Chapter 427
Even After Death
Ethan wrapped his hands around her tightly when faced with her hatred.
âLiv, letâs get remarried, okay?â
âRemarried? Why would I marry you again? I canât even stand the sight of you.â
Olivia thought he was mad to make such a request.
âOr do you not want Marina now that sheâs crippled? You scum.â
Ethan frowned and said, âItâs not like that. My hands are tied regarding Marina. Sheâs actually â¦â
He didnât want to keep the secret from Olivia anymore. Their relationship was already strained as is.
He didnât want to lose her, so he tried to tell her the truth.
Before he could finish his sentence, a servantâs voice came from outside the room, âMr. Carlton
Senior is here, Mr. Miller.â
Ethan had no choice but to let Olivia go. âRest first, Olivia.â
Olivia gritted her teeth as she watched Ethan leave. She knew she had missed the chance to escape
with Jeff last time.
She wouldnât get another opportunity to do so too soon.
Jeff needed to stay. He required the professional care of a rehabilitation therapist, doctors, and
nutritionist.
He also needed regular checkups from the doctors. He couldnât leave with her.
Olivia sighed. No one in the world hated power. They just hated the fact that the power wasnât theirs.
Ethan met Otto in the living room.
Otto had just been discharged from the hospital, and he slimmed down significantly. He looked
pitiable.
âMr. Carlton Senior,â Ethan greeted.
Otto raised his head to see Ethan when he heard his voice. His eyes looked dull.
Gone was the usual shrewdness. Even his hair had gone completely white.
âEthan,â Otto called out in a hoarse voice.
âMr. Carlton Senior, you need to pull yourself together. Itâs all in the past now.
Tears welled up in Ottoâs eyes. âEasier said than done. The Carlton bloodline ends with me. How can I
possibly get over it?â
Ethan poured him a glass of warm water. He no longer tried to comfort Otto. Nothing he said would
make Otto feel better.
âWhat are you doing here so late at night, Mr. Carlton Senior?â
âEthan, I am very regretful now that my son is dead. But regret is useless.
âMarina and I are the only ones left in the Carlton family. She is still bedridden now.
âI can only count on you. Please marry Marina as soon as possible.â
The mention of marriage brought Ethan to a pause. He felt like he had been stabbed in the chest.
He just wanted to remarry Olivia and make it up to her and Jeff.
Otto raised his voice when he didnât get a response, âAre you unwilling to marry Marina now?
âAre you going to forsake her at a time like this? Are you going to just watch as my family falls apart?â
âThatâs not my intention. You know me, Mr. Carlton Senior. I respect you a lot.â
âIt had better not be your intention to leave her. If you abandon her while sheâs in this state, Marinaâs
life will be over.â
Ethan paused momentarily and replied, âA marriage is no small matter. We should decide on it after I
ask Marina about it.
If Marina hadnât held Kurtâs death against Ethan, he never would have wanted to marry her.
He hoped that the recent event would open Marinaâs eyes to reality and she wouldnât be obsessed with
him anymore.
âThatâs fine with me. Letâs decide on this today.â
Otto made a call to Marina. âMarina, Iâm with Ethan now. Tell him yourself if you still want to marry
him.
âIf you want to, Iâll make it happen no matter what I have to do.â
Marinaâs voice came from the other end of the phone. It was a little subdued. The arrogance she
always had in her tone was gone.
âEthan.â
âYeah, Iâm here. Are you feeling better?â
âI donât think Iâll ever feel better.â
Marina was depressed. She sobbed, âI have always known you didnât want to marry me. You donât
love me.
âBut Ethan, youâre all I have left⦠So, please donât abandon me. I want to be married to you.â
