Chapter 1486
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
Adie helped Renee to the master bedroom upstairs and tucked her into bed. He even poured a glass of water for her and placed it on the bedside cabinet. âThereâs water on the bedside cabinet, Mommy. You can drink it if youâre thirsty,â Adie said considerately.
âThank you, Adie. You and Abby are my eyes, so⦠Iâm not afraid. In fact, I feel relaxed and happier.
Although I canât see with my eyes, I can see with my heart!â Renee said and smiled sincerely. Yes, her pain for losing her sight was real, but her childrenâs love for her was real too, and it filled her with happiness. She wouldnât know how warm her children were if something like this didnât happen. They were no longer merely kids under her careâthey could be independent, and they could even take care of her when she needed it.
âRest early, Mommy. Donât worry, I wonât let you be blind for long. Iâll come up with ways to make you see again,â Adie promised firmly, clenching his fists.
âJust let things run its course. Of course, I would love to be able to see again, but if I canât, Iâm still happy with how things are.â Renee told herself not to be greedy because she still had a lot of things. Besides, nothing was perfect, and imperfection was always the unchanged law of nature.
Renee felt that she was luckier than a lot of people since she had two dear children, and she should learn to be grateful.
âBy the way, Adie⦠you went to your daddy tonight. Howâs he doing?â Renee finally asked the question she wanted. She remembered that they had given each other blessings before they parted ways, and he had been about to get surgery too. She wondered if the surgery had gone smoothly.
Adie hung his head and confessed, âHeâs pretty good, and his surgery was just over when I went to him. It looked like he had just woken up, and he remembered who I was.â
âHe⦠remembered you?â Reneeâs heart began fluttering.
âYeah, he remembered who you were too. He promised me to come and see you once heâs recovered.â
âNo!â Renee blurted out, overwhelmed by fear. She said sternly, âListen to me, Adie-donât let him come here. Weâre already separated, and I donât want to see him again.â
âYou donât want to see him again? Why do I feel like you wish to see him but you just donât have the guts?â Adie said doubtfully, studying Reneeâs expression closely.
Renee averted her gaze guiltily. âWhat⦠What do you mean? Itâs not that, I just donât want to see him.â
âYou donât want to let him see you this way because youâre blind. Youâre afraid that heâll think badly of you, right?â
âNo, thatâs not it!â Renee clenched her fists and explained, âIt has nothing to do with my blindness; I just donât want to see him. My decision wouldnât change even if I could see.â
âJust keep lying to yourself, Mommy. Anyway, Iâve made a deal with him, and heâll come and see you. You can tell him yourself thenâ¦â Adie shrugged and said helplessly.
