chapter 28
Change of Heart
Third Person POV:
Isaac was by his locker, organising his stuff so that he could go to lunch, when he felt a tap on his back, alerting him to turn around and see...
Zavier.
"Oh, it's you. I'll bring in your hoodie tomorrow, sorry, I just keep forgetting." Isaac assumed the reason he was there, whizzing back around to shut his locker, then facing Zavier again.
"It's not that." Zavier replied, confusing Isaac. "It's that soccer lunch thing."
"You're joking." Isaac pinched his lips together, focussing on the floor to think of ways to get out of it. "Why?"
"It's tradition Isaac, you know that. We won the tournament so we sit one day as a group, showing our true connection to each other, before we all go our separate ways, barely saying hi to each other in the hallway." Zavier had a cheeky grin, as Isaac started to smile.
"Yeah shit, I forgot about that. Why today though?"
Zavier raised a brow; Isaac really hadn't been listening at practice, "And you call yourself a captain?"
Isaac scratched the side of his head, shrugging and waiting for Zavier to explain.
"The whole team had to be here, and some people were off ill or other things but everyone's here today, so let's go." Zavier led the way whilst Isaac muttered under his breath, mostly about the cheerleaders who would be sitting there too, craving attention.
And just like his prediction, he was right.
He didn't head over to the soccer table first though, he went to find Jax and Gemma, just to pre warn them.
"If it isn't the guy." Jax smiled, watching Isaac come up to them.
"Yeah, turns out it's that stupid soccer table thing today, so I've got to sit there." Isaac explained, glancing over to see Zavier already looking at him.
"That looks like shit." Gemma truthfully remarked, Isaac nodding in agreement before he walked over to the table.
The only empty place was opposite Zavier, and as soon as he sat down, he felt a cheerleader latch herself onto him, trying to whisper seductively, but sounding more like a dying horse.
Whilst Isaac attempted to have a conversation with the two girls beside him, Zavier watched Isaac's interaction with them, ignoring Dillon's voice, and tapping his foot against the ground.
"Are you even listening to me?" Dillon finally caught Zavier's attention, who gave Dillon a blank stare.
"Yeah, I was listening."
"Have fun then." Dillon wiggled his eyebrows at him suggestively, but Zavier gave him a disorientated stare back.
He was about to ask him to explain, when he felt slow kisses on his neck.
Fucking Bella.
She wrapped her arms around his stomach, but Zavier wasn't in the mood, pushing her off of him. "Stop Bella."
He didn't want Bella doing that, he'd rather have Isaa-
Before he could finish that thought, Bella's voice thankfully cut through it, "Why are you being such a dick?" She slid into Dillon's original spot, since Dillon had kindly thrown him into the lion pit alone.
"I'm not in the mood. That's it."
"I could get you in the mood." She placed her hand on his thigh, taking her time to move her hand up, but he didn't like it.
He gently took her hand and moved it to her own thigh, "I said no Bella."
"God, you're such a fucking mood kill." She huffed, pouting to make herself appear cute, but Zavier felt nothing.
What Zavier didn't realise was that Harrison had been watching his stare on Isaac, so when Zavier stood up and walked out of the cafeteria, fed up of seeing Isaac flirt with those girls, Harrison followed after him.
"Hey, Zavier, what's your problem?" Harrison shouted, causing Zavier to stop, and turn around.
"There is no problem, what do you mean?" Zavier defensively folded his arms, watching Harrison walk closer.
"Why were you looking at Isaac then?" Harrison's voice went quieter, but the words came out clear.
Shit.
"I wasn't." He immediately denied, turning around to walk away from the conversation, but Harrison pulled him back.
"Yes you were. I don't know who you think you're fooling, but stay away from Isaac. Seriously."
"I'm so scared." Zavier pretended to shiver, chuckling a bit, then strolled off, ending the conversation short.
"What a creep." Harrison muttered, before turning back around to see Isaac by the doors of the cafeteria.
Isaac's eyes went behind Harrison, watching Zavier leave before meeting Harrison's eyes again. "What were you saying to Zavier?"
"Nothing." Harrison quickly replied.
Isaac looked at him with a disbelieving look, "Then where's he gone?"
"Why do you care?" Harrison retorted back snarkily.
"I don't." He equally as quick responded.
"Where are you going?"
"To get some air." Isaac shouted over his shoulder, walking away in the same direction as Zavier. Harrison watched him until he turned the corner, and sighed, before heading back into the cafeteria.
Isaac truly had been going to get some air, but when he saw Zavier hunched up in a secluded corner, he changed his destination to meet him instead.
