Chapter 626
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
Reneeâs mind went blank as Stefanâs lips claimed hers passionately.
She pushed everything to the back of her mind and grabbed Stefanâs collar, snarling, âIf you want to kiss me, do it properly.â
Pulling him down to her, she kissed him back with a hunger that surprised them both.
That wasnât the first time theyâd been this close â when they had gotten drunk back then, they had been even more reckless. Back then, they could blame it on the alcohol, but they were both sober now, so the aftermath was surely going to be messy.
As a result, they both instinctively came to a halt.
Renee sat on the carpet, leaning against the door and breathing heavily. She tugged at her hair agitatedly as she tidied her clothes. âI must have been insane to do that! Donât overthink it â itâs only normal in such a situation.â
Stefanâs raspy voice revealed hints of suppressed longing. âI understand.â He coughed softly. âI feel the same way.â
He subconsciously moved closer to her, and they sat next to one other on the floor.
Renee looked at him defensively. âWhat are you doing?â
âI told you I suffer from PTSD. Let me rest on your shoulder for a while.â Before she could protest, Stefan leaned on her shoulder.
Renee gritted her teeth, but she couldnât bring herself to push him away.
Unknowingly, hours passed. The room remained dark and silent.
âWhy hasnât the problem been solved yet? Is this the extent of the Hunt familyâs capabilities?â Renee burst out finally, having reached the end of her patience.
Stefan seems to have dozed off, and drowsily opened his eyes. âYou still havenât figured it out, have you?â He mumbled quietly.â This is no accident â it was done on purpose. Just go to sleep. Thereâs no way youâre leaving this place unlessâ¦â
âUnless what?â She asked eagerly as though a glimmer of hope had suddenly appeared before her.
âUnless you achieve their objective.â
âWhat do you mean? I donât get it.â Renee stared at him quizzically.
âIf Iâm not mistaken, this is the work of my foolish mother. Her purpose is for you and me to reconcile.
Soâ¦â He hesitated for a few seconds before replying flatly, âThey wonât let us go if we donât create a commotion.â
Stefanâs theory was indeed correct.
Francine was frowning as she leaned against the door of the study room.
âThatâs so strange. Why are they so quiet? Itâs dark, and theyâre both alone, so they shouldnât be able to resist the temptation. Is something wrong with one of them or is something wrong with my ears?â She thought to herself, confused.
Francine asked Lisa, âDo you hear any noises coming from inside?â
âMadam, itâs quiet inside. I canât hear a single thing!â
âWell, I canât let them out yet. Iâll just have to keep them in there until they confess their feelings for each other.â Francine was adamant that she would not open the door until Stefan and Renee reconciled.
Meanwhile, Renee was on the verge of losing her mind in the room.
