Chapter 524
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
âSilly child, I couldnât possibly get angry at you. If I were to get angry at anyone, itâd be my troublesome grandsonâ¦â Grandpa Hunt huffed in annoyance. âHis wife went missing for so many years, and yet he couldnât even find her. What an embarrassment!â
From the way Grandpa Hunt criticized Stefan, Renee figured that he probably hadnât found out about Stefanâs death yet. âGrandpa, have you⦠heard about anything major recently?â
âLike what?â Grandpa Hunt smiled sadly. âAre you referring to my useless, dead grandson or the fact that H Group will soon be transferred to someone else?â
âAhhâ¦â Renee looked down with an awkward expression on her face. It seemed that Grandpa Hunt knew about everything.
If that was the case, why did he seem so calm?
Grandpa Hunt could tell that Renee was confused. He sighed softly and said, âIâm getting old, and a lot of things are out of my control now.
Everyone has their own fate thatâs been decided by God. Even if we find something thatâs hard to accept, we have no choice but to accept it.â
Renee had initially planned to ask Grandpa Hunt about whether he knew what really happened when Tristan was shot. However, asking this now would be like rubbing salt into a wound, and she couldnât bring herself to ask him.
âMy dear child, youâve been away for so many years. How have you been doing?â Grandpa Hunt asked curiously and looked Renee up and down.
âI spent a couple of years abroad, Grandpa. Itâs been good.â Renee nodded slowly.
âI can tell youâve been doing well â youâve gotten a lot fairer. Since your marriage to Stefan left you with a lot of unhappy memories, you really did make a good choice by getting divorced.â
The old man let out another long sigh. âUnfortunately, you werenât able to give birth to a child despite being married for four years. There are no grandchildren for me to missâ¦â
Grandpa Huntâs eyes lit up suddenly, and he stared at Renee. âThere are no outsiders here, so you can tell me the truth, Renee. Do you still have feelings for Stefan? If he was alive, would you consider remarrying him and having children with him?â
âThatâs impossible!â Renee answered decisively.
âI wonât change my mind once Iâve decided something. I admit that I loved him back then, so much so that I got badly hurt by him. However, Iâve learned my lesson, and wonât repeat the same mistake,â she added.
âNow that heâs gone, do you feel sad? Do you miss him?â Grandpa Hunt asked.
Renee couldnât bring herself to lie. She couldnât stop herself from missing him, and she couldnât get him out of her mind. Hence, she just kept quiet.
âAlright, I get it. Youâre a good kid. Stefan was too immature and put you through a lot. Now, heâs the one who has to suffer. This is probably fate.â Grandpa Hunt looked contemplative.
The two chatted for a while, but Renee was distracted throughout the entire conversation.
Grandpa Hunt could tell there was something on her mind. âIf you have any questions, go ahead and ask them. Itâs tough seeing you like this.â
Renee didnât hold back after hearing this. âGrandpa Hunt, was Tristanâs death really an accident? Did you ever suspect there might be more to it than meets the eye?
