Chapter 1489
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
âWeâre evenâ¦â Stefan stared at Renee, and his voice shook as he said, âDoes that mean we can start over?â
Reneeâs heart skipped a beat, and for a moment, she was thrown off guard. âStop messing around.
Itâs not funny.â She never felt that they could start over. After all, many things had happened, and they were already heartbroken. If they started over, they would go down the same path and get hurt again.
âYeah, I was just joking. If you donât think itâs funny, Iâll stop.â Taking a deep breath, Stefan moved closer to Renee and suggested calmly, âIt doesnât mean that we have to be lovers or married if we start over⦠but I think we can restart our relationship. As for our future, we can wait and see what destiny holds for us. Maybe weâll be good competitors or friends, but if nothing else⦠youâre the mother of my children. We can be good partners. What do you think?â
Stefanâs words calmed Reneeâs tension for some reason. She swallowed and asked, âDo you really think so? Or⦠do you want to snatch the kids away from me?â Legally, it would be a piece of cake if the Hunt family wanted to snatch the childrenâs custody from her because she couldnât even take care of herself now.
âNo, the kids belong to us, and weâre not rivals. I donât care if theyâre with you or me-as long as theyâre happy.â Stefan smiled and said teasingly, âYou can have custody of me too.â
Renee couldnât help but laugh. âAre you out of your mind?â
Reneeâs laughter made Stefan grin too. âAs you know, my brainâs a bit messed up. Itâs still healing, so I hope you wonât be too hard on me.â
âWell, I wonât hate you, and you can do whatever you want as long as you donât plot schemes, take away my kids, or target my brother.â Reneeâs tone was friendly, but her boundaries were clear. She had spent the last few days worrying about future attacks on her family, and she was exhausted.
Now that she was blind, she couldnât do much. She wouldnât target others if they left her be.
âOkay, you have my word,â Stefan promised firmly. Frankly, he didnât plan to plot schemes or fight against Quinton even if he hadnât recovered his memories. If he had such intentions, he wouldnât have gone all out to ask Owen to save Quinton. Besides, he had regained his memories now, and all he wanted to do was adore Renee. There was no way heâd do anything to harm her.
âOkay. Umm⦠can you go now?â Renee trusted Stefan, and felt like the past grudges between them were now gone. However, she still didnât know how to act around him.
âGo?â Stefan casually pulled a stool over, sat down next to Reneeâs bean bag and said righteously, âIâm not going anywhere.â
Renee frowned. âWhat?â
âAdie and Abby are here, and Iâm their father. Plus, you made me promise not to take them, soâ¦
Iâm not going. I want to live with my kids,â Stefan said reasonably, carefully leaving out that he wanted to be where Renee was too.
âNo, Stefan. Why are you being so shameless?â Renee groaned.
âWhatâs the big deal? This manor is so large, and Iâm sure thereâs an empty room I can stay in. Iâll stay here and work for you. Iâll take care of the kids and help them with their homework. Youâve got nothing to lose, right?â
âWell, youâre not wrongâ¦â
