Joanne clenched her fists so tightly that her long fingernails dug deep into her palms. “It depends on who the angel meets. If an angel meets another angel, then it’ll be heaven. But if the angel meets a demon, it’ll go to hell… He was the one who sent me there!”

“Miss, you… Wait a minute…” Renee’s mind was a mess. Feeling bewildered, she asked Joanne in confusion, “You betrayed him and stabbed him, but you also said that he was a demon who pulled you down to hell… Is that right?”

“Yes, that’s right.” Joanne nodded vigorously, unashamed of what she had done.

“Well, you’re being unreasonable. How can you shift the blame to him?” Renee argued.

“What do you know? No one knows about my past with him, so none of you know how he dragged me to hell.”

“Do you mind telling me then? It seems like both of you are troubled by something… maybe I can help?” Renee felt that the woman she had heard about was not that unreasonable and ruthless. There had to be some kind of misunderstanding.

“Who the hell are you? Why should I tell you my secret?” Joanne narrowed her eyes at Renee. Ever since Renee mentioned Quinton, she had been suspicious of her.

“I’m…” At first, Renee wanted to say that she was Quinton’s sister, but after seeing how much Joanne hated him, that seemed like a bad idea. “I’m Liam’s girlfriend. I’m here to save you, so I need you to trust me. Tell me your story.”

“Liam’s girlfriend?” Joanne sat up straight and tried to see Renee’s face in the dim light. She sounded very envious. “So, you’re the first love that Liam yearned for. I wonder how charming you are to make a man love you so deeply. Unfortunately, we’re in the dungeon, so I can’t really see you…”

“Ah…” Renee touched her hair awkwardly, secretly cursing Liam and how talkative he was.

Why did he tell everyone his story? So much for wanting to travel the world-it felt more like he just wanted to go around and tell people about his love life!

“Yeah, it’s not easy to be with him. When he came back, he told me that it was because of your help that he was able to escape from the red-light district, and decided to become a committed man. So, he won’t stand by and do nothing either since you’re in trouble now.’

“I know that he’s a loyal friend. He managed to leave this fort back then by paying a heavy price…” Joanne heaved a long sigh and shook her head.” He’s so silly. How dumb! He shouldn’t have come back just to save me… A person like me doesn’t deserve such kindness.”

“Don’t say that! I believe that you’re an angel. You might have made a mistake, but I’m sure you have your reasons. I’ll try to take you back to Beach City so you can talk it out with Night Demon and resolve the issue between the both of you,” Renee said quickly, becoming slightly impatient.

This made Joanne doubtful. She frowned and said, “You claim that you’re Liam’s girlfriend, but you can’t stop bringing up my brother. What’s your relationship with him?”

“I… I am…” Renee did not know if she should tell the truth.

“It’s okay, I don’t really care. I don’t want to have anything to do with him. What’s more, I won’t leave this place. I’m as good as dead.” After that, Joanne closed her eyes and leaned against the wall in despair.
