chapter 1- Mother-in-law meets the daughter-in-law

Lara's P.O.V:

Ash and her younger brother Jonah followed us hand in hand as we made our way to the ticket window as I carried my sister Cara in my arms. When we got close to the counter, we discovered a lengthy line in front of us. After waiting in line for almost 10 minutes, we eventually reached the ticket window and obtained our tickets.

We had a free day, so Ash and I decided on taking our little siblings to the theme park.

"Ash, let's go over there and sit down" I replied, pointing to the white bench that was positioned beneath a huge tree next to the fence of the huge garden.

We all took a seat on the bench and discussed which ride we should board first.

"Mommy, let's go over there and play with Snow White and the dwarfs." Cara pointed enthusiastically in the direction of the folks wearing the character costumes. She drew me in their direction while holding my finger.

"Slow down, sweetie or you might fall," I said trying to slow down her pace. We reached there and Cara started playing with them. The one wearing the Snow White's costume picked her up in her arms and started tickling her. Cara was enjoying and having fun. Soon after, Ash and Jonah joined us as well.

"So, Jonah, what do you wanna play?" Ash asked looking down at her brother.

"I wanna ride on the Ferris Wheel," Jonah said pointing his finger at the Ferris wheel which was a few meters away from us. Our jaws dropped listening to his reply. I must say he is a strong kid.

"There's no way that I am letting you ride it. It's for adults. And you are too young to ride on it. Do you get me?" Ash explained in a high pitched tone to Jonah. Poor little thing! Ash always gets Jonah to stop making unreasonable demands by using this tone. But, I think she needs to be a little gentler with him.

"Ash, you do this every time. Just look at his puppy face... and Jonah, don't be sad. Your sister is right. You are too young to ride on that giant wheel. But you are not that young for the horse ride." I said, picking him up in my arms and walking towards the horse ride. His eyes beamed with happiness.

He jumped on the back of the plastic horse, excitedly.

The horse ride started moving. And eventually, its speed increased. I could see Jonah was really having fun. Ash came carrying Cara in her arms and stood beside me.

" Cara, look! Your prince is coming to get you." Jonah said looking towards Cara when his horse ride came to a halt in front of us.

"Mommy, Ashley, look my prince has come." Cara said, excitedly.

Ash and I burst into laughter. Now that's really cute.

"Lary, I guess you need to start planning for your sister's and my brother's wedding...look! They make such a cute pair." Ash said putting Cara behind Jonah on the back of the horse. Cara held his waist tightly.

"They really do make a cute pair. But I am in no rush to get my little sister married anytime soon." I said, giggling.

I took out my phone from my pocket and clicked their photos. We also took some selfies. And Ash's expressions were no less than a joker. And her pouts can bring any fish to shame.

"Aww! They are so cute. Just like their mothers." someone said from behind us. We both turned around.

There stood an old lady probably in her early 50s. She was wearing a navy blue overcoat and white leggings. Even in casual attire, she looked elegant and classy.

She walked towards us holding the hand of a little boy maybe around 6 followed by the two bodybuilders looking, men. Both in black suits, had a bluetooth receiver in their ears.

She came closer to us and stopped. She really looked awed.

"Ladies, you both have really cute and adorable kids. But, you two look too young to have kids. I must say, you've maintained your figures really well." The old lady said to us. Ash chuckled hearing that.

It's not a new thing. Many people have misunderstood me and Cara as mother and daughter because she calls me mommy. She has called me mommy since the time she started speaking.

"Actually ma'am, they are not our kids. She is my little sister and he is her little brother." I explained to the old lady pointing towards Cara and Jonah who were enjoying their ride on the horse.

She sighed hearing that.

Why?

"Oh! I thought that..." she drifted off in her thoughts.

"Anyways, nice to see how you guys are taking care of your siblings." she continued.

"Hello, I am Brenda Adams. Nice to meet you both. And here this young lad is my grandson, Josh." She said, shaking hands with us and introducing her grandson.

