Chapter 95
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
The air became silent.
A strange emotion filled the air between the two people.
Stefanâs thin lips moved, as if he was about to say something.
But right then, the door of the ward slammed open.
âI see. So this is the so-called âholiday abroadâ. Incredible. You even lied to your grandpa!â
Francine Milford walked in menacingly. She glared at Renee, wishing she could devour Renee alive.
Briar Desrosiers came in after Francine.
Her stomach had grown larger since the last time Renee saw her. The round belly was like a silent slap to Reneeâs face, instantly waking her up.
Heh, what an idiot she was.
Stefan cheated on her. That was the cold hard truth. Yet she was foolish enough to test how he felt still.
Considering what had happened up to this point, was it important whether he regretted saving her or not?
âNow that youâre here, Iâm finally free.â
Renee calmly stood up from the chair. She gestured towards the bowl of medicine on the table and told Briar, âThree times a day, rub it on his whole body. This is a task more suitable for you.â
you, Miss Briar put on a soft, weak pretense and spoke like she was Stefanâs wife, âThank you, Everheart. Sorry for all the trouble Stefan caused you in the last few days. Donât worry, Iâll take good care of him.â
The mockery in that remark was so thick that Renee felt like laughing.
But she did not say anything. She simply gave Stefan a nod and turned around to leave.
âYou donât have to go.â
Stefan said towards Reneeâs back, his voice deep and cold with a domineering attitude that no one could question, âLike I said, thereâs no one more suitable to take care of me than you.â
This was like a slap to Briarâs face.
Briarâs expression turned ugly. She secretly clenched her fists and tried to look innocent and wronged.
But when she looked at Renee, she could not suppress the hatred in her eyes.
Francine was angered too. She berated Stefan, âFan, do you even know what youâre talking about?
Briar is pregnant with your child and sheâll be giving birth in a few months, while youâre about to divorce this woman. Briar is the woman youâll spend the rest of your life with. How can she be more suitable than Briar?â
âYou said it yourself, Renee and I are about to get a divorce, which means weâre currently still husband and wife. These tasks are more suited for a wife.â
Stefan eyes were on Renee the whole time he said that. His gaze was deep and complicated.
âYouâ¦!â
Francine was speechless. She did not know how to deal with her son.
âCan you tell me whatâs wrong with you? Why are you in the hospital? Is your hematophobia acting up?â
She walked over to Stefan and looked him up and down with a worried expression.
Stefan closed his mouth and chose silence.
Renee was going to leave, but she suddenly turned back around to look at the three people in the ward with a weird smile on her face.
âIâm really sorry, Miss Francine, Mr. Hunt was bitten by a snake while trying to save me. Heâs now a quadriplegia and may be paralyzed foreverâ¦â
She looked at Briar with a sympathetic expression and said, âMiss Desrosiers, youâll have a hard life ahead of you. However, since you and Mr. Hunt truly love each other, I donât think youâll mind. In the future, heâll have to rely on you as his crutch. I, as the ex-wife, wish you two a good marriage and a lasting relationship!â
âWhat⦠what?!â
Upon hearing this, Francine almost lost her balance.
Briarâs expression was even more interesting.
âImpossible! Impossible! You must be lying!â
For the first time ever, instead of helping the unsteady Francine, she grabbed Reneeâs arm like a mad woman and said, âYouâre lying! You donât want to get dumped, so youâre trying to force me to quit, arenât you?!â
Renee sneered and shook off Briarâs hand hard. âYou can ask Stefan yourself.â
Stefan, lying in bed with an unreadable expression, looked coldly at Briar and said, âSheâs not lying. I really am paralyzed. Would you still marry me?â
