.
"We can win." She whispered to the sword.
The sound of the lift moving averted her attention from her sword. Her face lit up when she saw him walking towards her.
"Hi." He said, placing a soft kiss on the top of her head as he sat next to her.
"Hi." She greeted with a smile.
"How are you?"
The look he had on his face when asked that question got her melancholy. "I'm fine. We talked about this."
"I know, but I can't help but worry." He said sorrowfully.
Their attention shifted to main door opening and found Luke and Alfred walking into the lair, rushing towards her with sombre expression on their faces.
She frowned and panic started to fill her. Her brain started to fill with questions she hoped she didn't have to answer.
"Alfred, Luke, what is it?" She asked.
They stopped in front of her and looked at each other before Luke broke the news to her. "One of my pack members was attacked."
Elektra's hands both turned into fists. That was not right. For the whole past two weeks, there had been no attack and no sight of Magnus' followers. The nights had been quiet. She looked everywhere and found that none of them were in sight. Soon, she realized that there would not be any attack until the great fight.
She knew that Magnus had found out that she knew about his plans. Magnus was a smart man. He would notice Craig's, the hunter that betrayed Elektra's trust, dead body in the cabin and soon, figured everything out. He would then planned his strategy and stop his troupes from leaving the place that they were hiding to avoid his followers getting killed.
That was what she assumed and the news wavered her assumptions.
"What happened? Is he alright?"
Alfred shook his head sadly. "He's dead. We found him a few miles away from the pack house. He called for help through the link...but we couldn't reach there in time."
Dread filled her and worries succumbed her. Her fists clenched tighter. She felt Blake's hand grabbing hers, giving it a gentle squeeze.
"It was one of Magnus' men." Luke said. "It was a werewolf. A rouge...but what disturbing about this is the way..." Luke stopped. His eyes filled with sadness and fear as he took in a breath before continuing. "...The way he died. He was torn into pieces." He whispered.
Colour left Elektra's face and in that moment, she became terrified of what was going to happen tonight and all this uncertainty started to fill her mind.
"But that's...that's not possible. It was just a rouge." She said softly.
Seeing the need to comfort, Alfred placed a hand on her shoulder. "It is possible if the rouge had taken the drug. This is not a prototype anymore. This is the real and improved drug."
She lifted her head to look at Alfred, who was looking at her with worry and dread in his eyes. "Elektra, this is just one rouge. If the whole army is taking the drug...we have zero chance on winning." He said.
Her breath shortened at Alfred's words and she found herself squeezing Blake's hand tightly. They were doomed. She wasn't going to win. She and her army were going to die. The world would be ruined.
Just like  glass, her hopes shattered into pieces, cutting her skin deeply.
"I-I...god..." She wanted to speak. She wanted to give ideas but she had none. Everything just died.
"Elektra." Luke called. She looked at him and saw the determination burning in his eyes. "I will still fight and I'm sure my pack will fight with you as well. When we walk on the field in front of the Conrad building, we will fight till death stops us."
She felt as if the cold wind had struck her face. Her eyes were wide and the look on his face seemed as if she had saw a ghost.
"I am so so stupid. How could I have not see this?!" She exclaimed angrily, pinching the bridge of her nose with frustration.
She released a heavy breath, closing her eyes for a moment before explaining to the confused people around her.
"Blake, what's your father's business?" She asked.
Blake looked surprised and confused but answered her. "He's in the medicine industry, like I've told you before-"
Realization suddenly hit their faces. Blake went slightly pale after grasping the fact. "You don't think he's involved with this do you?"
"I'm not sure..." She answered. "But I doubt it. Magnus is smart. He wouldn't need any cooperation with humans to get what he wants."
Blake's eyes went wide before he closed them, groaning in despair. "That would explain the missing chemicals and meds."
Elektra recalled the day Blake barging through her window one night. He didn't say anything as he entered her room but hugged her tightly. He then explained to her that he had a horrible day at the office. There were chemicals and medicines missing from their stock and it sent his father fuming. They never found out who stole it and they never released the news towards the media since his father didn't want the company's name to be damaged.
Well, now they knew who did it.
"You think that maybe that's where he's hiding?" Luke asked, with his brows furrowed together.
"I'm not sure...but I'm pretty sure that's where he did the drugs."
"But the drug is complex. They need colossaletruicear, which is a very rare plant." Alfred issued.
"We have that since we cooperating with the government. They allowed it." Blake replied solemnly.
Elektra sighed. She felt a great headache coming and her heart had been beating too loud and too fast. "Why didn't I realize this sooner?" She whispered.
Luke gave her a comforting look and said, " Elektra, we all over seen it. Wait...Magnus are meeting his army in front of the Conrad building, right? This means that he hasn't given everyone the drug yet. Yesterday maybe was a test to see how it works. He may have not given them yet and planned to give them tonight when the full moon comes out since that's when the creatures are the strongest."
"How can you be so sure?"
"I'm not...but I have faith that he still hasn't given them yet. If he hasn't, we may be able to destroy the drug and win this war." Luke said with a wide smile.
"Do we even have time?" Elektra asked. "We can't go to the building now since there are still people there. "
"There is." Alfred jumped in the conversation. "He picked this night, this midnight for reasons. One, because of the full moon and the other one is because this midnight is the day of makt vrÄjitorie, the day where the ones with magic are at their best."
"He's a coward." Luke snickered.
"But he's smart." Elektra said.
"But don't you see, Ela...he's scared of you. He wouldn't pick the day where he's at best if he knew he could defeat you. He's scared of failing."
Alfred nodded in agreement. "Aside from that, we can make it to the building after the working hours ended and find the drugs." He asked.
"You need access if you're going to enter that building." Blake chimed in.
Elektra could already see where this was going. She shook her head furiously and gave him a fretful look. "No. You're not coming. We can find another way-"
"Ela, please. You need me to do this. They have a tight security there. I don't know how Magnus got in and I assumed it that he had an ally. We have to go through a biometric system to enter every room in that building. You need me. Please, Ela."
Elektra bit her lip in frustration. It sounded so tempting but she just couldn't risk his life. It was dangerous task. Magnus and his followers might be there. He meant the world to her and she just couldn't lose him.
"I can't. I just-"
"Hey, look at me." He cut her off. Placing a finger underneath her chin, he tilled her head so that her eyes met his. "I'll be fine. I have you. Henry and Angela will be there as well. Everything will be fine. You just have to trust me."
She trusted him. She always does. With that, she felt her determination faltered and she couldn't help but to agree to it.
Slowly, she nodded almost as if it was painful for her to do so. Blake smiled widely before hugging her tightly.
"Thank you." He whispered.
"Just stay by my side the whole time." She replied as she pulled away.
"Got it, captain." He smiled cheekily.
Just when she thought everything was collapsing, she found hope again and maybe, just maybe, they could win this war.
