Chapter 321
Even After Death
Glancing at Oliviaâs expression, Ethan continued, âDo you know about your motherâs illness?â
âYes, but I donât intend on donating my bone marrow to her.â
âWise choice. Personally, I also donât want you to get involved with her anymore.
âFor the past few days, the Carltons put in a lot of effort into finding the perfect bone marrow, but they
failed to do so. Youâre the only one they havenât tested.â
Olivia asked, âSo you think the Carltons wonât let me go?â
âThey definitely wonât. I know Chrisâ personality too well. You might be upset to hear this, but he truly
loves your mother. He will stop at nothing if it means saving your mother.â
Ethan placed his hands on Oliviaâs shoulders while speaking earnestly. âLiv, there may be a lot of
misunderstandings between us. Iâve hurt you before, but I sincerely want to protect you now.
âIâll send more men to look for your father. Just stay here and rest for a while, okay? Iâll come back for
you when Iâve settled everything.â
The sounds of a helicopter could be heard coming from the lawn outside. It sounded urgent.
Olivia gazed at him. âI understand.â
Ethan placed a hand behind her head, planting a kiss on her forehead. âLive, give me some time. Iâll tell
you everything in due
time.
âI promise that weâll be together like how we were in the beginning. I will give you everything you want.â
For a moment, Olivia didnât know what to say to annoy him.
Ethan took out two rings from his pocket. They were his and Oliviaâs wedding rings.
He held Oliviaâs hand before slipping one of the wedding rings onto her finger. The earnest look in his
eyes was the same as it
had been in the past.
Olivia couldnât understand why a man like Ethan could have a change of heart.
But Connorâs existence was a symbol of his disloyalty.
When the ring slid onto Oliviaâs thin finger, it hung loosely at the base.
She had lost a lot of weight, and her fingers had gotten much slimmer as well.
Olivia chuckled. âLook. After getting divorced, even the wedding ring doesnât fit me anymore.â
The look in Ethanâs eyes flickered. He didnât get mad. Instead, he carefully took off the ring.
âLiv, rings can be adjusted. Similarly, people can repent after making mistakes. To err is human, after
all.â
He put the ring away. âIâll put it on for you when we meet next time.â
Ethan kissed the back of her hand. âMy precious Mrs. Miller.â
Urgent voices sounded outside. Ethan looked longing at Olivia. âLiv, I have to go.â
In the past, whenever he had to leave, even if it was just for work, Olivia would throw a tantrum in his
arms. Then, she would see him off at the door, watching him leave until he was gone.
But now, she only nodded. Instead, Ethan was the one reluctant to leave. Standing at the door, he
looked quietly at Olivia. There was a displeased look in his eyes. âArenât you seeing me off?â
Olivia placed the book on the bedside table before saying lightly, âAll good things must come to an end.
Seeing you off will only increase the longing. It wonât solve anything.â
Ethan didnât say a word. He left with a cold look on his face.
Soon, Olivia heard the sounds of the helicopter taking off. She stood at the floor-to-ceiling window,
watching as the red dot grew smaller in the sky.
She no longer felt longing for him. Instead, she felt more freedom after he left.
There was phone reception on the island, so Olivia could make phone calls.
But the internet was blocked, so she couldnât go online.
She had asked about it beforehand. Even if there was internet here, this was a deserted island. It
wasnât even shown on the map. So, she had no idea where this place was.
Even if Olivia were to call someone, she could only tell them that she was on an island. She didnât
know anything else.
The second day after Ethan left, Olivia called Everly to assure the latter that she was fine. Right after
that, she received a call from an unfamiliar number.
âOlivia, is that you?â
The callerâs voice was stern and mature. It was Chris.
