Chapter 121
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
Old Mr. Hunt remained silent for a long time after watching Reneeâs press conference. He seemed to be deep in thought.
âNow, Grandpa will finally understand that it takes two to tango,â Stefan thought in relief.
Truthfully, he didnât love Renee, and he certainly had done things to hurt her. In his defense though, Renee didnât love him either. While he and Briar pretended to be close, Renee and Liam had genuine feelings for each other. They were even prepared to have children.
Thatâs why both of them had agreed to the divorce. How could she make him the sole scapegoat?
âGrandpa, as youâve just seen, this woman wanted nothing more than to divorce me. That way, she can officially be with Liam. Otherwise, she wouldnât be so eager to make a public announcement that weâre divorced. Sheâs not as innocent as you think she is. Everyoneâs just fooled by her appearance!â Stefan couldnât hide the anger in his voice.
Old Mr. Hunt looked away from the television and turned to face Stefan with a frown. âIs that how you perceive it? Hmph, that explains why you always did badly in languages. Your comprehension is terrible!â
Stefan looked at his grandfather in confusion. âHow do you perceive it?â
âIdiot!â Old Mr. Hunt punched Stefan in the back. âDo you even have to ask? Ren obviously wants to get back with you!â
Stefan sighed, beyond the point of caring if it would make his grandfather upset. âIâm sorry, but I really couldnât tell.â
âOf course you couldnât⦠Thatâs because youâre blind!â
Grandpa adjusted his glasses, rewinded the video to a specific scene, then pointed at the subtitles below it. He began to explain as if he was conducting scientific research. âLook here. The main point is⦠Ren said sheâs grateful for having known you for the past four years. Do you know what this means?â
âWhat does it mean?â Stefan had to will himself to not be sarcastic.
âIt means she still has feelings for you. Sheâs hinting that she wants to get back together with you!â
Stefan wasnât sure whether he should feel angry or laugh at how confident Grandpa was. While it was true that he wasnât too good at reading between the lines, there was no way one could relate âthankful for having met someoneâ to âwanting to get back together with someoneâ.
She was clearly saying that to placate the outsiders. How could it possibly mean that she wanted to get back with him?
donât âI donât care! Ren has already made it very clear. If you donât do something about it, you have the right to call yourself a man. Stop yapping and get to it!â Grandpa barked orders at Stefan like a commander.
Stefan replied helplessly, âGrandpa, I know you want us to stay together, but itâs impossible. Stop trying to interfere.â
âHow am I interfering? Iâm only speaking from experience. You two are clearly in love with each other, but youâre both too stubborn to do anything about it!â
Grandpa knew how stubborn Stefan could be. He normally kept his feelings to himself, and rarely showed his emotions. However, when he had talked about Renee earlier, Stefan got very emotional. It was impossible that he didnât have feelings for her!
Forget it. If Grandpa had to wait for Stefan to realize his mistake, his granddaughter-in-law would be long gone by the time it happened. He had to step in to save the day!
Grandpa coughed softly before speaking. âI donât care. You disobeyed me, and you deserve to be punished. However, I wonât punish you physically today. Stay for dinner, and Iâll let you off the hook.â
âThatâs all?â Stefan thought in disbelief. He suspected it wouldnât be so simple, but he didnât ask anything further. Grandpa could do whatever he wanted to do as long as he didnât force Stefan to marry Renee again.
However, Stefan would soon realize that the old man was indeed a cunning old fox. Stefan never wouldâve guessed that he could be so mercilessâ¦
