"I won! I won!" Ren jumps up and down, yelling. "Take that Cora."
I raise an eyebrow as Cora just sticks her tongue out at her, flipping her off. Jess's eyes dart between the two of them and then she turns to me and gives me an 'are they serious?' look.
I nod my head in embarrassment as I watch my two best friends now bicker about who's better at bowling. If I had known they would be so competitive, I would never have agreed to it.
"Guys, guys!" I call out to them. "Calm down, it was just a game. It didn't mean anything."
They both roll their eyes at me and give me a pointed look. What did I do now?
"Anna, this wasn't just any game," Cora starts. "This game was proving who is better at bowling. Which clearly wasn't Ren."
Ren gasps in shock, placing a hand over her heart. Always the drama queen. "Excuse me? Did you not see my win? I beat you fair and square."
Cora snorts. "Fair and square my ass. You cheated."
Ren shakes her head. "I so did not. Anyways, how can you cheat at bowling?"
Cora glowers at her. "You distracted me every time it was my turn. I lost because you made me lose!"
"I so did noâ
I intercept them before they have a fullâon catfight. As funny as it is to see them wrestle each other, I don't think the employees here would appreciate it.
"Right, shut it the both of you. You're both good at bowling, okay? Now calm down and makeup." I tell the both of them. Both of them are being childish right now; to prove my point, they both give each other a nasty look and look away, tilting their heads the opposite way. I huff, mentally rolling my eyes at their behavior. "Now!"
Fifteen minutes later, we head back over to the rest of the group. It took me ages to get Cora and Ren to talk to each other. They're both very stubborn people, not to add how competitive they are. They both have to be the winners or better at everything. Its so stupidâand I always have to be the one to get them to make up.
I walk over to Xavier who immediately wraps his strong arm around my waist. I snuggle into him, enjoying the electricity between us. I don't think I will ever get used to the sparks.
"You're like a peacekeeper," Xavier mutters into my ear, his hot minty breath fanning my ear. Shivers shoot down my spine at the sensation and I have to bite my lip from doing anything that will humiliate me.
"Not really," I shrug. "I'm just the one who has to stop them from releasing their claws."
"Their kitty claws." He chuckles into my ear, tightening his grip around my waist.
"Yeah, they're vicious. You don't want to be on the receiving end of them."
"I hope I never am then." He whispers back.
After deciding that hanging around in the arcade area was boring, we go over to the bar. We sit in a booth, me sitting close to the wall with Xavier next to me. Derek sits next to Xavier and Jess sits opposite me, with Ren in the middle and Cora on the outside, facing Derek. I see an uneasy look pass her face but she quickly hides it by searching the menu for something to eat.
Xavier passes me a menu, his hand brushing mine. I give him a confused look to which he responds with a smirk. I scowl and look through the menu.
A young male waiter comes over to us, a small smile on his face. His eyes travel around the booth and stop at Ren. She doesn't notice though, instead, she's too interested in her phone.
He's cute, with shaggy brown hair and hazel eyes. He's not tiny but not exactly large either. He seems nice.
"Hello, what can I get everybody?" He politely asks and scribbles down our orders. I ended up getting a coke and some fries, like the girls. Derek and Xavier went for a large burger and fries. He gave me a wink afterward and started to converse with Derek.
Ten minutes later, the brownâhaired boy comes back with our food. His eyes flicker to Rens in nerves. This time, she notices him and gives him a bright smile. His cheeks heat up and he quickly looks down. She frowns but chooses not to say anything.
When he's gone, me and the girls bombard her.
"Did you see the way he was looking at you?" Jess questions.
"He's so into you." I input, grinning.
"Totally," Cora adds.
Ren shakes her head. "What? No. No...he's intimidated by me. Did you see that earlier? He blushed when I smiled at him, he's scared of me..."
Sure Ren, sure.
If she seriously believes that, I'm going to have to bash her in the head.
"Ren," I say. "He's so into you, even a blind man can see it. He blushed because he's afraid. he doesn't look like the confident type, he looks more reserved and shy. But trust me, he likes you."
Ren doesn't look convinced. She glances at him, as he serves another table and then looks down at her food.
"Open your eyes woman! Trust us when we say he does." Cora nearly yells.
