Chapter 1398
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
âYeah, what do you mean âalmost in our thirtiesâ? Ren and I are forever eighteen, okay?â Leia declared, ready to start a fight with Quinton.
Seeing the two girls gang up on him, Quinton immediately gave in and put his hands up in surrender. âOkay, I was wrong. Both of you will always be eighteen, at least to me⦠No, itâs too much. At most, one of you is three and the other is five.â
Blinking, Leia asked, âWho is three and who is five?â
Both Renee and Quinton smiled at each other, and Quinton chuckled. âIsnât it obvious?â
Renee groaned, âAh, now that I think about it⦠What if someone bullies you during filming?â
âBullies me?â Clenching her fists, Leia said confidently âHah! Theyâll be lucky if I donât bully them!â
âGood. Donât forget to practice the self-defense skills I taught you.â Renee felt like a mother sending her sheltered daughter off to college.
âDonât worry, bestie. Iâm just going to shoot a show, Iâm not going to war. Iâll be fine.â After chatting with Renee a while longer, Leia eventually left to pack her luggage.
Quinton was left alone with Renee in the ward, and he sighed. Finally, he said solemnly, âIâll be frank with you, Renee. Iâm here to say goodbye too.â
Renee looked at him with an anxious frown. âWhere are you going, Quinton?â
âI told you that Chase has gone missing, and I just canât let it go. Iâve got to do something about it.â
Quinton had been thinking about Chase. There was a high possibility that he had drowned at sea, but even if that was the case, Quinton at least wanted to find his body. He had to know for sure.
âYeah, youâre right. Chase was always loyal to you, and itâs normal to be worried but⦠youâve just recovered.â Renee looked at her brother in concern.
âThereâs nothing to worry about-l know what Iâm doing. He might have encountered some pirates, and theyâd probably let him go if I offered them money. Itâs no big deal,â Quinton said confidently.
âI know youâve made up your mind, but please be careful and contact me if anything happens. I might not be a big shot, but Iâve got some connections and means too. I can help you.â
âOkay.â Touching Reneeâs head, Quinton smiled and said, âIâll rely on my sister then.â
As the days passed, both Quinton and Leia left, making Reneeâs ward feel quite empty. It made Renee feel miserable. Luckily, Margaret would bring Adie and Abby there to spend time with Renee after the children got back from school. Occasionally, Justin would also drop by to see Renee after work. When people visited, Renee didnât feel so lonely, but today⦠she felt like something was off, as if someone was secretly watching her. She didnât know if it was true or if she was just being paranoid.
âMiss, did anyone⦠come to see me today?â Renee hesitantly asked the nurse who came to change her IV drip.
