Chapter 151
Even After Death
Jack swiftly led her into the forest. There was a treehouse in the forest, which Jerry showed her two
days ago.
Jack swept the fallen leaves away. Then, he led her into the underground secret base.
It was completely dark underground, so Jack lit an oil lamp. The warm glow brightened up the whole
base. When Olivia saw the things stored there, she was shocked.
âAre these all yours?â she asked, pointing at the firearms and weapons hanging on the wall.
The man responded in a low voice without explaining too much. Grabbing a small handgun, he placed
it in Oliviaâs hand.
âThe truth always sides with the strong. No matter what happens in the future, you need a weapon to
protect yourself.â
Touching the heavy gun, Olivia had a nervous look on her face. She gulped. âYouâre giving this to me?â
Under the mask, Jackâs dark eyes gleamed earnestly. He said in a cold voice, âIf you canât escape, I
hope that itâll be your final way out.â
He pointed the gun at his chest. âRemember this spot and pull the trigger. It only takes one shot.â
He knew about her waking up from nightmares every night. He was quiet, but it didnât mean that he
didnât care.
âIf you donât want to have nightmares, you just have to end it at its source.â
Olivia nodded, frightened.
âCome, Iâll teach you how to use it.â Even though Jack was injured, it didnât affect his movements at all.
As he explained, he took the gun apart. âBefore using the gun, you have to understand it so that you
wonât accidentally hurt yourself.â
âGot it.â
Olivia didnât decline his kindness. She didnât know what troubles she would face in the future.
She was physically too weak, so it was nice to have a way to protect herself.
Soon, she learned how to take the gun apart and reassemble it. A surprised look flashed across Jackâs
eyes.
âWell done. Letâs try using it next.â
He took Olivia to the shooting range. âSee that bullseye? Aim at it and shoot.â
It was Oliviaâs first time holding a gun. She wasnât sure if she was excited or scared, but her arms
wouldnât stop trembling.
Then, she felt the manâs warm chest leaning against her body. Jack put his arms around her from
behind, as if embracing her.
He placed his palm on her hand, saying, âDonât be afraid. Find the target, then shoot. Like thisâ¦..â
The piercing sound of the gun exploded in Oliviaâs ears, threatening to rip her eardrums. The sound
was so shocking that her heart almost stopped when she heard it in person.
She stood where she was, feeling numb. There was a dazed expression on her face as she shivered
uncontrollably.
âLike this. Get it?â The manâs warm breath reached her ears, pulling Oliviaâs thoughts back to reality.
It was only then that Olivia realized something. Jackâs posture looked like he was hugging her, and
even his palms were placed firmly on the back of her hands.
Olivia subconsciously tried to move away, but Jack moved faster than her.
In a mere second, Jack had already stepped away and put some distance between them.
His voice was uniquely low and hoarse. He said, âTry it. Remember, donât panic, and donât tremble. You
have to aim properly.
âIf you have the resolve to use this gun on that person, thereâs nothing else to fear. Either you or him
will die, so you have to be firm. Being nice wonât help you.â
Jackâs words were sharp, but he was right. It was true that all her failures were caused by her
softheartedness. She was too weak.
She had allowed Marina, Ethan, or even random strangers to take advantage of her. When she thought
of that, her gaze slowly grew determined. She lifted her arms again.
