Chapter 364
Even After Death
Otto came out to the yard. Marina held her breath behind the tree and used the leaves to hide herself.
The woman before Otto was alluring, but she exuded an air of authority and danger. She was like a
flower that bloomed in the tropical forests, pretty but poisonous. People wouldnât dare to approach her.
âItâs been a long time, Mr. Carlton Senior.â The womanâs voice didnât sound natural. It was like she had
deliberately changed her voice.
Otto was a little wary of her. Even though she was wearing a form-fitting dress that couldnât hide
weapons, he still didnât dare to get close to her.
âYouâve created too much trouble for me this time!â Otto slammed his cane on the ground with a stern
expression.
âItâs our fault this time. One of my subordinates accidentally leaked our location. So Iâm very grateful
that you covered for us. Thatâs why I came personally to deliver the drugs to you.â
Ottoâs expression lightened up at the mention of the drugs.
She opened her palm, and Otto eagerly grabbed the bottle of pills from her hand. Marina had
never seen Otto so anxious and overjoyed.
Otto frowned after he counted the pills. âWhere are there only 30 pills?â
âThe evacuation was too sudden. We werenât able to take many of the drugs with us. If you want to
blame someone, blame Ethan. Heâs the one that messed things up.â
Marinaâs eyes widened when she heard Ethanâs name. She didnât understand what Ethan had to do
with anything.
âDonât even try to slander him. I know what youâre trying to do. The best I can do for you is cover up
your tracks.â
Putting away the pills, Otto said, âIf you ever commit heinous acts in my country, Iâll be the first to attack
your base.â
The woman laughed and said, âUnderstood.â
âThereâs a lot of heat outside, so keep yourselves hidden. Donât make things difficult for me. I canât
save you every time.â
Waving his hands, he said, âYou may leave. Bring me my pills as soon as possible.â
âOkay. Iâll be leaving now.â
Otto walked off with the pills in his hand. Marina caught a glimpse of Ottoâs face. She saw the unbridled
joy on his face, like a child with his favorite toy.
What were those pills? Why could they make him so happy?
Marina entered through the door after the woman left. She saw Otto lying on the couch with an cerie
smile on his face. Even his eyes were glimmering. He no longer had his usual vigor. Instead, he looked
like he had been possessed.
âGrandpa, what pills are you taking?â
Otto instantly turned to look at Marina. His expression turned vicious as he said, âWho told you to come
in? Get out!â
Otto had doted on Marina since she was young. He had never spoken to her like that.
âGrandpaâ¦â
Otto regained his senses when he saw that Marina was close to tears. He gestured for her to
come over.
âCome here, Marina.â
His scary expression was still lingering in Marinaâs mind. She slowly walked toward him.
âWhat happened to you just now, Grandpa?â
Otto smiled and asked, âDid I scare you? I was just playing with you. Why havenât you gone home yet?â
âGrandpa, I saw everything. Who is that woman? What are those pills that she gave you? I saw that
your complexion was strange just now.
âThere isnât even a label on the bottle. Were you scammed? There are a lot of scammers tricking the
elderly into buying health products these days.â
âDo you think Iâm some sort of country bumpkin? That woman is a friend of mine. She does medical
research for a living. These pills arenât labeled because they arenât on the market yet.â
Marina frowned and said, âThey must be problematic if they arenât on the market yet. Arenât you afraid
that the pills might be bad for you?â
âSilly child, that woman is one of the best in the industry. My leg acted up a few years back. Sheâs the
one that healed it.â
Marina remembered that Otto was once wheelchair-bound. He was now able to walk with a cane. He
was also more energetic than before.
âSo, the pills are good for you?â
âWhy would I lie to you? Look at how lively I am now. Do I look like Iâve been poisoned?â
âI mustâve been overthinking it. I just thought she was suspicious because of how she dressed and the
way she brought up Ethan.â
Otto patted Marinaâs head. âThere are no absolute evils in the world. Her medicine saves lives, so sheâs
a good person to me. But some of her organizationâs research infringed upon some peopleâs interest
and wasnât being tolerated. So, I helped her a little.â
Marina felt like something was wrong, but she couldnât put her finger on it.
âOkay, Grandpa. I just want you to be well.â
âAlright, sweetie. Donât tell anyone about this. I made a deal with her.â
Marina nodded and said, âAlright.â
Otto talked with her for a little while before she left.
Marina exited the house but didnât see the driver anywhere. She was about to call the driver when a car
parked at the side of the road honked at her.
She raised her head and saw a black modified off-road vehicle.
The carâs window rolled down to reveal a mask.
The woman was propping her face up with her hand. She said with a drawl, âCan we talk, Ms.
Carlton?â
Even though Otto sang her praises, Marina picked up on the cautious look Otto had for her in the
beginning.
It was apparent that the woman was waiting for Marina, who spent quite some time in the house. It
would mean that the woman had realized she was hiding behind the tree that time. She was an
exceptionally vigilant person.
Marina was on guard against her. âSorry, Iâm busy.â
Her intuition told her that the woman was trouble and that she shouldnât approach her lightly.
Chuckling, the woman asked, âWhy? Are you afraid of me?â
Marina bit her lip and said, âWe donât even know each other. Thereâs nothing to talk about.â
As Marina was about to dial her driverâs number, the woman slowly took off her mask and asked, âHow
about now? Do you know me now?â
Marina dropped her phone the moment she saw the womanâs face. Her eyes were filled with disbelief
as she muttered, âThis ⦠canât be. How could it be you â¦â
