Chapter 659
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
Renee looked up expectantly, but a look of disappointment and surprise soon filled her eyes.
âChristopher?â
Christopher had his back to the sun. He looked like Prince Charming from the novel. âThis is quite effective. Hurry up and use it. You donât want any scars to form!â
âHow did you know Iâ¦â Renee had an awkward expression on her face.
She was trying hard to hide the amount of pain she was in earlier. It wasnât because she was mentally strong, and it also wasnât because her skin was too thick to feel any pain.
Instead, she just didnât want to appear too insignificant next to Seraphina while everyone surrounded her.
âI noticed your facial expression wasnât natural earlier. I figured that you were probably burned too, but Iâm sure you have your reasons for not wanting it to be known,â Christopher said gently, like how an older brother would. He made Renee feel very safe.
Renee sighed and laughed bitterly. Without realizing it, she was opening up to him.
âYou were all so worried about Seraphina. I didnât want to steal her limelight. Besides, Iâm not the kind of woman whoâd cry over pain.â Years ago, when she lived in an environment full of love, she would openly express her vulnerability.
However, over the years, and after numerous experiences, sheâd gotten used to being tough. Sheâd help herself feel better without needing a show of concern from others.
âSilly girl. Only babies who cry will get milk. If a girl is too tough, life gets very difficultâ¦â Christopher sat next to Renee. He was like a gentle autumn breeze. âDonât think Seraphina is just a fierce girl. Sheâs actually very smart. She knows how to show her vulnerable side, and sheâs also good at expressing her needs. Thatâs why we all spoil her rotten.â
âI can tell you all do spoil her rotten. In fact, Iâm a little envious of her personality. She can find friends wherever she goes. Itâs too hard for me,â Renee said.
âYeah. Youâre very kind, but thereâs always a feeling of distance. During the years you were married to Stefan, we might have met very often, but we never got close. Itâs such a shame, really.â Christopher, who was the oldest in the group, was much more experienced and mature. Although he rarely spoke, he was the best at judging a personâs character.
âYou and Stefan are actually quite alike. Youâre both very stubborn. Once you make up your mind, itâs hard for you to change it. What a pity you two broke upâ¦â Christopher could tell that neither Stefan nor Renee had moved on from the other.
Renee didnât say anything. Instead, she unscrewed the medicinal cream and silently smeared some of it on her wound.
The cool sensation stung her wound a little.
Renee didnât make a sound. Instead, she merely frowned.
âAhh, didnât I just tell you that only babies who cry can get milk? You really need to know how to show your vulnerability,â Christopher said with a sigh.
He had never seen a woman as stubborn as Renee. She was clearly in a lot of pain, but she didnât even make a sound.
âOf course, this is how I protect myself.â After applying the medicinal cream to her wound, she stood up. âThank them for me. Iâll be making a move first.â
Christopher didnât try to convince her to stay. âAre you sure youâve given up on Stefan?â
âDidnât I tell you that I did that a long time ago?â
âI bet you can tell that Seraphinaâs feelings for Stefan arenât purely platonic. Sheâs had a crush on him for many years. Now that sheâs returned, she wonât give up easilyâ¦â Christopher was the only one in the group whoâd discovered this secret.
Renee shrugged nonchalantly. âIt has nothing to do with me. I wish her the best of luck.â
