Chapter 224
Even After Death
The pent-up anger overwhelmed Olivia as she glared at Ethan. âItâs not like Iâm your only woman.
âWhy does it have to be me? Marina is just right downstairs. Should I call her over?â
âItâs because youâre the only one for me!â he said aloud in his head.
However, that answer was buried deep in his heart. He tightened his grasp around her waist, inhaling a
deep breath.
He said, âMust you put up a fight with me over this kind of matter?â
Olivia barely suppressed the urge to tell him how much he disgusted her.
She was aware that their relationship was as rigid as ever. Thus, she needed to keep her emotions
under control.
Confronting him recklessly wouldnât do her good.
As an afterthought, she decided to compromise. She lowered her head. âI just⦠canât get used to it.â
Taking a step back, as she had expected, never failed to work wonders whenever facing Ethan.
He watched her exposed nape. It was as if a kitty was revealing its weakness.
It managed to appease his anger a little.
âFine. I wonât touch you for the time being.â He was surprisingly receptive now.
Olivia raised her head with bright eyes.
Although he was still being mean to her, he didnât bear as much resentment as before. She could
clearly feel that.
Perhaps she could have seized the chance to gain useful information.
As long as she could pull him over to her side, it would be a big help for her investigation.
âEthan, can we talk?â Olivia asked.
âYeah. But I havenât eaten. Letâs eat while we talk.â He then asked someone to prepare a meal before
going to the bathroom.
Olivia initially intended to leave after having a short discussion with him.
But clearly, Ethan wasnât planning on letting her go.
Hearing the sound of water splashing, she sighed and opened the closet.
The clothes she previously owned were in it as she had expected. Marina hadnât come here before.
Olivia got changed and waited for him quietly.
Soon, dinner was served in their room. There were steaks, wine, and fresh flowers.
It was so romantic that she almost had a delusion that they hadnât divorced. It was as though they were
celebrating their marriage anniversary.
Ethan mustâve informed the waiters to serve only the food. They left as soon as they sent the food over.
The candle was lit, and the scent of rose and wine lingered in the air.
Ethan came out of the bathroom fresh and pulled out a chair to take a seat,
He arched an eyebrow at her. âWhat are you standing there for? Have a seat.â
Olivia looked at the dishes he ordered. Those were her favorites in the past.
Even the steak was done to her liking.
She gazed at him with the help of the dim light from the lit candle.
His handsome features werenât tense. He was relaxed, which was unusual for him.
âHow long has it been?â Olivia asked.
âTwo years and a month,â Ethan replied fast.
She smiled bitterly. âSo, I am not the only person remembering the anniversary.â
âOlivia, Iâm not as cruel as you think I am.â
âIf you werenât cruel, we wouldnât have come this far.â
âIs steak not enough to shut your mouth?â
He retorted, displeased.
She ate a piece of it. It tasted the same as she could remember.
The person next to her was the same man, but he felt like a stranger to her.
Ethan raised his wine glass at her. âHave some. I wonât force you to drink tonight.â
It seemed like he hadnât forgotten about how much she threw up back then. She was hammered when
she was begging him.
Olivia gladly toasted her wine glass with his. She took a small sip of it, but he gulped down half of it.
âDig in,â he urged.
She hummed in response.
It had been a while since they last shared such a peaceful moment together.
Ethan found Olivia cute as long as she wasnât holding an ashtray.
Still, the smile didnât find its way to her face as it always did in the past.
He believed that everything would find its place in the end.
Leo would be found, and Jeff would regain his consciousness someday.
Ethan would help with the Fordham familyâs comeback for her, and she would love him again.
Olivia suddenly lifted her head. âEthan.â
Her gentle tone sent tingling thrills down his spine. He stared deeply at her.
