Chapter 783
Even After Death
Olivia wondered why she would relate an honest man like Logan to Ethan.
âDo you like cats?â
âYeah. I had a pet cat back in my hometown when I was young. But we never fed it anything special,
just leftovers.â
Olivia had been putting on a stiff expression on most days, but she finally smiled at that moment.
âIf you like it, you should play with it more often. Kittens have a lot of energy, and I am sick. So I canât
play with Snowball too much.â
Oliviaâs legs were still in bad condition. She still couldnât crouch. If she moved too much, she would
start to feel dizzy.
It was a good thing Snowball was very well-behaved near her. It would lay quietly on her things and
keep her company.
Logan scratched his head. âIf you donât mind, Ms. Fordham. I can take care of Snowball.â
âThanks for putting up with my requests.â
âItâs no trouble at all. Are you going to be sitting here for some more time?â Logan looked at her.
âYeah.â
âOne moment.â
Logan went to the living room, took a blanket, and draped it around her.
I heard Mr. Rogers say you were very sick. Although it doesnât snow here during winter, it is still pretty
cold.
âYou have to be careful not to catch a cold.â
Olivia was stunned as she looked at the blanket. She didnât know what to feel.
She raised her head to see Logan standing in place anxiously.
"- Ms. Fordham, did I do something wrong?â
Olivia shook her head. âNo. I was just thinking about something.â
It was rare that they got a chance to hold a conversation.
Logan mustered up the courage to ask, âWhat were you thinking about, Ms. Fordham.â
âI was just thinking about how you showed concern for me even though we barely know each other.
*Meanwhile, the people that were close to me only hurt me repeatedly. Why is it so?â
Logan sat down some distance from Olivia.
While playing with Snowball, he said, âI had a female cat at home when I was a child. I watched its
stomach grow, and I looked forward to the birth of her kittens.
âWhen that happened, I didnât sleep for the entire night. I feared the kittens would be in danger because
they were left outside.
âSo I took them into a little nest I made for them when their mother wasnât looking.
âThe funny thing is we were living in poverty in that village. Most people in the village donât even have
enough food or clothes.
âThe winter winds were freezing. So, I used my own sweater to make the nest for the kittens. I also
prepared clean water and food for them. Guess what happened?â
âWhat happened?â
âMy kindness doomed the kittens. The new nest caused them to carry different scents. The mother was
very sensitive and suspicious after birth.
âShe thought she was placed in a dangerous environment, so she killed all the kittens.â
Snowball finally grabbed the cat teaser. Then, Logan looked at Olivia.
âSo, do you think I didnât love the kittens enough, Ms. Fordham?â
Olivia didnât have a response to that.
He added, âItâs not that I didnât love them-quite the contrary. I loved them too much. I did everything in.
my power to give them the best life.
âBut my actions caused them to be killed. I was devastated when they died. I think the person youâre
talking about might be the same as me. He loved you too much and ended up hurting you.â
Olivia was at a loss for words.
Logan saw that the atmosphere got tense.
He quickly apologized, âIâm sorry, Ms. Fordham. I overstepped. I shouldnât have brought up the past like
âItâs okay. I couldnât sleep and was bored anyway. I donât mind chatting with you. You mustâve been to
many places, right?â
âYes. Even though I donât have much money, Iâve been to many places. What do you want to hear
about, Ms. Fordham?â
âAnything is fine. I donât mind listening to stories about interesting people or events.â
