Chapter 1006
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
The man smiled, speaking in a knowing voice. âYou were reckless. Youâre not Seraphina. She hates Renee too much to ever say anything good about her. Let me take a guess as to who you areâ¦â
Stefan furrowed his eyebrows, falling into deep thought. âAre you Cecilia? Or Charlotte? Or are you Shirleyâ¦â
âOh, I know. You must be Layla, the new caretaker my mother hired because Iâve never heard of your voice before!â
Renee was initially consumed by sorrow, with her tears falling down like pouring rain. However, the manâs questions made her roll her eyes instead.
âHow unexpected, Stefan Hunt, you had more women in line apart from Desrosiers and Murphy?â
âThatâs four other women that youâve just guessed! You even assumed Iâd be the caretaker youâve never even met! What about me?!â
âIs he really still in love with me, or is he just faking it?â
Noticing that the woman wasnât replying, Stefan continued. âWhoever you are, I just know youâre not Renee. Else why would she not dare to face me when sheâs sitting right beside me? Why would she care for me but not dare to give me even a single hug?â
âThatâs not her style.â
Renee was stunned, watching Stefan silently.
âBut if you really are Renee, hug me. I said Iâm willing to forgive you no matter what, right?â Stefan opened up his arms, holding onto the last bit of hope in his mind, waiting for the womanâs embrace.
Although he was blind, he was not stupid. He could tell that this woman was imitating Seraphinaâs voice on purpose. However, he just wasnât sure if she was Renee.
Hence, he went against his usual behavior and rambled on, hoping to help relieve her mental weight so that sheâd reunite with him.
He waited for such a long time to the point he found himself acting too desperately as well, and yet the woman still wasnât doing anything.
âI knew it. Youâre disgusted by me. I am blind, and I canât even take care of my basic necessities on my own. I donât deserve you anymore.â Stefan laughed at himself with his arms still open, waiting for her regardless.
He thought to himself, âThis is the last chance Iâm giving her.â
âI can throw my dignity away and forgive her for her faults. All I want is a simple life with her.â
Renee covered her mouth, staring back at the sad lonely man. She didnât dare to utter a sound, sobbing quietly instead.
She told herself over and over again that she must not give in. That was because she made a deal with the gods. She had to leave him in order for him to be safe.
She just didnât want to risk anything after he barely survived what she put him through.
âGoodbye, Stefan. The only thing I can do for you now⦠is stay away from you.â Renee spoke in her mind, exiting the backyard without alerting anyone.
She was worried that she might change her mind if she had stayed any longer. She knew that it would only hurt the both of them if she broke her promise.
At the very same time, Stefan felt a soft fragrant body leaping into his arms. He hugged the person tightly, surprised. âAre you finally willing to face me now, Renee?â