"IâIÂ Â " Ren stammers, looking helplessly between us. I get that even she's scared. She may act like she understands guys and she may try to get them but she knows they won't go for her. She doesn't think they will want her, try to get her so that's why she acts desperate. But now that somebody has an interest in her, she's anxious. She doesn't know how to react or what to do.
My dear best friend, is in fact, clueless.
"Go and talk to him. See how you feel around him." I encourage her and give her a small smile. My best friend may be nervous but I know once she eases in, once she gets more comfortable around him, she will be full on rambling about a load of nonsense. A bit like me earlier.
With a deep breath, she gets up, climbing over Cora and saunters over to him. She taps his shoulder and he swivels around with a surprised but happy face. His eyes light up when he sees her and I have to refrain 'awwing' from it.
After a few minutes, Ren is full on blabbering, laughing at him. I smile at her, happy for my best friend.
I zone back into everything around me and see that Xavier and Derek are still talking together about the next game. Sometimes I forget Xavier is the quarterback of the team. He goes to training the same time as I do cheer practice meaning he can still take me home. He's been training for an upcoming game and I can't wait to watch him play; cheer him on.
All of a sudden, Cora hops out of the booth and goes to the toilets. I never fully read into her sad look as she watched Ren and the guy. She's still trying to move past the whole Derek thing which is pretty hard when he was literally in front of her.
Derek notices her abrupt leave and quickly clambers out and follows her. I'm about to do the same when Xavier's voice halts me.
"Don't. Leave them to talk."
I nod my head and relax into the booth again. Xavier puts his hand on my thigh and starts rubbing circles. The action makes me feel tinglesâits so comforting and... just plain nice.
Jess is still eating her food with us, I can tell she feels a bit awkward since its just me and Xavier left. She probably feels like the third wheel.
This evening has been going fairly well and has been a good distraction for Chris. That nagging feeling at the back of my mind is still there but this trip has helped me loosen up a bit. Being stressed and afraid all of the time is tiring.
Me and Xavier have bonded more. He's been an amazing boyfriend. I still feel like the luckiest girl evâ
"Xavier!" A young woman's voice squeals. A stunning brown haired girl with green eyes and olive colored skin rushes over. She has on designer clothing, whilst carrying her clutch. With a short but not too short dress and sixâinch stilettos, she heads over to us with a bright smile. She's wearing makeâup but not too much that its excessive. This girl almost looks like me, it's creepy. But a way prettier version. In fact, she looks like she's come off of the runway.
Xavier's hand on my thigh tightens once the girl stops in front of him. She's grinning, looking so happy. And then she notices how close Xavier is to me. Her eyes narrow as she throws me a jealous look. Her steps falter for a second but with a shake of her head, she continues to head over with a determined face.
"Baby, I missed you so much." She flings herself at him, squeezing him into a hug. "I heard you dumped that cow Stacy, about bloody time. She was too fake, nowhere near good enough for you."
I glare at this girl, who has her hands on my man. She's holding him like he's hers. Who is she to him anyway? Please tell me, friend. Please tell me, friend.
"We can now get back together, I know you want me." She says, happily with a grin on her face. Her green eyes sparkle in excitement at the mere thought of it.
I glance at Jess who is giving me a nervous and confused look. Xavier doesn't seem to be doing anything. He just seems to sit there with a passive face whilst his girlfriend is watching her practically grope him.
She pulls away and gives him a dazzling smile. "I missed you so much." And then she kisses him, on the mouth. In front of me.
I get this jealous feeling as I watch it and I grit my teeth. He doesn't do anything, like pull her away. I can't believe this.
My eyes well up and I scramble out of the booth and sprint outside. I hear Jess shouting my name and eventually Xavier as well.
I can't believe he would do that! He said he loves me. I scoff at that, love my ass. That dickhead. Once a manwhore, always a manwhore.
I'm such an idiot for trusting him. I thought we were good together.
Jess barges out of the building and embraces me in a hug. I cling to her as I start to sob. It feels like my heart is breaking, like its being torn apart. How could he do this to me?
"Princess!" Xavier shouts as he rushes out of the doors, a desperate look on his face.

Ooh, more drama. How do you feel about that? Please don't get mad at me, this may feel like a repeat of the whole Stacy drama thing but the whole point of it is so we can see Anna's insecurities. She was reluctant to date Xavier because she thought he would move onto another girl. I think this is important in their relationship.
