Chapter 996
The Untouchable Ex-Wife
âDoes that mean you like Stuart?â
âThatâs not the only relationship a man and a woman could have, you knowâ¦â Not intending to stall any longer, Renee told her everything.
âBasically, my friend likes him, and I think heâs fallen for her too. But heâs just acting so weird! He likes her, but he doesnât dare to make a move.â
âSo I was wondering if he has some kind of unresolved issues and if it has anything to do with you.â
âFell for your friend?â
A glimpse of jealousy flashed within Shirleyâs gorgeous eyes for a split second. She then let out a cold chuckle. âI think your friend must have been assuming things. Stuart loves me very much, and heâd never move on so easily.
âI did reject him in the past, but something happened later on, and it helped me confirm my feelings towards him. Thatâs why Iâve decided to be with him. So Iâm guessing he rejected your friend because of this.â
âR⦠Really?â Renee was dejected after hearing this. After all, everyone knew just how head over heels Xavier was towards her. Hence, it didnât sound like a lie at all.
âIâm so sorry our troubles have affected someone else. Weâll make sure to give her a proper apology later onâ¦â
âYou donât have to.â Renee let out a long sigh, feeling quite sorry for Leia. âItâs good enough that we cleared things up, and I wish you and Xavier a happy relationship.â
âWait,â Shirley called out to her all of a sudden.
âWhat is it?â
âYou care so much about your friendâs love life, Miss Everheart. But do you really not care about your own?â
âWhat does that mean?â
âI heard Mr. Hunt got into an accident. As his ex-wife, arenât you concerned in the slightest?â
âOh⦠that!â Renee figured that the conflict between Stefan and her brother had been spread to the public, so she pretended to be nonchalant. âWell, thatâs just life, isnât it? We all have ups and downs.
Whatâs important is that heâs still alive.â
âHow cruel, Miss Everheart; even Iâm starting to feel bad for Mr. Hunt. Donât you even feel an ounce of guilt towards him?â
âWhy would I? He was the one who provoked his enemy, so he definitely deserved it. I wouldnât shed a tear even if he were to die.â
She likely wished to convince herself the same, which was why she purposefully spouted such heartless words.
Before leaving, she picked up the cup of coffee on the table and lightly sipped on it, then turned to Shirley. âThanks for your concern, though, Miss White. Oh, and the coffeeâs great.â
Shirley watched as Renee walked far, shifting the small microphone she tied to her waist, and whispered. âAuntie, I asked everything you wanted me to ask. Miss Everheart really is cruel! I feel so bad for Stefan!â
On the other end of the line was Francine, about to explode in rage. She had heard every single word Renee said earlier, and that was enough to crush the last sliver of hope she held in her heart.
She initially thought that this was all just some kind of misunderstanding, that Renee had no idea about Stefan and Seraphinaâs accident.
However, now it seemed to her that it was far from a misunderstanding. âThat woman is nothing but a vicious viper!â
âIf thatâs so, I wonât be showing any mercy either. Have them take action!â Francine said with an expressionless face, her eyes frosty.
This order was basically sentencing Renee to death.
