Chapter 408
Even After Death
âYou donât love me, but I donât blame you for that. I kept assuming that time would help you get over it,
and that you would fall in love with me someday.
âI didnât mind the cold treatment you gave me. I thought that you would love the child because we were
a family. So, I wanted to take good care of her and see her grow up.
âBut when I saw her slowly lose her vitality, I resented you to the bone for being heartless. How could
you be that cruel? Youâd rather give that bitch all of your love instead of giving a smidgen of it to us. So,
I swore that I was going to make you regret it for the rest of your life.â
Her eyes turned ferocious as she continued, âLater, I found out that Chloe was pregnant. I lost my child,
so how could she have a family and a child that loved her? Which was why I set everything up. I stole
her baby right after she gave birth.â
Chris muttered, âThat baby was⦠Marina!â
âThatâs right. Donât you love that bitch so much?â Helenâs face was contorted with madness. âBut I
overestimated you. Marina was younger than our child, yet you didnât catch on. Still, I think that it
makes sense to some degree too. Why would you care about my baby?
âSo, I treated Marina well and let her know that the person you loved was someone else. Resentment
is a seed. Once it takes root in your heart, itâll only grow.
âI took care of her round the clock and manipulated her thoughts. I watched her grow up harboring
resentment against you and Chloe. After that, I staged my death. As I expected, you got married to
Chloe not long after my death.â
Chrisâ face turned crimson. âI thought you were dead. I â¦â
He couldnât find an excuse because he really owed Helen.
âYou didnât return home for three years during our marriage. But after you got married to her, you gave
up on your business and gave her a peaceful life only because she was worried about you.
âWhat does that make me? What does that make my baby and the years I put in? She was such a cute
little girl! She called me âMomâ too!â
âHelen, I didnât do that to let you down on purpose.â
âChris, I donât think you know that Chloeâs miscarriage wasnât an accident. Her daughter poured
vegetable oil over the stairs on purpose to make her fall. Her daughter indirectly killed that little baby in
Chloeâs womb. I take it as compensation for my dead baby.â
Helen added, âBut how was that enough? I taught Marina to add musk to Chloeâs skincare products
and the glass of milk she drank every day. Thatâs why Chloe became barren.â
Chrisâ expression changed when he heard that. âHow could you be this evil?â
âEvil?â She chuckled. âWhat if I tell you that Iâm the reason why sheâs suffering from leukemia? I hired
the Carltons to add something to her food.â
Chrisâ eyes widened as he grabbed her neck. âYou should come at me and me only! Sheâs innocent.
How could you be that cruel to her?â
âYouâre the cause of my misfortune. Had it not been for her, you wouldnât have treated me coldly. Chris
Carlton, this is what you owe me. Donât worry, Iâve returned her child to her. Marina has been sent to
the hospital.â
She smiled brightly. âI kept my promise for yesterdayâs deal. Marinaâs bone marrow is compatible with
Chloeâs. Itâs not too late to perform the surgery now.
âBut Marinaâs weak at this moment. Itâs up to her if sheâs able to survive the surgery. I wonder who you
will choose between your wife and your daughter.â
