Chapter 28
The Mermaid Queen [GxG]
Victoria's POV
When I saw her running towards me on the battlefield, my heart stopped.
When my heart truly stopped was when Adalee protected me from her sister.
A sharp blade is impaled in her stomach, Alyssa retracting it quickly. "Oh no. What have I done?" She asks, in despair.
I focus on Adalee, needing to keep her awake. "Stay with me, my love. You'll be okay."
Her eyes close as all battles stop, them all staring at the innocent girl they are fighting for, bleeding out.
"What did I do? Why did she do that?" Alyssa asks, spiralling.
"She didn't want you to kill me, we are soulmates," I say bluntly, before picking Adalee up bridal style bringing her to the nearby ocean.
"What are you doing?" Alyssa falls into step with me, us putting aside our differences to save Adalee.
"I'm going to save her, no thanks to you," I say coldly, blaming her for all our problems. We were happy until she came along and stabbed the love of my life.
"She needs a doctor," Alyssa argues, trying to convince me what to do with my mate.
Ignoring her, I lay Adalee down in the shallow waves, the water rushing over her body gently. It caresses her, taking such care in the way it crashes. Her head lays in my lap, her looking to be just sleeping, but I know better. I focus on the magic running through my veins, my connection with the water.
Putting all my energy and love into directing the healing power towards Adalee's wound, I take deep breaths. It's still completely silent, everyone holding their breath, wondering if she will live.
I know she will. She can't die.
With each wave, the water enters her wound, me healing it the best I can. The magic takes a lot out of me, but any day, I would sacrifice myself for her. She is the best thing that has happened to me.
I feel my energy drain as my magic heals her, her injury closing at an abnormally fast pace.
Grateful that I did it, I look back at Alyssa's astonished face, before saying, "You better not hurt her ever again."
That is the last thing I'm able to say before I pass out, falling beside my unconscious mate, hoping she wakes up soon.
We both wake up at the same time in our bed, on our back, beside one another. I check Adalee over for any injuries, and come to the conclusion that she is fine.
She looks me over to, before kissing me deeply, showing me her gratitude. A voice speaks up from the corner of the room, "Ew. I'd rather not see my sister making out with someone."
Pulling away from Adalee slowly, I give her a soft smile before glaring at Alyssa.
"I'm still mad at you. You almost killed my mate," I say, my voice full of anger.
Adalee puts a hand on my shoulder, calming me down. "She thought she was protecting me. It was my fault for not writing a note to let her know I wasn't taken against my will."
"I thought you were stolen, Adalee, and I wanted to keep you out of danger. I wanted to be the one to save you, not almost kill you." Alyssa sits down on our bed as I continue to glare at her.
Adalee smiles at her sister. "Let's all agree that this was a huge misunderstanding and leave it at that. I don't want you guys hating each other because of me."
Reluctantly, I mutter, "Fine."
As long as I have Adalee, I'll be okay.
