Chapter 637
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
âI should head home. Iâm a bit worried about my cat. My cat was spayed not long ago, and I live alone. I want to head home and take care of herâ¦â Shelley admitted.
â Understood. You should head home then, donât worry.â Renee said reassuringly.
Shelley walked away but turned around when she remembered something.â Miss Everheart, when I took the elevator this afternoon, I heard about a pervert in this office building. Donât work too late, it might be unsafe.â
âDonât worry. If he comes to me, heâll get into trouble instead.â Renee smirked.
âYouâre beautiful, Miss Everheart, so youâd better be careful. We should stay far away from twisted men like these.â Shelley looked at her boss worriedly.
âYes, I understand. Iâll be careful.â Renee looked up and smiled warmly at Shelley. Her concern was touching.
After Shelley left, Renee was the only one still working overtime on that floor. All the lights in the office area were turned off, except for the ones in Reneeâs office. The floor seemed cold and dark.
âItâs finally done!â Renee stretched and breathed a sigh of relief. She got up, turned off the lights, and left her office. By the time she got into the elevator, her eyelids were getting heavy.
The elevator moved smoothly and stopped on the sixth floor. Then, a man in a plaid shirt and black-
framed glasses came in with a laptop bag.
The man was shorter than Renee and had dark circles under his eyes. He had dull eyes, and looked like a programmer who had been tortured at work.
Like Renee, he went straight to the basement parking lot on the first floor.
The two did not speak the whole time. However, when they were about to reach the parking lot, the man suddenly turned to Renee and said anxiously, âE-Excuse me. Can I ask you for a favor?â
âWhat?â Renee turned around and raised an eyebrow at the man.
âI lost my phone. I need to call my family and tell them, or else theyâll be anxious. Can you make a call for me?â The man seemed like an honest person. His face was red â perhaps heâd mustered a lot of courage to make this request.
Renee thought it was a simple request, so she took out her cell phone and said, âGive me the phone number.â
â159,362â¦â The man said the number gently.
The call quickly connected. A woman answered it and asked coldly, âWhoâs calling?â
Renee then handed her phone to the man.
The man approached Renee and took her phone carefully. He said to the phone, âHey, dear. Itâs me. I worked late tonight, so Iâll be home late. I borrowed a strangerâs phone to call. I lost my phoneâ¦â
âWhat? Your phone is missing? Didnât you just get a new one? Why are you wasting unnecessary money? Our cash flow will be tight again after paying the mortgage this monthâ¦â
Renee listened to the womanâs chatter and sighed. She was getting a little impatient, but didnât want to interrupt them.
Soon, Renee started feeling drowsy. Her eyelids got heavier, and she felt weakâ¦
âOh, yes. Dear, stop nagging me. Iâm borrowing someone elseâs phone. I just wanted to let you know.
Okay, Iâm doneâ¦â
Before the man could finish his sentence, Renee collapsed to the ground, her world fading to black.
