Chapter 437
Even After Death
Everly patted Olivia on the shoulder. âLiv, I know you too well. Itâs the same as back when I scrounged
for money to buy a house for that jerk.
âAlmost everyone has been through silly times when they thought love was the only thing to live for.
âLook, Iâm focusing on earning money now, and Iâm equally satisfied.â
The two recalled their youthful times, and they felt much better.
Licking her lips, Everly said, âLiv, Iâm kinda thirsty. Peel an apple for me, will you?â
She continued without missing a beat, âI still remember when I first got to know you. You didnât even
know how to peel an apple back then.
âWhen we visited our teacher, you peeled so much of the apple that only the core was left.
âWe even laughed at your knife skills. Then, for the sake of Ethan, you-â
Before Everly finished speaking, she saw Olivia suddenly extending her right hand. As Oliviaâs palm
lowered weakly, Everlyâs voice came to an abrupt stop.
âSorry, Eve. I canât peel the apple for you. Iâll go get the nurse.â
Everly grabbed Oliviaâs arm, her eyes reddening in an instant. âWho did this?â
âItâs a long storyâ¦â
âLetâs cut it short, then. Was it Ethan? Is he crazy? How could he injure your hand? Youâre going to be
a doctor, for goodnessâ sake!â
Everyone knew about Oliviaâs dream to be a doctor. But Ethan was the only one who didnât care about
1.
Olivia didnât want Everly to be sad, so she tried her best to put on a calm appearance.
âIt was a little complicated back then.â
The calmer Olivia was, the more Everlyâs heart ached.
Everly had always been a cheerful woman, but now, her tears dripped onto the back of Oliviaâs hand.
Her voice was shaking as she said, âHow could he do that? How could heâ¦â
To Everly, Olivia was like an idol. Olivia was good-looking, and she was also very talented.
She also had many other skills, like singing, dancing, playing the piano, and playing chess.
Back in high school, she often represented her school, participating in piano competitions.
She would wear a formal dress, her slender hands dancing on the piano keys as the light shone on top
of her.
Olivia was like a brilliant star. No one could take their gaze off of her.
She was a talented woman, favored by the heavens. Everly couldnât believe how Olivia could end up
like this.
It was like a shiny pearl dropped into the mud. Her body was no longer shining as mud tainted her.
At that sight, Everly was heartbroken. She couldnât stop sobbing, and she would rather be the one
getting hurt instead.
âDonât cry, Eve. It doesnât hurt anymore. I mean it.â
âHow can that not hurt?â
Everly carefully took Oliviaâs hand. âIn the past, even if you get a small cut on your finger, Mr. Fordham
would get so nervous. He would send you to the hospital right away.
âEven the doctor laughed and said that if you came any later, the cut wouldâve healed. But now, your
handâ¦â
In the past, whenever Olivia was with the Fordhams and Ethan, she was greatly pampered.
Olivia put on a self-mocking smile. âWeâll all grow up. Weâll have to endure sufferings weâve never
experienced before. Everything is fair in life.â
âStop smiling, Liv. It breaks my heart. Iâd rather you cry.
âThereâs no one else here, and I wonât laugh at you. Stop pushing yourself so hard.â
Olivia reached out her left hand, wiping the tears from Everlyâs face. âDonât cry. This expression doesnât
suit you at all.
âDidnât you tell me that as long as I donât die, Iâll have to live my life to the fullest?
âItâs just one hand. Also, the doctor told me that I wouldnât make it past six months, but it has been
more than six months since then. Weâll have hope as long as weâre still alive.â
Everly replied, âYes, weâll only have hope when weâre alive. Even if someone has to die, itâll be those
jerks!â
Olivia smiled. âThatâs more like it. I have good news and bad news for you. Which would you like to
hear first?â
