Chapter 257
Even After Death
Olivia felt that human hearts were quite simple. Colinâs cooking managed to heal the hurt she received
from Ethan and Chloe.
The more she needed love, the easier she was touched by small acts of kindness.
In the end, Colin still noticed her sorrow. He asked, âOlivia, is there something youâre upset about?â
âI need to undergo surgery, but when I look back in my life, I realize that I have no one to sign the risk
acknowledgment letter for me. Am I a failure?â
Olivia spoke nonchalantly, but a pained look flashed across Colinâs eyes.
âOlivia, everyone has a different definition of failure. To me, youâre an outstanding woman, so youâre not
a failure. An unhappy marriage can only be a mistake at most.
âBut we have long lives. No one can predict the future and avoid making mistakes.â
Olivia frowned a little. âYou know about what happened to me?â
âBack on the cruise, I knew that Mr. Miller was holding you. I was among the crowd at the hospital that
day, so I overheard your fight. Sorry, I didnât mean to eavesdrop.â
Olivia smiled helplessly. No wonder he took so long to get food.
âItâs okay. Itâs the truth, after all.â
Colin placed a dessert in front of her. âOlivia, if you donât mind, I can sign the letter for you. What
surgery are you getting?â
Olivia said lightly, âStomach removal surgery.â
The calmness in Colinâs expression was disturbed. âOlivia, are youâ¦â
âItâs exactly what you think it is.â
â
âHow can it be? Youâre so young. How could you get a terminal illness like that?â
Seeing his panicked expression, Olivia reached out and patted his head. âItâs okay, Colin. Iâve prepared
myself.
âAlso, itâs not as bad as you think it is. I went through chemo once, and it was very effective.â
The young manâs face was like a sheet of paper. His emotions were written clearly on his face.
His pale face was filled with worry. The corners of his eyes reddened as he choked. âYouâre the nicest
person in the world, Olivia. Youâll be okay.â
In reality, she was a little pessimistic. But her words had turned into words of comfort instead.
âYes, I think so too.â
âOliviaâ¦â
âItâs okay, itâll be fine,â Olivia mumbled. No one knew if she was convincing Colin or comforting herself.
For the next few days, she prepared herself according to the doctorâs instructions. She cut off almost all
contact with the
outside world.
She even paused her investigation into Jacksonâs matter. She didnât want these unrelated things to
affect her mood.
The only person she was worried about was Jack. His phone had been turned off ever since he left.
There was no news of him even now, and no one knew if he was dead or alive.
The weather had been nice lately. Seagulls soared above the sea, and the cherry trees in the
residential area had bloomed.
Olivia would go downstairs for a walk sometimes. It seemed to be raining petals, and the scenery was
breathtaking to watch.
She would subconsciously think of Ethan and Marinaâs engagement ceremony. It would definitely be
extremely luxurious and
beautiful.
Since that day, Ethan never came to visit. They finally returned to their respective lives.
Even though she consciously avoided any news of them, she could still hear rumors about them from
passersby.
Ethan was the perfect man in their eyes.
When the women discussed in excitement how nice he was to Marina, Olivia walked past them calmly.
It was as if she didnât know the subjects of their conversation.
Opening her palm, Olivia caught a petal in her hand. She thought that the cherry trees on the island
must be in bloom as well.
Sensing someone watching her from behind, Olivia turned around warily. She met a pair of dark eyes
that contained a lingering hint of emotion.
