Chapter 304
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
âYour daughter-in-law?â
A playful expression crept onto Hazeâs handsome face.
So the well-dressed woman in front of him was Francine Milford, Reneeâs former mother-in-law.
âAs far as I know, Miss Everheart is currently single. Itâs a bit inappropriate for you to claim to be her mother-in-law like this.â
âWhat do you know?â
Francine raised her chin high and said, âIf sheâs my daughter-in-law for a day, sheâs my daughter-in-law for a lifetime. Until the day she remarries, no one can replace my position as the âmother-in-lawâ.â
Haze put his hands in his pockets and chuckled. âIn that case, Iâm afraid youâll be disappointed. Iâm actually here to take Miss Everheart to meet my parents. If everything goes well, sheâll have a new mother-in-law soon.â
Francine already had an impending sense of crisis before this, but after hearing what Haze said, the sense of crisis became even stronger. She immediately interrogated him, âWho are you? Who are your parents? Whatâs your relationship with Renee?â
Before Haze could answer, she added confidently, âDo you know how much Renee loves my son? Do you know how much she yearns to be Mrs. Hunt again? Itâs only a matter of time before she remarries my son. Thereâs no way she would go meet your parents with you.â
âOh, really?â
Haze raised his eyebrows and smiled even wider. âShould we go ask her right now how much she loves your son and how much she yearns to be Mrs. Hunt again?â
âAhem!â
Francine immediately pursed her lips and said, somewhat guiltily, âThereâs no need forthat. Letâs wait and see what happens.â
If they really were to go ask Renee now, Francineâs lie would be exposed for sure. She would never do such a humiliating thing!
âAnyway, I advise you not to waste your time. Her ex-husband is Stefan Hunt. Thereâs no way she would fall for a nobody!â
Haze was not upset. Instead, he said cheerfully, âLike you said, letâs wait and see what happens!â
After leaving the Hunt Villa, Francine rushed to the headquarters of H Group.
When the employees saw her, they knew trouble was coming. They quickly immersed themselves in their work and tried to keep a low profile.
âWhereâs my son? I want to see him right away!â
Francine went all the way to the CEOâs office on the top floor, slammed the table and asked the secretary.
âMiss Francine, the CEO is in an executive meeting. Why donât you wait for him in the lounge? Iâll make you a cup of tea.â
âNo! This canât wait!â
Without saying another word, Francine headed straight for the meeting room and pushed open the door. âSon, this is urgent. Get out of there. I need to tell you something!â
Stefan was sitting tall and imposing in the center like a king. He frowned when he saw his mother. âIâm in a meeting. Whatever you want to tell me, it can wait.â
Francine rushed in impatiently and said, âWho cares about the meeting? Youâre about to lose your wife!
You need to act now!â
âWow!â
As soon as she said that, dozens of H Groupâs executive members exclaimed in surprise under their breaths, unable to maintain their solemn and serious expression any longer. They were eagerly waiting to hear more of the gossip.
After all, the H Group was, without a doubt, the place that contained the highest number of âstansâ of the âRenee-Stefan shipâ.
Stefan rubbed his temples. He wished he could dig a hole and jump into it.
He got up and, while walking out of the meeting room, told Francine in low voice, âWeâll talk in my office.â
Francine nodded with satisfaction and said, âThatâs more like it!â
After they left, the senior executives of H Group immediately discussed with each other what just happened.
âI knew it, our CEO hasnât moved on from his wife. Heâs gonna win her back now!â
â I bet 100,000 dollars that Renee and Stefan will get back together!â âIâm not optimistic. The CEOâs wife looks like the kind of person who wouldnât look back. I bet 500,000 dollars that itâs over for them!â
â100,000 dollars on reconciliation!â