That's what 'friends' did, right?
Isaac sat next to him, taking in the silence for a bit. "It's much quieter here." Isaac spoke up, getting a small smile from Zavier.
"I hadn't noticed."
Isaac playfully bumped his shoulder with Zavier's and kept his gaze on the floor, missing the admiring look Zavier gave him.
Zavier then glanced up to see what appeared like Miss Page coming out of her car, and immediately tapped Isaac's shoulder, making him look up. "It's your favourite teacher." He pointed, watching Isaac's eyes widen suddenly.
"Shit. Shit." Isaac scrambled to get up, pulling Zavier up with him. His eyes swiped from left to right, quickly scanning for a place to hide, and deciding on going behind the wall, dragging Zavier with him.
He pushed Zavier behind him, and slowly peeked his head out to make sure she was going inside the school, but on seeing her head seem like it was going to turn, he quickly pulled back his own head, forgetting Zavier was there as well, and collided the back of his head with Zavier's face.
Zavier brought his hand to his face, groaning as the pain began to kick in. However, Isaac was still more concentrated on Miss Page, so turned to Zavier and shushed him.
Zavier gasped; it felt like his lips were going swollen.
"That fucking hurt." Zavier winced as Isaac finally turned around, inspecting Zavier's face. "You made me dig my teeth into my lips."
"Your lips are fine Zavier. Don't be dramatic."
"You didn't even look."
Isaac grabbed Zavier's chin roughly, jerking him forward, and placed his thumb on Zavier's lips. "Can you feel this?"
Heat instantly rushed through Zavier's face as any comebacks he had been thinking of saying vanished from his mind, whilst Isaac in his impatience didn't take notice of Zavier's strange reaction and waited for an answer.
Zavier nodded rapidly- he was definitely feeling this.
"Great, you're fine then. Let's go."
Zavier let Isaac walk in front, feeling his cheeks to truly confirm that he, Zavier Reid, was blushing because of a single action Isaac Jones had done.
He had to be ill.
"You're slow." Isaac spoke from in front, panicking Zavier to think that somehow, Isaac had been able to hear his thoughts or even worse, his pounding heart.
"Huh?"
Isaac stopped, waiting for Zavier to catch up to his pace, "What's wrong with you now? Is it still the lip because if it actually is, maybe you should get that checked up. I didn't think I hit you that hard..."
"I'm fine. Shut up." Now Zavier kept walking, leaving Isaac behind. "Last one to the cafeteria's a pussy."
Isaac raised his eyebrows at Zavier's childish behaviour, shaking his head. "We're not 12 Zavier."
"You're only saying that because I'm ahead angel." Zavier turned to face Isaac, a devilish smile on his face.
"Don't fucking call me angel." Isaac scowled speeding up his pace to meet Zavier, but Zavier caught on and sped up. "Stop running." Isaac complained, but Zavier didn't listen, and on turning the corner, he tripped up a freshman, barely sparing a glance at them, and not having time to stop, only muttering a small oops.
Isaac lost Zavier from his view, and when he walked around the corner, instead of Zavier, he found what seemed like a freshman on the floor, with all her stuff sprawled out on the ground.
Isaac's eyes scanned around for Zavier, but he had apparently been the first to get into the cafeteria, so Isaac was now stuck with this ethic dilemma.
Help or not?
He tried to go to the side, when the freshman locked eyes with him, a look of recognition in her eyes. "You're Isaac right?"
Isaac slowly nodded whilst assessing her to see if he recognised her. Her shining hazel eyes stared back into his, and her hair was tied into two afro puffs. Looking at her outift, the t-shirt she wore seemed a bit oversized, and by her fidgeting of the arms, not very comfortable either but in summary, he didn't recognise her.
The unnamed girl pulled the t-shirt away from her chest and cringed, "This isn't mine if you were wondering. I had gym class today and my friend and I slipped in the mud, kind of on purpose so we could skip gym but we didn't think about the changing clothes part."
Isaac glanced behind him, was she talking to him or? But when there were only small clusters of people by the lockers, not showing any interest in this conversation, he turned back around and slowly nodded again, "Okay..."
"Oh my god. You probs think that I'm such a weirdo. I'm Gabriella, Zavier's sister's best friend." She smiled widely, showing her braces.
"Okay. That's cool." But not relevant to him at all.
Isaac stepped around her, his mind was made up that his morals would be pushed aside for this moment.
"Do you think Zavier meant to bump into me? I think he did it on purpose."
Isaac turned back around to see her standing there, her books still on the ground, with a dreamy look in her eyes as she clasped her hands together.
