Chapter 143
Even After Death
Jack looked at Olivia in confusion. Olivia didnât look back at him. Staring into the distance, she
continued, âTo be honest, I didnât mean it at first when I said I wanted to help you guys.
âAs soon as you get involved with that person, you can never get away in one piece.
âThe moment you get the ransom, youâll fall into his trap. When that happens, not just you three, but
everyone on the island. will be in trouble.â
When Jack heard that, he subconsciously touched the claw blade he hid at the side.
Ignoring it, Olivia continued, âBut that was until I saw the truth. You guys live in poverty, but your hearts
have remained cheerful.
âThe old people in this village donât even have enough money to treat their sicknesses. A lot of them
died because of that.
âJerry wants to learn to draw, but he canât even bring himself to use a precious pencil. Martha cut her
softest clothes into a diaper for a child she doesnât know.
âI think I can understand you a little. Youâre probably not from around here.â
âIâm not.â Jackâs reply was simple and clear.
Olivia said, âYou want to do your best to help them, and I share the same feeling now. This is a
beautiful place, and it shouldnât be tainted by the ugly ways of the world.
âThey should keep their cheerfulness.â
âWhat do you mean by that?â Jack was patient. He never mentioned how he would threaten Ethan so
far. Instead, he treated Olivia like a guest.
It was his kindness that changed Oliviaâs mind. She didnât want to teach them a lesson anymore.
âYou want money, so it doesnât matter who it comes from. You donât have to get it from Ethan.â
Olivia stared into his eyes as she said, âI have money. Even though it isnât much, it should be enough to
help you guys.â
âHow much do you have?â
â500 million dollars.â
Jack was confused. How was that not much?
Under Jackâs searching gaze, Olivia chuckled. âI know. You must be wondering why someone would be
so stupid that they would give strangers money.
âI only told you half of that story just now. Do you want to listen to the second half?â
âGo ahead. Iâll listen.â
Oliviaâs voice was gentle. Her words were carried by the ocean breeze as she recounted the events.
When Jack finished listening, he said right away, âIâll kill him for you!â
Olivia chuckled. âKilling him wonât extend my life. Iâll be gone soon.
âIâve donated 500 million to a charity organization. Now, Iâve finally found a place for the remaining 500
million.
âItâs still his money in the end, though. Let me pay the ransom in his place.â
Jack was silent for a long while. Olivia continued, âDonât mess with him; heâs crazy.
âCrazy people arenât scary in this world, but the same canât be said for people who are crazy, rich, and
powerful.
âYou think of this place as a haven, but itâs only a matter of time before he finds this place.â
âDonât you hate him?â Jack asked.
âIâve loved him, and Iâve also hated him. In my most extreme moments, I even wanted to exact revenge
on him by killing his
son.
âAfter staying here for a day, Iâve calmed down a lot.â
Olivia reached out and felt the ocean breeze through her fingers. âI think Iâve finally found a place to
belong.
âJack, may I use 500 million to buy a final resting place for me here?â
She would wait until she had figured everything out and carried out her revenge. She would completely
cut ties with that person.
Then, she would be buried on this island. It was a nice thought.
Jack was very familiar with cancer. He saw elderly people on the island die because of it. They died in
great pain.
He never thought that the weak woman in front of him had the same illness. No wonder she fainted
after leaping onto the speedboat.
She wasnât sacrificing herself; she was simply too weak.
â⦠Okay.â Jack agreed to the death contract.
âLet Connor stay with me for another week, then weâll send him back.â
âOkay.â
Reaching out, Jack suddenly helped her up. âCome with me.â
