Chapter 958
Even After Death
It was like Jack knew what she was about to ask.
âAsk away.â
âWeâve only known each other for a short time. I know you helped me investigate someone because of
Martha and the others, but what about the things you helped me with afterward?
âYou helped me out behind the scenes and raised my children for me. Even when I asked you to help
me escape, you helped out to the best of your abilities without any complaints.
âWeâre not family, but you risked your life to do all these things for me. There has to be a reason why
youâre doing all this, right?
A dagger appeared in Jackâs hand out of nowhere. This was the first time Olivia had seen his weapon.
It looked like it was extremely sharp.
At that moment, Jack seemed mysterious with a hint of viciousness.
âWhy donât you guess why Iâm doing this?â
Jackâs voice was low and sounded especially eerie in the dark. It sent a chill down Oliviaâs spine.
âI donât know. All I know is that no one does anything for no reason. I know that thereâs a price on
everything. So, Jack, what do you want?â
After meeting up with him again, Olivia suggested paying him some money as payment for taking care
of her children for two years. But Jack didnât accept it.
âPeople like me live each day like itâs our last. Iâve grown numb to the evils of the world and the deaths
of people close to me.
âMartha saved my life back then, and Iâve been living on the island since. Then, you showed up, and
the development of the island started.
âI planned to leave the island and return to walking my own path. Then, I saw a bounty for your life
when I was in the organization. Thatâs why I helped out.
âSaving your children was just a coincidence. But now, Iâm wanted by my organization, and Iâm past the
point of no return.â
Jack turned toward her and said calmly, âAs for why I saved you, itâs probably because I saw the
meaning. of life in you. You probably find this reason laughable.â
Olivia could sense that Jack had been through a lot.
âDonât you have any family?â
âFamily? Nothing of the sort.â
As expected, the sense of loneliness emanating from him wasnât a coincidence.
âMy only family has passed away. I donât have any family now.â
Olivia could feel the weight of his loneliness when he said that.
âJack, if you donât mind, my children and I can be your family. I think If I had a brother, heâd be like you.
âAlthough weâre not blood-related, youâve been taking good care of me. Youâre just like a brother to me.
The kids love you too. You wonât be alone anymore.â
âBrotherâ¦â Jack lowered his head and murmured.
The word seemed so unfamiliar but also familiar at the same time.
âWhatâs wrong? Did you have a brother?â Olivia asked.
Jack leaned back and supported himself with his hands.
âYeah, but heâs dead.â
âWhat about the rest of your family?â
Jack sneered. âTheyâre better off dead.
âFrom now on, Zack and Alicia will be your family.â
Olivia sighed and added, âMy foster parents are both dead. I donât even know who my actual parents
are. Iâm the same as you. Weâre both without family.â
Jack muttered, âFamilyâ¦â
âWhatâs wrong? I⦠Olivia started to gag.
Jack looked at her worriedly as he handed her a bottle of water.
âWhat will you be doing about the baby? Are you keeping it? Weâll be setting off tomorrow. Weâre
expected to arrive in the next city in three days. Itâs about time to make a decision.â
