Chapter 255
Even After Death
Olivia and Dr. Scott confirmed the time. The surgery would be held on that Friday. Holding an umbrella,
Olivia watched the rain as she dialed Everlyâs number.
Everly sounded exhausted. As soon as the call went through, she started complaining.
âGoodness, Iâve been staying up for two nights in a row. Whatâs wrong with the new boss? What a
workaholic.â -Covering her mouth, Olivia chuckled. âI remember you telling me how handsome he was
just a few days ago.â
âSo what if he is? Heâs not my boyfriend, anyway. I shouldnât have switched jobs. It wasnât too bad to
laze around in my previous company.â

After Everly broke up, Josh went to her previous company every day to beg for forgiveness. In her fury,
Everly resigned from her job.
She didnât want to work for people anymore. Declining Ethanâs offer, she went to work at an
outstanding real estate company. As a result, she cursed her boss every day for being nitpicky. He was
extremely harsh toward his employees.
âBy the way, Eve, are you free this Friday?â
âNope. The exploiter wants me to go on a business trip with him to Belford. Whatâs up?â
Olivia knew that Everly strived for strength. She seemed to be cursing her boss, but in reality, she
wanted to make it big in life.
She was currently in a period of growth in her job. Of course, she would have to focus on work.
Olivia swallowed the words she was about to say. âNothing, I just wanted to invite you to a meal. Maybe
next time.â
âSure. We have all the time in the world, anyway. Iâll bring back local snacks from Belford for you, Liv.â
Everly didnât say much before hanging up. She was asked to revise the proposal again.
Smiling, Olivia bade her goodbye.
Olivia looked at the blurry view in the rain. Reaching out, she felt the raindrops on her palm.
The cool moisture gave her a sense of reality. She felt like she was truly alive.
Like a child with no home to return to, Olivia crouched under the tree. She hugged her knees as she
looked at the busy street.
The world was so huge, but she couldnât find anyone to sign the letter for her.
Drops of rain rolled down her umbrella, splashing into the little puddle in front of her.
A huge screen opposite her showed the venue for Ethanâs engagement ceremony.
It was a cherry field, and cherry blossoms were in full bloom.
Ethan would be welcoming his bride in his suit and leather shoes.
Meanwhile, Olivia would be lying on the operating table, wishing she were dead.
Olivia flipped through the call records on her phone. Her gaze paused for a moment when she saw the
contact labeled as âMom
Chloeâs face filled her thoughts as she recalled what Chloe had said before.
âMarina will live to a ripe old age. Do you think Marina is as healthy as you?
âMarina hasnât been in good health since she was young.
âNow, she finally managed to marry the person she likes. Please get out of this relationship thatâs no
longer yours. Let everyone be happy, alright?â
Olivia spread open her palms. There were still marks from her nails digging into her skin.
She suddenly felt a prickle in her nose. Her dad was lying on a sick bed, while her mom didnât even
think of her as her daughter.
The man who once swore to protect her for life was soon about to take another woman as his bride.
She was left alone.
Looking at the rain pelting above her, she wished she could just die.
Chloeâs slap had shattered her desire to survive, which Olivia took great pains to regain.
A seed would take decades to grow into a big tree, but it took only a moment for a big tree to be
destroyed.
A single sentence could easily destroy all the effort she had put in to scramble out of the mud.
Realizing that she was being negative, Olivia shook her head.
She had to stay alive. As long as the mastermind wasnât captured, she mustnât die. She wouldnât die.
She wiped her tears frantically.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted someone getting out of a car that had pulled up.
A pair of luxurious handmade leather shoes stepped on the concrete. Someone was walking toward
her.
Olivia looked up in hope, but she was met with a pained gaze.
âOlivia, are you lost?â
A look of disappointment flashed across Oliviaâs eyes. âItâs you.â