"Probably not." Isaac muttered quietly, but Gabriella carried on. "He's just so hot, god I wish the boys in my grade looked like him. I've heard that having sex with him is so good that you can be diagnosed with withdrawal symptoms from him."
Isaac scrunched his nose up in disgust; that was not something he wanted to hear.
He was still a bit unsure with who she really was, but in some weird way, he was beginning to recognise her. "Have we talked to each other before or...?"
She nodded eagerly, tilting her head a bit to the side afterwards, but didn't say anything.
"Yeah... you know what, I'm just gonna go." Isaac turned around and carried on walking, feeling her eyes on him, and was almost at the cafeteria when Zavier popped out.
Relief spread over his face seeing Isaac, until he looked straight past him and saw Gabriella, fear rushing through his eyes.
"ZAVY!" Gabriella fully abandoned her books, and ran towards Zavier with her arms wide open, who recognised what was happening so at the last second, he dragged Isaac by his hood so that he was in front of him, meaning Isaac was engulfed by a sickly sweet bubblegum smell, feeling petite hands grip onto his jumper.
"Um-" Isaac unwrapped Gabriella's arms from around him and stood back, not only feeling dizzy from the smell, but violated by a 14 year old hugging him.
"I told you to call me Zavier, Gabriella, and that when we're in school, we don't acknowledge each other." Zavier frowned, staying behind Isaac for protection.
"Well I told you to call me Brie yet you don't." She shot back, raising an eyebrow at him.
Isaac watched them give each other challenging stares, feeling very uncomfortable and was about to leave when Zavier spoke up again. "Why are you even talking to Isaac?"
"Because he's the nice one out of you two."
Zavier rolled his eyes in disbelief at that,"Yeah right."
"It's true. You're so hot, but moody with me, and Isaac's fit and sweet to me." Isaac's eyes looked to the side, wondering why she talked as if they had frequent conversations, and who was she, basically a middle schooler, to talk on his looks?
Before Zavier could disagree or say something else, Isaac butted in. "I'm still here guys."
"Well Gabriella was just leaving, weren't you?"
Gabriella looked like she wanted to say something else, but instead took a deep breath and nodded and ran over to get her books, not noticing the pen that had fallen out of one of the books, causing her to slip on the pen and fall.
"Fuck." Isaac caught sight of her first, and half jogged over to her. He was sure it wouldn't be anything too serious, but it seemed painful and embarrassing to say the least.
"I'm fine, I'm fine." She lifted her head up with what seemed like a lot of effort.
"Are you sure?" Isaac asked as Zavier kneeled by his side with him.
Gabriella took one look at how close Zavier was to her and felt her eyes flutter shut, the shock taking over her consciousness.
"Did she just... fuck, what happened?" Isaac shook her gently but she made no reaction.
A smirk reappeared on Zavier's face, "She took one look at my face and fainted."
"That still has negative connotations you know." Isaac couldn't help but mention. "Maybe we should take her to the nurse in case."
"She always faints. Fran said she's amenic or something like that, I don't listen that well." Zavier even had the nerve to yawn, glancing around the place.
Isaac still glanced at her worriedly, before looking back at Zavier. "What if she hurt herself though?"
"If you care that much Isaac, why don't you just suck her tits as well while you're at it?" Zavier stood up, folding his arms.
Isaac followed Zavier's style and stood up too. "That is fucking disgusting. I'm just a considerate person."
"No, you're a guy who doesn't get enough pussy so looks for a 14 ye-"
"Okay, okay. Whatever, I'm not going to argue with you right now." He looked down at her again. "I guess she'll get up soon."
"Exactly... look, she's moving again." Zavier truthfully pointed out, seeing her fingers start to twitch. "We should go before she wakes up fully."
Isaac replied by nodding, feeling a bit of reassurance that she was at least a bit okay.
"You really attract all the right girls, huh?" Isaac joked as they walked back towards the cafeteria.
Zavier smiled, "Seems like I'm going to have to take a break from girls then."
"Finally. The player steps down from his position." Isaac jokingly clapped for him and pretended to bow down.
But Zavier only had a knowing look on his face before he spoke his next words, "When did I say I'd stop being a player?"
"You said- oh shit..." Isaac stopped, but Zavier carried on walking ahead. "Wait, Zavier. Did you mean that?" But Zavier still didn't answer. "Zavier fucking Reid I know you can hear me."
"Oh fuck." Isaac muttered to himself as they entered into the cafeteria.
He would have to confront him later.
But later was better than never.
