Chapter 371
Even After Death
Marina responded, âI called for the doctor and nurses as soon as possible. I went to the toilet. because
I had an upset stomach. I came here as soon as I was out of the toilet. How is she doing?
Chris looked at her for a while and shook his head. âItâs not looking good.â
âDonât worry, Dad. Ms. Parker will surely get better. Iâve been reflecting on my actions these two days. I
used to hate her because I thought she was only pretending to like me. But Iâve realized that she really
loves me.
âI feel guilty for treating her so badly. Iâll never make her angry again when she recovers.â
Chris hugged her after she said that. âYour mother will be fine. Weâll get through this as a family.â
âThatâs right.â
Olivia felt mixed emotions as she looked at them. Marina had abused her a lot, after all. There was still
a blood feud between them. Olivia really couldnât bear seeing Marina in such a loving
situation.
She looked away but noticed that Marinaâs hands were clutching the hem of her clothes tightly. Any
normal person would hug their father back in a situation like this.
But Olivia could see complicated emotions on Marinaâs face. It looked like she was nervous, guilty, and
afraid.
After a while, Chloe was pushed out of the emergency room. But this time, she remained
unconscious.
Chris approached the doctor in a hurry and asked, âHowâs my wife doing, doctor?â
The doctor removed his face mask, saying, âItâs not looking good. Her life is not in danger, but she has
gone into a coma. Weâll send her to the ICU for examination.
âThereâs only one last option left for Mrs. Carlton. Thatâs to do the bone marrow transplant as soon as
possible, or else â¦â
The doctor looked at Chris and gave him the final deadline. âShe might not last until the end of
the month.â
Chris took two steps back like he had been dealt a massive blow. âHow ⦠How could this be?â
âMrs. Carltonâs condition suddenly worsened twice. These incidents have greatly shortened her life. Mr.
Carlton, if a compatible bone marrow still canât be found, youâll have to be ready
for the worst.â
Chris was dumbfounded. For once, Marina was staying at his side. Olivia felt like she didnât belong
there, so she left quietly,
She found Kelvin and told him, âGo check if anyone other than Marina entered my momâs
ward.â
âOkay, Mrs. Miller. Why donât I send you home first? Youâve been helping out all night.â
Olivia knew she wouldnât be able to see Chloe in the ICU, so she went home.
If the mastermind orchestrated this incident, there would be some contradictions to Oliviaâs predictions.
If Leiaâs target was her, why would she hurt Chloe?
The mystery that she thought she was close to solving became shrouded in mist again. Olivia sighed
deeply and thought about Chloe, who was on the verge of death. She started to feel sad.
Olivia opened the door and noticed that Ethan was actually home.
He was wearing an apron and holding a spatula. Looking at her, he said, âYouâre back.â
Ethan noticed that Olivia was not in a good mood. He turned off the stove and approached her.
Hugging her, he said, âIâve heard about it. Donât be sad. Iâve cooked some chicken soup just for
you.â
His embrace was familiar to her. But there was the smell of oil and smoke on his body. It made
him feel more human.
Olivia didnât know if she was too tired or Ethanâs embrace was too warm. But she didnât move
away and allowed him to keep hugging her.
âI bought my momâs favorite matzo ball soup for her, but she wonât get the chance to eat it anymore.â
Patting her head, Ethan said gently, âThe gesture alone would make her very happy.â
âI suspect that her worsening condition isnât a coincidence. Someone must have caused it.â
Olivia broke free from his embrace and looked at him. âItâs very likely that Marina is the one
who did it.â
Not many people could get into Chloeâs ward. Also, she had been away for so many years and
had no friends in the city.
As soon as Marina came to visit, something happened to Chloe. Also, Marina was acting very
suspiciously at the hospital.
âItâs okay. Donât overthink it. Iâll handle it,â Ethan said as his expression remained the same.