He looked similar to Jonah. The only difference was that Josh was older than Jonah and seemed more fun-loving than him.

"Nice to meet you too, Mrs Adams and hey there, Mr. Little Adams!" I said lowering down to shake hands with the little boy.

"Nice to meet you, Mrs Adams," Ash said shaking Mrs Adams' hand.

"Nice meeting you too. And he is the son of my elder daughter, Cameron. He is Josh Parker." Mrs Adams corrected us with a warm smile.

"Oh!" we both said together.

"Grandma, I too want to ride the horse with them. Please!" Josh said pointing towards Cara and Jonah.

"Of course, my little one! ...Paul, could you please help him ride on the horse's back? And make sure his ride is safe." Mrs Adams told to one of her bodyguards, politely.

Meanwhile, we all headed towards the nearest bench and sat. The other bodybuilder stood beside Mrs Adams.

And my dear Ash couldn't stop herself ogling at him. Typical Ashley!

"What about your parents? Aren't they here with you guys?" Mrs Adams asked with a smile.

It felt a little odd to talk about our personal lives with someone we've just met. But, she seemed to be quite a genuine person to me.

"My parents are out of town so I am here babysitting my annoying brother. "Ash said with a slight chuckle.

"And what about yours, Miss?" She asked.

I hesitated for a bit but then decided to speak.

"It's Lara Jones, Mrs Adams. Actually, my parents aren't with us anymore. They passed away in a car accident few years ago."I said with a sad voice.

My eyes got moistened talking about my parents' death.

"I am sorry to hear that. Well, I can see that you are a really responsible and a strong girl." Mrs Adams said holding my hand in hers and rubbing it gently.

I smiled looking at her.

"Ma'am, I just received a call from sir. He wants you home right away. He has got something important to discuss with you. Shall we?" her bodyguard informed to Mrs Adams.

"Okay, Landon. Thanks! Go and inform Paul and Josh as well. I am coming." Mrs Adams told Landon.

"Sure, ma'am!" he said nodding his head. He then marched towards the horse ride. Ash was still drooling over him and was about to follow him when I held her hands tightly and gave her a warning look. She gave me a puppy look.

"Okay then! See you, pretty ladies, around. It was a pleasure meeting you both." Mrs Adams said whilst standing up.

"Same here, Mrs Adams," I said extending my hand for a handshake. To my surprise, she pulled me into a light hug. It was a warm hug.

"You are really a perfect girl for my...I mean...I would really love to see you around." She whispered into my ears. I gave her a confused look yet managed to smile back.

What  did she mean?

She said goodbye and walked towards the ride.

"Isn't she really a kind woman, Lary? She's really a sweetheart and she's so elegant, must be a wealthy businesswoman. What do you think, Lary?" Ash asked without averting her eyes from Mrs Adams.

"Yup! It seems so. I really liked her." I said. honestly.

We walked towards the ride. Cara and Jonah really enjoyed the ride. Cara was already asleep leaning on Jonah's back. Whereas her little prince was trying his best not to let his princess fall.

It was an amazing sight to watch.

"Come on, Sleeping Beauty! Time to go back to your castle." I said, gently picking up Cara into my arms.

"She is so pretty when she is asleep!" Jonah exclaimed.

"...my brother is a total flirt. He has taken on me." Ash said, proudly. I rolled my eyes.

"By the way Lary, did you see the two men in black? They looked so hot." Ash said, dreamily.

"Men in black?" I asked confused.

"I am talking about Mrs Adams' bodyguards, Paul and Landon. Weren't they hot?"

"Yeah, maybe. I don't know." I said, uninterested.

"You're so boring, Lary. There's no spice in your life. You need to enjoy your life and be happy." Ash said in a complaining tone.

"Enjoying my life? I surely am! Trust me, Ash, I am enjoying my life more than anyone and for happiness, I have you guys in it and talking about spice, I don't like spices. Now let's go." I said walking towards the exit gate. Ash rolled her eyes and followed me along with Jonah.
