Chapter 429
Even After Death
News of the wedding between Ethan and Marina spread like wildfire.
âHave you heard? Mr. Miller is marrying Marina Carlton this month. Itâs for real this time. I heard that the
hotel has already been booked.â
âWhat about Ms. Fordham? I thought he cared about her. He has been staying by her side all this time.
âDonât tell anyone, but Ms. Fordham is Mr. Millerâs ex-wife. I thought they were getting back together.
They divorced because of Ms. Carlton back then.
âI guess true love triumphs over an old flame. Mr. Miller is willing to marry Marina despite her grave
injuries. It has to be true love.â
âWhat would happen to Ms. Fordham after Mr. Miller marries Ms. Carlton? Wouldnât she be a
mistress then?â
The servants were chattering and noticed Olivia standing nearby. Their faces paled.
âM-Ms. Fordham.â
Oliviaâs expression was calm. She stared at them coldly and said, âGossip all you want, but do it where
no one can hear you.
âI wonât let you off easily if this reaches my fatherâs ears.â
Olivia was wearing a white dress. She walked past the servants with a book in her left hand.
âMs. Fordham was so intimidating. Her gaze struck fear into me.
One of the servants said, âShe wasnât like this before. She used to be very kind and treated us servants
well.
âMr. Miller hurt her deeply. Itâs why she became the way she is now.â
âThatâs so sad.â
Olivia walked through the long corridor. She wasnât surprised to hear that Ethan was marrying
Marina.
In the past, she would be curious as to why Ethan had to marry Marina. But she no longer cared about
what he did.
She just wanted the servants in the manor to keep the secret so they donât upset Jeff.
Jeff was basking in the flower room. He had a rug on his legs, and he looked at peace. Olivia had been
through too much. She treasured every second of the peace that she had.
She stayed by Jeff and read her book until he woke up.
âOlivia.â
Olivia closed her book and said, âDad, youâre awake.â
âYeah. I heard that Ethan has restructured the company. If youâre bored, you should run the company.
You donât have to stay with me all the time. I wonât recover so soon.â
Olivia gestured to her right arm with her lips. âDad, donât forget that Iâm also recovering.â
âCan you feel your hand yet?â
âNo.â
âEthan dropped the ball here. He shouldâve taken better care of you.
âYour hand is so important if you want to be a doctor. What would you do if it never recovers?â
Olivia smiled. âYouâll just have to take care of me forever if it doesnât get better.â
Jeff scratched the tip of her nose with his finger. Olivia acted like she used to when she was with Jeff.
âSilly child, I wouldnât be the one to do that. You had a miscarriage the last time.
âNow that Iâm fine, you should try for kids with Ethan again while youâre still young.â
Jeff didnât know what happened between Ethan and Olivia. His kind words were like knives plunging
into Oliviaâs chest.
Olivia had not let him use a smartphone since his traffic accident. He knew nothing about Marina and
Ethan.
âWhatâs wrong, Olivia? Did Ethan make you mad? Tell me, and Iâll take care of it for you.â
Olivia almost blurted out the truth, but she held it back.
âIâm fine, dad. You donât have to worry about me.â
âI watched you grow up. I know you very well. I noticed that youâve been acting strange since I woke
1.
âYou used to talk about Ethan all the time, but now you never bring him up. Even when heâs around,
you donât even look at him.
âOlivia, you donât have to bottle your emotions up. You still have me.â
