Chapter 329
Even After Death
At the hospital, Chloe was out of danger after some emergency medical treatment. But she looked frail
and pitiable.
Chris held her hand that wasnât hooked to the IV drip and looked at her sorrowfully. Chloeâs health had
worsened immensely in a short amount of time.
âIâm sorry, Chloe. Itâs my fault Marina turned out like that.â
He didnât know the whole story, but he was sure Marina had done more horrible things than he
imagined. Chloe wouldnât have been so angry otherwise.
Chloe smiled weakly. âItâs okay, Iâm fine. You donât have to blame Marina. Sheâs just a kid.â
âSheâs the mother of two children. Sheâs not a child anymore. Iâm aware of what kind of person my
daughter is. She has always blamed you for what happened to her mother.â
Chloe grasped Chrisâ hand. âI can understand how she feels. She lost her mother at such a young age.
Itâs natural for her to
hate me. I donât blame her.â
âSometimes, I wish youâd at least get angry at her. Iâd feel better that way. Iâll ask her to stay away from
now. You have to take care of your body. Iâll find the bone marrow you need.â
Chloe had heard from her doctor that a compatible bone marrow hadnât been found yet. She said with a
self-deprecating smile, âI have no regrets. Youâve been good to me. Iâm very happy. Even if I die
Chris covered her mouth. âDonât speak nonsense. Modern medicine is very advanced. Youâll be fine.â
âI only have one wish right now. I want to see Olivia and apologize to her in person.â
When she was being resuscitated, Chloe thought a lot about what happened in the past. Most of her
thoughts were about Olivia, especially her childhood days.
âIâve failed her too many times.â
Chris held back his tears, saying, âDonât worry, Iâll find her.â
Ethan only left the office after night had fallen. Someone approached him from the shadows.
âMr. Carlton.â
Ethan had expected Chris to show up sooner or later. It was inevitable.
Chris looked fatigued, the usual vigor he had was gone. âEthan, letâs talkâ
âCome this way, Mr. Carlton.â
They got in the car where there was less noise, and Ethan drove the car himself. At that hour, they
were able to avoid t Ethan was able to drive without a hitch. The bright street lamps illuminated the
roads.
âYou must know why Iâm here.â
âYeah, I do.â
They didnât beat about the bush. Ethan parked the car near the beach as no one could track them here.
There was the sound waves in the distance paired with the salty sea wind
Ethan handed Chris a cigarette, and he didnât refuse.
Puffing out smoke, Chris said, âI know youâve found Olivia.â
Ethan didnât deny it. âI knew I couldnât hide it from youâ
Ethan knew what he did at sea wasnât public knowledge, but Chris would come to know about what
happened
âYouâre bold. You even alerted the Maritime Safety Administration. I heard you did something big not
long before that under the guise of counter-terrorism. But you were using your power for personal
purposes.
âEven though your achievements in the military are phenomenal, you shouldnât have gone all out for a
woman. The old guys up top were displeased.â
Ethan raised his head to look at Chris. âWould you have done it if you were me?â
Chris looked into the distance and didnât deny it. âI would. I understand why you did it, so I hope you
understand why Iâm asking you to hand her over to me.â
âYou want her bone marrow?â
âI know itâs unfair to her. But I wouldnât ask this of her if I had any other options. I donât have a choice
now. Chloeâs condition is getting worse.â
