Chapter 1204
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
Benjamin waved his hand and snarled, âOkay, I give up. Iâll grant your wish.â
Amber opened her watery eyes. Smiling, she said, âDad, I knew you werenât that cruelâ¦â
âDonât get cocky. Iâll let them go⦠on one condition.â Benjamin stared at Liam fiercely, then sneered, âMy daughterâs willing to give up her life for you. Itâs obvious that she loves you very much, so I want you to promise to stay and marry her. If not, all of you canât leave the fort.â
Hearing that, Amberâs face turned red and she protested, âDad, you⦠Donât be like this. A marriage will only be happy if both parties love each other. You canât force people to marry like this!â
Benjamin ignored Amber and stared at Liam intently. âWhat do you think? Are you willing to marry my daughter?â
âIâ¦â Frowning deeply, Liam looked conflicted and hesitant. His heart belonged to someone else, so naturally, he was unwilling to marry a woman he did not love. However, he was also afraid that he, Renee, and Joanne would end up miserably if he did not do so.
âNo!â Renee held Joanne up as she walked out of the room. She looked at Benjamin angrily. âDo you think theyâll be happy in a forced marriage? Is this really necessary?â
âThey wonât be happy, but it will satisfy my daughter. Thus, itâs necessary.â Benjamin looked at Liam and looked pleased. âLetâs forget about what happened. I like this kid, and Iâll be happy if he can be my son-in-law even if he canât be my son. A wife in exchange for two livesâitâs a good bargain. If youâre still unwilling, donât blame me for being inconsiderate.â
Liam glanced at Joanne, whose lips had turned pale. He then urged Renee, âBoss, donât oppose him. Hurry up and leave with Joanne. Itâll be too late if you donât rush her to a hospital for immediate treatment. Weâll lose our choices by then.â
âNo, I canât leave you here alone. We must leave or die together!â
âThereâs no need for such unnecessary loyalty. I just need to stay and be his son-in-law, which isnât a bad option. Whatâs more, Amber is a charming young woman; itâs not a loss for me if I marry her. If you donât go, Benjamin may regain his wits and go back on his word,â
Liam said softly, trying to urge Renee to leave.
âBut you donât love this lady. Youâ¦â
âWell, I canât even marry the one I love. What if I fall for her one day? It may be a blessing in disguise for me then.â
âYouâ¦â For a moment, Renee did not know how to argue. Liam was giving up his future and love life, but he sounded like he had won the lottery. Liam always pretended to be optimistic so she didnât worry.
He would then suffer the sadness and grief alone.
Renee felt that she had wronged Liam deeply. He was always the one sacrificing for her, and she just sat back and enjoyed it.
âDonât hesitate, thereâs no time. Donât worry, Iâll be fine. My future wife wonât let anything happen to me eitherâ¦â
Liamâs words brought a blush to Amberâs cheeks. She braced herself and said to Renee, âMiss, [you should leave with Joanne. I promise that Iâll protect Liam well.â âWell⦠Okay.â
Renee scowled unhappily. She was left with no options.
Liam, hold on. Iâll come back and save you.â
