Chapter 176
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
Renee realized she was the only one who felt awkward. Stefan seemed comfortable and acted as free as he was at home. It profoundly interpreted the quote. âItâs only embarrassing if you care what people think.â
Earlier, Charles Hanns smashed the stuff in the entire living room and made a terrible mess. Only the sofa area seemed to be untouched.
Stefan sat gracefully on the couch and crossed his legs. He asked Renee, âHow are you? Have you gotten used to your new place?â
âWhat do you think? This is my home. Why canât I get comfortable here?â
Renee looked around and flashed a meek smile. âIâm finally home after four years of wandering. I have to say, home sweet home!â
Stefanâs eyes turned slightly gloomy. He said quietly. âAs you said, you have half of the property rights to Hunt Villa. If you want to go back, you can move anytime. Itâs your home.â
Renee almost thought she had misheard Stefan. The kind look on her face vanished, replaced by disdain.
âStefan, arenât you being a hypocrite? Remember when you made me move out overnight to make room for Desrosiers? Thatâs not what you said at the time.â
A manâs delayed affection was simply worthless. Besides, Stefan was not actually in love with her. He needed her help.
Renee knew why Stefan came to her, but she kept quiet and refused to discuss it. She did not want to give him what he wanted!
âI was wrong before. I didnât expect Briar to be so unreasonable,â Stefan said, his disgust visible in his eyes. Thinking back, he did not have a good impression of Briar during their first meeting. She looked soft and harmless, though her complex eyes said otherwise. They seemed to be filled with cunning thoughts.
Unlike Briar, Reneeâs pair of bright and clear eyes looked as pure as the water of a mountain spring amid a quiet valley.
Stefan had to admit. He often felt that fluttering in his chest whenever he looked into Reneeâs eyes.
âI didnât know she would ruin Hunt Villa like this. If I had known, I wouldnât have allowed her to step foot in it.â
Stefan rarely stayed in Hunt Villa, but he loved the sunflowers in the garden. However, the sunflowers were all gone, replaced by a field of boring roses.
It was not only the sunflower. All traces of Reneeâs presence were gone, which made him inexplicably uncomfortable.
âAh. So what?â
Renee no longer had the patience to waste time with Stefan. She directly exposed his intention and said coldly, âYou know your lover is terrible. Even so, you still came for her, begging for my mercy.â
âArenât you the proud and almighty Mr. Hunt? Why did you come to me? Would you lick your exâwifeâs boot for a woman like her? Isnât that true love?â
Surprised by Reneeâs intelligence, Stefan let out a long sigh. âYeah. Iâm here for Briar today.â
After a short pause, he said directly. âSheâs still in the hospital because sheâs still in shock. I want you to drop the case.â
âI knew it!â Renee thought. Stefan was only here for Briar. Somehow, her heart still ached a little at this realization.
Renee took a deep breath. âShe stole and destroyed my belongings. The evidence is all there. Why should I drop the case?â
With Stefanâs status, he could easily get Briar out of trouble. But, unfortunately, the ruthless Renee decided to send her lawyer, Zack Rosenwell. His law firm filed a suit, leaving Stefan no time to react.
Even if Stefan had the power, he could not openly defy the law. The only way to resolve this was to get Renee to drop the case.
or Briar might very well end up in jail if the court so decided!
Stefanâs patience was gone. He looked annoyed. âTell me. What do I have to do to make you let her go?â
