Chapter 173
Even After Death
Madam Burgess, who noticed Oliviaâs pale face, quickly set her phone aside.
âMadam Burgess, why are you reading that?
âThat picture is an eyesore. You should look at heartthrobs in entertainment to make your day.
âI heard that thereâs a newly debuted idol group called XO. The way they twist their waists is really hot.â
Olivia, who was in a bad mood, chuckled at that. âYou know this kind of stuff?â
Madam Burgess placed her hand on Oliviaâs shoulder. âMrs. Miller, people can never be perfect.
âWe learn whatâs right or wrong through mistakes. We shouldnât punish ourselves because of othersâ
mistakes.â
Olivia was surprised to learn that Madam Burgess was actually on her side.
Madam Burgess continued, âIf Mr. Miller divorced you, he could divorce Marina in the future, too.
âGive yourself some time. Itâs-â
âI know. Prepare the ingredients. Iâll make dinner tonight for tonight,â interrupted Olivia, as she didnât
want to hear the rest.
Madam Burgessâ eyes lit at her rare attempt to please Ethan.
To Madam Burgess, Olivia and Ethan were the perfect match.
She was certain that the engagement was done because of his impulsive decision.
Thus, his relationship with Marina wouldnât be able to last long for sure.
âOkay. Iâll call Mr. Miller,â Madam Burgess said.
Olivia turned her phone off and stood up with a cold expression. She recalled what had happened for
the past two years.
The Fordham family had fallen, and her father was in a coma.
Ethan wasnât the sole cause for what happened to her.
It was an undeniable fact that love blinded her vision, causing her to forget about others.
That was why there was an opening for others to take advantage of her.
Olivia didnât have much time left. Hence, she shouldnât waste time by having a fight with Ethan.
Didnât people grow up by withdrawing their claws and putting on a mask?
The presidential management staff made sure to hush their breaths.
Layer upon layer of burden weighed on them. It might take them one trivial mistake to enrage Ethan.
Brent stood next to him while holding a huge pile of documents.
Ethanâs eyebrows had not stopped furrowing since morning.
âMr. Miller, the news of your engagement with Ms. Carlton has gone viral online,â said Brent.
Although Ethan didnât respond to that as he read a document, Brent was aware that he was distracted.
Not only had he been reading that page for five minutes, the document was upside down.
âI received a call from Madam Burgess-â
âShe wants to leave the house?â Ethan finally responded.
Judging from her scoldings this morning, he assumed that she was causing a ruckus at home to leave.
âNo. Madam Burgess asked if youâre going to go home for dinner. Mrs. Miller is making dinner tonight,â
Brent corrected.
Despite the good mood, Ethan snorted. âTell her that Iâm busy.â
After giving it a thought, Brent decided to persuade him. âMr. Miller, a lot of things have happened to
Mrs. Miller recently.
âSheâs thinner than she was in the past. Please be gentle to her.â
Ethan pointed at the scratch on his chin. âDo you think that sheâs gentle to me?â
âI bet she has realized her mistake. Sheâs making dinner to make up for it.â
Ethan threw the document in his hand onto the table. âAnd must I forgive her because of that?
âDoes she think that sheâs the only one I need? I didnât punish her for escaping, though. Just what does
she want me to do?â
He kept thinking about how Olivia and Jack held hands on the island.
Suppressing the churning resentment in him, he let out a long sigh.
He slammed the table. âEven if I have to jump off this building, I am not going to go home to have
dinner with her.â
Brent relayed the message to Madam Burgess over the phone.
Five minutes later, Ethanâs phone rang. Brent didnât know what Olivia said, but he noticed that Ethanâs
mood was improving.
âDo as you wish.â Ethan hung up the call with a smile.
When he met Brentâs questioning eyes, he coughed.
âShe wants to bring me dinner. But on her own accord. I didnât force her.â
Brent was at a loss for words.
