: Chapter 67
The Perfect Fit
âHave a good day, princess.â West gives me a soft kiss on the lips. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I cling to him like I might never get the chance to touch him again.
âHey. Weâll be okay,â he says, eyes narrowed as they hold mine. I guess he can feel the anxiety in me, just like Xander and Zeke did when I left the penthouse half an hour ago. When I kissed them like it might be the final time. âAnd we have fun plans for later.â
I raise an eyebrow, needing to maintain some semblance of normalcy and pretend that the world as we know it isnât about to change forever. âDo they involve me being naked?â
The corners of his mouth turn up. âAlways, princess.â
I run my fingers through his thick dark hair. âMy favorite kind of plans.â
âYouâre going to be late if you keep looking at me like that, Lily.â
I roll my eyes and sigh. âYouâre right.â Before I climb out of the car, I kiss him one more time and try not to think about the email that will land in his inbox in a few hours. The same one Xander and Zeke will receive.
The car doesnât pull away from the curb until Iâm safely inside the building, and I stand in the lobby, watching it disappear. I roll back my shoulders, refusing to let fear and anxiety take hold. This is the way it has to be.
I spin around to head to the elevator, but two men in dark suits bar my path. They arenât familiar to me, but it seems that Carmine didnât want to waste time sending his best once he learned of my whereabouts.
âLiliana,â the shorter of the two says, sneering.
âNo.â I try to push past them, but they block me.
The second one opens his jacket to reveal a pistol. âWe can do this the easy way or the hard way, Liliana. Up to you. But whatever happens, you will be leaving here with us.â
My heart kicks into a gallop. âIs that so?â
The shorter one licks his lips. âHeâll pay us double if we bring you to him alive, but Iâd be prepared to take a pay cut to snap your pretty little neck.â
The lobby is already full of people coming to work for the day, and I hope nobody will try to intervene. I need to make sure I donât draw too much attention while going along with their charade by pretending to be the terrified little girl theyâve been told about. âAnd you expect me to just come with you? One scream and security will be over here in a heartbeat. You pull that gun out and the cops will be here too. Iâm really not sure youâve thought this plan of yours through.â
The taller one scowls, but the other one merely laughs. âThatâs why we have ourselves a little insurance policy.â He pulls his cell phone from his pocket and dials a number.
My stomach rolls violently as we wait for the call to be answered. I know what kind of insurance policy tactics men like Carmine employ. It canât be West because he just left here. Xander and Zeke are safe at home. Arenât they? Please God, let them be safe.
âAh, Sergei,â the goon says, grinning. âShow Liliana what will happen if she doesnât come home to Vegas to see her Papa.â
He turns the screen and shows me two men tied to chairs, blood streaming down their faces. One has his head held back and a knife at his throat as he struggles against his bindings. âNico?â I gasp, my hand flying to my mouth. Another face fills the screen, obscuring my view of my brother and his best friend. Itâs one of my fatherâs men, and this one I recognize. Heâs been my fatherâs most trusted soldier for as long as I can remember. âLet them go, Stefano. Please. Theyâve done nothing wrong.â
Stefanoâs eyes crinkle with amusement. âCome home and theyâll be safe.â
I swallow hard. I always knew this would have to happen one day, didnât I? And I meant what I said to Ludovica this morning. Itâs time to let the world know who Liliana Constantine really is.
