Chapter 635
Even After Death
Shane felt a chill when he heard Ethanâs words. He looked at Ethan in disbelief.
âMr. Miller, wha-what did you sayâ¦â
Kelvin brought over a huge bucket carefully. He didnât hurt himself while doing so because he wore
specialized gloves in
advance.
âIâm a fair man. Iâll splash you with some sulfuric acid. If you can dodge it, good for you. But if you get
doused in acid, donât
blame me for it.â
Fear flashed in Shaneâs eyes. He had already been cut by Ethan. It would be bad if the acid touched
his wounds.
Shane knelt on the floor and begged for mercy, groveling with all his might.
âMr. Miller, I was wrong. I realize that now. Iâll die if you splash that acid on me.â
Ethan kicked him away and straightened up. He looked at Shane emotionlessly and said slowly, âSo
you do know that sulfuric
acid can be lethal.
âYet you splashed it at a woman without hesitation. You know how important a womanâs face is to her,
right? If itâs ruined,
how would she live even if the acid didnât kill her?â
Shane raised his hands and started to slap himself. âYes. I was a fool. I only cared about myself and
didnât spare others so much as a thought. Itâs all my fault. I â¦â
âThen you should bear the punishment for your mistake.â
Ethan looked at Kelvin and said, âDo it.â
Ethan had already looked into Shaneâs background. Heâs a compulsive gambler who was down on his
luck. He was also Maraâs fan.
After the incident with Olivia and Mara happened, Shane criticized Olivia online. Someone contacted
him and gave him some money to splash sulfuric acid on Olivia.
Shane had been driven to his witsâ end by his debt collectors. He thought it was a good thing to be able
to avenge his idol and get paid at the same time.
He agreed to do it without hesitation. But he didnât expect to land himself into so much trouble.
Ethan walked out of the room and closed the door behind him. After a while, blood-curdling screams
could be heard coming from the room.
Ethan was wiping the blood stains from his knife with a towel as Brent stood behind him and reported.
âWeâve looked at everything. They dealt in cash, and the person was very careful. They made the
transaction in a palace where there werenât any surveillance cameras.
âAccording to Shane, the person is a man. He covered himself up thoroughly and didnât reveal any
defining features.
âHis height and build resembles mine, and he didnât sound like he was from Aldenvine.â
âIs that all you got?â
âYes. Even his voice had been altered. He was careful not to leave any clues. All we can guess is that
the person who wants Mrs. Miller dead is not in the country, but he is a man of means.â
Ethan toyed with his knife and said with a cold expression, âWhat a pity. I thought we would be able to
root him out with how the situation had escalated.
âDonât let your guard down. Ask around on the street where the transaction happened. There might be
other witnesses.â âDonât worry, Mr. Miller, I have people on that.â
âBe sure to keep our trip abroad under wraps. Donât raise anyoneâs suspicions.â
âUnderstood.â
Ethan patted Brent on the shoulder and said, âYouâve been through a lot this time round.â
âYouâre too kind, Mr. Miller. They didnât have any evidence, and they couldnât beat the information out of
us. We only had to
record a statement.
âBut Xavier Harper seems to blame you for what happened to his sister. He might be trouble. Do I need
to come up with a reason to get him transferred?â
âThereâs no need. I wonât be staying for long, and we donât really cross paths often. Be sure to tie up
loose ends.â
âUnderstood.â
Ethan walked into the darkness. They still didnât know who was plotting against them.
Who was trying to harm Olivia?
