Chapter 611
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
Stefan Hunt sat there like a king, dazzling and charming the people around him. It was clear that the man was a born leader â nobody could take their eyes off him. Even the reporters from popular media companies who were initially only interested in getting their hands on sensational news were now so captivated by Stefanâs charisma that they forgot to take notes.
Sitting amidst hundreds of other guests in the audience, Reneeâs icy gaze was locked on the man on the stage. Her fists were clenched so tightly that her fingernails dug deep into her flesh.
So, Stefan Hunt had been alive all this time⦠and had now returned more powerful and arrogant than ever! It was truly a pity that sheâd spent all that time grieving and shedding tears for him. It was all for nothing! Renee felt like laughing at how foolish she had been.
Xavier crossed his legs, looking as if he knew all along that this would happen.
âI canât believe Stefan actually went through with his outrageous plan!â He exclaimed with a grin. âBut Iâve got to give it to him â this time he really managed to beat that slimeball Jovan Hunt! He went overboard with his little scheme, though; I didnât think heâd disappear for so long, especially with all those crazy rumors about him going around⦠Heâs like one of those medieval knights whoâd endure torture and humiliation for the sake of victory!â
âYou mean,â Renee said slowly, âyou knew he was alive, and others knew it too? Was Alexander Hunt in on this too?â
âOf course!â Xavier replied enthusiastically. âItâs a huge undertaking, after all! He did give us hints that he was safe so we wouldnât be worried about him or do anything rash. If weâd done something, like go after Jovan, weâd never be able to lure out the mastermind backing himâ¦â
When Renee was silent, Xavier turned to her and asked hesitantly, âYou didnât actually think that he was dead, did you? Didnât Stefan drop you any hints?â
âNo,â Renee shook her head, her face sullen with disappointment, âhe didnât. M âNo way⦠He wouldnât possibly hide such a big thing from you! Youâre the most important person in the world to him, so he definitely wouldâve hinted at something. Anybody would know that youâd be worried about him!â
Xavier blurted out, defending his friend even though he figured that Stefan had clearly not thought this through.
Stefan Hunt had dug his own grave, and Xavier couldnât help him out of it.
Renee smiled bitterly, thinking how foolish she was to have worried about him. âClearly, Iâm nothing to him, so why should he think of me when he decides to do something?â
âUmâ¦â Xavier inwardly kicked himself, and hastily added, âThatâs not what I meant, Renee⦠Maybe itâs because you mean so much to him that he had to keep you in the dark about it. That way, itâd be more believable, and the target would definitely take the bait.â
âSo, I guess that just makes me one of the pawns in his plan, huh?â Renee sneered, now understanding why Jovan had taken her to Stefanâs grave that day. Despite him wanting to boast about replacing Stefan, he probably wanted to see her reaction to the news. When he saw how genuinely upset she was, he was then convinced that Stefan really was dead.
âDonât say that, Renee! Thereâs always a misunderstanding between the both of you, and if you think that way, itâll only get worse! When are you both going to move past it?â Xavier protested.
âNever!â Renee snarled, her eyes shining with rage. âIt will never be resolved, because from now on, Stefan Hunt and I will forever be strangers to each other! If we ever cross paths in this dog-eat-dog world of business, it would be as competitors, not friends, and if that happens, you can be sure that Iâll fight him to the death!â
Just as Renee finished her sentence, she noticed a microphone hovering near her mouth. Realization struck her, and she slowly looked up to see everyoneâs eyes on her, including Stefanâsâ¦
