Chapter 604
Even After Death
On the screen, Mara was shown lying on the snowy ground. Her face was blurred out, so Olivia
couldnât make out her
expression.
Mara was still wearing that dress. Before this, she was causing a ruckus because some water had
gotten on it. But now, the dress was covered in snowflakes.
Mara was fine just moments ago. Olivia could hardly believe that she died without any warning.
Oliviaâs sleepiness was instantly gone. She tapped into the article and then read it in detail. She saw
that Kelvin was involved. She remembered that Ethan seemed to have given Kelvin some orders
before they left. Now, Mara was dead, and Kelvin had been caught at the scene.
Olivia had an anxious look on her face. Pushing the blanket away, she ran outside.
When she opened the door, she ran headfirst into a manâs chest.
Raising her head, her gaze met Ethanâs concerned eyes. âYouâre not wearing shoes again. Where are
you going this late at night?â
âEthan, I saw the news. Is Kelvin okay?â
âHe was there at the crime scene, so things have gotten a little tricky. Iâve already sent someone to look
for evidence.â
Oliviaâs fingers held his collar lightly. She said in a small voice, âUm⦠What did you tell him to do
before we left?â
When Oliviaâs gaze met Ethanâs, she looked away in embarrassment. Ethan lifted her chin, forcing her
to look him in the eye.
âTell me, Liv. What sort of person do you think I am?â
Olivia met his gaze. After thinking for a moment, she spoke up, âYouâre gentle and considerate. Youâre
very nice to me. Youâre a good man.â
Ethanâs thumb gently caressed her lips. Olivia felt a little uncomfortable with the odd sensation on her
lips.
His gaze was dark, and his tone was low as well. âYouâre wrong, Liv. Iâm nice to you only because I love
you. Everything I do is centered around this goal.
âOf course, Iâm not a bad man, but Iâm not a good man, either.â
Oliviaâs heart raced. âThen Mara-â
âIt wasnât me. I wonât kill her just for something so petty. I felt that there was something off about the
janitor. Thatâs why I
asked Kelvin to look into it.
âIn the end, Kelvin was too late. He happened to appear at the scene where the janitor murdered
Mara.â
Ethan did this to remind Olivia not to idealize him too much. In the future, if something related to Olivia
happened, he might do things even crueler than this.
Olivia sighed in relief. âDo you know that janitor?â
âHe looks very much like a murderer on the run. People like him are very skilled at disguises. Be
careful if you meet someone like him in the future,â
Olivia nodded. âAlright. By the way, thereâs one more thingâ¦â
Turning around, Olivia took out the name card she had placed in her bag. âThis was given to me by a
man named Troy Fordham.
âHe said that I saved his sister or something, but I donât remember anything anymore.â
Ethan took the card from her hands. Reaching up, he caressed her head. âItâs okay if you donât
remember. Heâs no one important anyway. You only did him a small favor.â
Ethan didnât want Olivia to get too involved in the matters of the past. He didnât want to stimulate her
too much in case her
memories came back.
They would be leaving Aldenvine in a few days anyway. He had already arranged a medical practice
course for Olivia that would last a few years. Olivia wouldnât be going back to the country anytime soon.
In the future, a brand new life awaited Olivia.
Before they left, he still had one thing to do.
He had to clear all the obstacles for Olivia.
This time, he would be the one taking the initiative.
After Ethan comforted her, Olivia finally went to bed.
But for some reason, as soon as she closed her eyes, Maraâs face appeared in her mind.
âCanât sleep?â
âYeah. I just feel that all this is so unbelievable.â
Ethan gently caressed her back. âSome people just have it coming. She messed with a professional
assassin, which means that someone had paid for her to die. This has nothing to do with you.
âBack then, the janitor kept telling you not to get involved with this matter. He must have set up a plan
to kill her early on, and he didnât want you to ruin it.â
Olivia muttered to herself, âWho could it be?â
âRemember, Liv, human hearts are the dirtiest things in the world. Theyâre also the things you should
trust the least.â
